Good Wednesday morning,
Lots going on in the news, but the weather will be as predicted in the past week.
Today is the last day of the month and Thursday brings us the full Harvest moon. This will be able to be seen by all since there will be no fog Thursday morning.
Rise early and check it out. This is what it looked like this morning at 4:30am.

Also I have good news, Santa Barbara county has moved into the Red tier.
This means indoor activities can open again, like churches, movies, Restraunt’s indoors, Etc.
Amen for that.
Tonight is the first lakers final at 6pm. It will make fun watching.
As far as our weather goes, we are looking at hot and sunny as we have talked about for the past week. Upper 80s to low 90s coastal and most of the valleys 100 plus.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.67887878417969&lat=34.43183254485123
Yikes, this is the Santa Ynez valley.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-120.09361267089844&lat=34.60382391547705
Heat will and should prevail through Friday, then cool to normal temps on the weekend. low 80s coastal and low 90s in valleys.
Still on the warm side over the weekend.
Enjoy the hot fall weather, bring lots of water.
Lots of reading today.
Go Lakers, Kobe is smiling 😊

Good Tuesday morning,
If you are waking in Santa Barbara, you see quite a bit of fog. The fog, however, is 500 to 800 feet thick today so a faster burn off is likely.
If your in the valleys, get ready for very hot temps with upper 90s for you over the next 4 days:
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-120.06683349609372&lat=34.60382391547705#.X3M-gC0iefA
In Santa Barbara a warm up is happening, but not as much due to the fog. Low 80s for us today.
Tonight, however, some light sundowner winds will make the coast clear on Wednesday morning.
Wednesday will be the day Santa Barbara really feels the warm up. No fog, just sunny with highs in the upper 80s and some low 90s.
Wednesday will be the hottest day of the week, with valleys getting into triple digits.
Thursday looks to be almost the same as Wednesday, hot dry conditions for all.
Moving into the weekend. High pressure remains with above normal temps through Saturday.
Sunday looks like we will cool slightly and bring the marine layer back. Temps will be at normal for this time of year.
Along the coast, we have one more day before the heat takes over. Valleys, it is today.

Good Monday morning,
The start of the work week and a hot week is the story. This morning it is warm at my house, with fog prevailing.
https://tempestwx.com/station/26594
The marine layer is 2000 feet thick in areas. As advertised yesterday, the Santa Ana wind will pick up today.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12
They are blowing around 30 miles an hour in the mountains, but have not made it to the coastal areas at this point because of the thicker marine layer.
Winds should pick up in Ventura and South by late morning. This will bring 30 mile an hour winds to the coast and valleys. 45 miles an hour in the mountains.
This will also bring a rise in temps. Those areas feeling the wind will feel the biggest rise approaching the century mark.
For us in Santa Barbara, no wind for us only warmer temps with highs in the mid 80s today and tonight low 60s for us.
Tonight will remain warm, in the Santa Ana zone with lows in the 70s.
Tuesday will be hot for all. Temps will rise with lower 90s along the coast and most valleys making it to 100.
Tuesday night looks like Santa Barbara might see sundowner wind event, warming us up further.
Wednesday and Thursday no real change. Above normal temps with little to no cooling.
Friday and into the weekend, we will see some cooling, but it will only bring temps back to normal for this time of year.
It looks like the end of September and the start of October will bring us hot weather.
Enjoy the week, bring lots of water with you.

Good Friday morning,
The power outage yesterday delayed the Thursday weather till 5 pm, but was written at 5 am.
Hopefully you will get it on time today 🤔
What a perfect night on Thursday. Perfectly calm winds and warm. It was great sitting on the deck watching a great game between the Lakers and Denver.
With Laker prevailed, after a great game. Denver made it exciting, game 5 Saturday night, 3-1 Lakers.
Today we will start out with clear skies on SB, but fog is creeping our way from the South. LA and Catalina will struggle with an Eddie which is making it foggy there.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12
Temps today will vary. Coastal areas 60s to low 80s just inland.
Valleys upper 80s to low 90s. A nice overall day for all.
Saturday and Sunday we will warm each day slightly. It should be a nice weekend.
The start of next week will bring us hot weather, as off shore and Santa Ana conditions set up.
It looks like Monday through Thursday will bring some record highs with coastal areas in the 80s to low 90s. Valleys mid 90s to the 103 mark in some locations.
Enjoy the nice weekend, because next week is going to be hot 🥵

Good Thursday morning,
There is not much of a change since Wednesday’s forecast. We will do a quick update.
A weak low pressure system is sweeping down from the northwest. This really is not going to affect us much. A few degrees of cooling through Friday.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12
Friday night will likely bring us some sundowner winds.
Saturday the warm up begins as high pressure builds in.
Sunday slightly warmer.
Monday through Wednesday is looking quite warm. Looks like Santa Ana conditions with highs in the 90s and valleys topping 100 in some areas.
Not as hot as the last heatwave, but still warm. AC will be needed 😄
Jack Martin
09/23/2020
Good Wednesday morning,
Happy Equinox day. This comes spring and fall every year. 12 hours of day light and 12 hours of darkness.
Winter months are lurking in our future, however, you are not going to know this over the next 7 days.
We will be starting a warm up each day as we head into next week.
If you look at the satellite, you will notice 3 things.
Storms to the north will stay over the Pacific Northwest , and hurricane Lowell is west of us spinning harmless.
In the middle, high pressure is building in and will warm us up as each day goes by.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
It looks like we will all be enjoying summer like weather through the weekend.
Likely Monday will be the hottest in the next 7 days as we will have a mini heatwave.
Looks like 90s and 100s in the valleys with lows at night in the 70s. Coastal will be nicer with still some morning fog, and highs in the 80s.
If your looking for rain, go to the pacific northwest, they are getting lots of it. Dousing all the fires.
Enjoy the nice weather, summer still rules in Southern California.
Jack Martin
09/21/2020
Good Monday morning,
I hope everyone had a nice weekend. We will start out our work week with cooler temps and Fall like conditions.
If you are waking up in Santa Ynez, you are feeling a chilly 48 degrees, Santa Barbara 56 degrees.
Today will warm up, but still be cooler with a high in SB of 74 and Santa Ynez in the low 80s.
Morning Fog will be part of our forecast most of the week with cooler temps.
Mid 70s coastal and low 80s in the valleys, with chilly nights.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12
As we approach the second half of the week, we will start a slight warm up.
By the weekend, the warm up will bring temps into the low 90s in the valleys and low 80s coastal. All in all, just a nice fall week.
Great Roofing weather.
How about the Lakers last night? If you did not see the finish, check it out Anthony Davis was the Man.
Have a great week!

09/18/2020
Good Friday morning,
The weekend is nearing, which is always more relaxing than the work week.
Today we are starting out with warmer mornings due to Karina throwing mid to high clouds over us, and pushing the smoke East.
https://tempestwx.com/station/26594
Good news on the fire front in the Pacific Northwest, they are seeing Rain the next 2 days:
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
This low pressure system moving south will also affect us with some cooler air.
Tonight the biggest affect will be sundowner winds blowing from the north at 40 miles an hour in SB and Goleta. The good part of this for Santa Barbara is it will keep the fog away.
The weekend will still be nice for all, but a California Eddie will form bringing Catalina Fog. This will affect a lot of coastal LA.
Temps still should remain around normal through the weekend with highs in the low 80s coastal and 60s at night. Valleys will still remain in the mid 80s but cool to the 50s overnight.
Next week cooling Monday and Tuesday, then a warm up Wednesday into the weekend.
This looks to provide us temps 6 degrees above normal and a possible heatwave in our future.
Have a great weekend.
Jack Martin
09/17/2020
Good Thursday Morning,
Yes, I got up way too early this morning . “ If bars were open, I got up before last call “ I am going to need a nap today.
Today I have good news with the smoke. Karina is arriving and pushing all the smoke to the East.
There is also another system moving into the Pacific northwest that will douse the fires there.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
Last night we had some mild sundowner winds in SB, keeping us warmer into the evening. This will continue through Saturday.
That will keep temps in Santa Barbara warmer with less of a chance of fog locally due to north winds.
The rest of the areas will see cooler temps due to the colder air dropping from the system moving into the Pacific Northwest.
This will all translate into highs during the days in the low 80s and 60s at night in Santa Barbara.
The valleys will have highs in the mid 80s and cooler nights in the lower 50s.
Next week we are looking at seasonable temps with not a lot of changes. Few degrees cooler Monday and Tuesday with some fog.
Then slight warming on Wednesday. The real news however is the smoke, it will be nice to push that away from us.
Enjoy the blue skies.
Jack Martin
09/16/2020
Good Wednesday morning,
One more day of smoke, then I have some good news for us.
It looks like Thursday we will see south flow from former tropical storm Karin which will push smoke away from us.
giving us smoke free skies for the first time in 2 weeks.
You can see the system in the southern Pacific moving north, also another in the pacific northwest that will affect there weather.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
Today some fog, but it is low. Clearing should happen earlier.
Tonight we are looking at a mild sundowner wind event which should keep the coastal areas of Gaviotas to Ventura a little warmer and clear skies.
Thursday will feel a little more tropical with smoke free skies. Karina is not predicted to bring us any rain at this point, just the south wind.
Thursday night another sundowner event, more in Gaviota.
Friday and through the weekend we are expecting some cooling in the valleys due to colder air.
Coastal Santa Barbara should stay a few degrees warmer due to the sundowner winds.
Let’s hope the fires and smoke goes away for the season and we return to blue skies.
Good news in the Pacific Northwest, where most of the fires are burning.
Rain is in the forecast, Thursday through Saturday.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?x=227&y=138&site=pqr&zmx=&zmy=&map_x=227&map_y=137
I am looking forward to seeing clear blue skies again.
Hump day, the weekend is getting nearer.

Good Monday morning,
We are starting out the weather report this morning, with Portland Oregon Forecast.
There is rain in their forecast and we want their fires out.
For us we are looking at typical weather with smoke. Air quality is moderate here, so not bad. It just looks ugly.
The good news is by the end of the week, the smoke should be blowing East.
Today and Tuesday, warm weather for all and fall like nights with lows in to lower 50s in Santa Ynez and upper 50s here.
Nights are cooling more. Day time is warm with 80s and 90s . This will persist though the first half of the week.
Looks like Wednesday we should see some sundowner with western Goleta and the mountains due to pressure changes.
We will see some low clouds and cooler temps the second half of the week.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.69741816259922&lat=34.41733284772546
Then nice for the weekend with low could in the mornings and warming up to just above normal.
The best part of the forecast is the smoke will hopefully be gone by the weekend.
Have a great day!
Jack Martin
09/11/2020
Good Friday morning,
The weather is all about the fires these days. It is pretty crazy to look at these satellite pictures to see all the fires burning on Nor Cal and Oregon.
https://www.livescience.com/west-coast-wildfires-seen-from-space.html
This one shows how the smoke is blanketing all of the west coast.
Stepping a side from the fires. There is dense fog along the coast this morning. It is like pea soup out there this morning.
Gray low with gray from smoke high, is going to take typical day of fog to sunshine into fog with smoke. This will keep the skies hazy all day.
High pressure is dominating the weather with low pressure east and west pumping the smoke north to south. This will continue through at least Saturday.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.phpsat=G17&band=09&length=12
Nights have been cool and days the same. Day time highs have been knocked down 5 to 7 degrees, because of the smoke.
The weekend weather was to be generally warmer with temps slightly above normal, but the smoke is changing that.
Hopefully Sunday will start to improve the smoke in our areas. Highs this weekend will be right around 80 degrees and lows in the upper 50s at night along the coast.
In the valleys, days are warmer in the mid 80s, but nights are cooler in the low 50s.
Monday we are looking at a warm up, where temps will climb by 6 to 8 degrees and last through Tuesday.
Wednesday, another cool down as a system to the north rolls through the pacific northwest and into California. The good news is this will create rain in Oregon Monday night into Tuesday.
That will hopefully start to knock down this mess.
In the East, look at the storms lined up in the Atlantic. https://wwhttps://www.nhc.noaa.gov/w.nhc.noaa.gov/
Crazy!!!!
To top all this off, it is the 19th Anniversary of 9/11. Sorry for the Gloomy forecast, but lets go out and make it a better day.
I will try, here are a few short funny videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk6P0QX1pdE&feature=youtu.be
And last Puppies
Have a great day, make someone smile.

Good foggy Thursday morning,
Yes, Fog +Smoke = 🤢 Yuck
This is what a sunny day is like in Hell. It makes me happy that I will never have to go there.
Fires continue to burn north and south of us, creating ugly weather.
Did you see San Francisco yesterday…. that was really bad. We have it good compared to all of the folks to the north.
Even Santa Ynez looked a lot gloomier, but at least no ash is falling. In reality, the Air quality is actually good. smoke is way up there and not affecting our Air quality.
Today we will have another one of those days with fog and smoke. Highs will be in the mid 70s.
To the south, a weak Santa Ana event has not really affected the coastal areas. Still the same Gloom that we have.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.66445922851562&lat=34.44882116361117#.X1ojKC0iefA
For the weather looking forward, we will hope the smoke goes elsewhere and we can return to sunnier days.
For the weekend, we should have warmer temps and less smoke with more Sun. We will all enjoy that….
Not a lot of excitement to talk about here. We will have low 80s with cooler Nights through the weekend.
On the subtropical front, The Pacific has had a fairly quiet season.
But look at the East Coast in the Atlantic, they Have storms lining up. It will be active next week.
Looks like these storms are heading Towards the warm Gulf water.
No hurricanes here, enjoy and let’s hope smoke goes East.
Jack Martin
09/09/2020
Good Wednesday morning,
It sure was a nice change yesterday to see the fog and some light drizzle Tuesday.
What a change from the record heat to fog and drizzle. If you thought that was odd, take a look at the contrast in Denver where they saw 90 degrees Monday and 5 inches of snow yesterday.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/08/us/denver-snow-weather.html
For us, we are now starting the next wave of weather. A Santa Ana wind event will start up today from Ventura to LA.
This is going to bring wind, dry air and low humidity. All ingredients for high fire danger from Ventura south.
The winds start up a few hours ago, but have not made their way into Ventura yet.
Onshore flow is still holding, but it will lose the battle to off shore Santa Ana winds.
Mountain winds will increase to 50 miles an hour. Winds will pick up later today and temps will rise to above normal.
A sharp contrast to the north where the central coast and Santa Ynez are waking to fog and cooler temps. In the middle, Santa Barbara will see more sun today, but no wind.
Temps will begin to climb for all to slightly above normal. We are expecting low 80s coastal and low 90s in the valleys. The Santa Ana winds will back off later Thursday, leaving us with seasonable weather.
Highs again will be slightly above normal with low 80s in SB and 90 in the valleys over the weekend.
Skies will be mostly sunny except for smoke areas. It seems fires are burning north and south of us creating a red sun.
Did you see it last night? Fire sun. Not a pretty sight.
Looks like not a lot of excitement in our weather into early next week. Just seasonable 80s and low 90s, with 60s overnight in SB, but the valleys will cool into the 50s overnight.
Fall is coming to Santa Ynez, with bigger temp swings.
Have a great day, lets get those fires under control.
Jack Martin
09/08/2020
Good Tuesday morning,
We survived the Heat blast. Monday afternoon, the onshore flow returned and started to blanket the beaches with fog around 4 pm.
It is interesting that days are getting shorter with darkness still out there at 6:18 this morning. Once the sun rises, you will see Fog. A coastal Eddie has also brought fog from Gaviota to LA. It is 2,000 feet thick and will keep the coast fogged in most of the day.
https://www.eldoradoweather.com/satellite/goes/goeswest-large/us-pacific-coast-geocolor.php
Today we are going to have great work weather with temps dropping to seasonable.
Later today, however, a Santa Ana wind event is going to bring up winds and dry air for Ventura to LA.
You folks will also see lots of smoke from Bob cat fire to the East.
Hopefully the winds will not drive it too far into the valleys.
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.2270976,-118.3508764,9.26z/data=!4m3!15m2!1m1!1s%2Fg%2F11hnw__rgj
It will be one of those nights and into Wednesday where fire danger is high for those locations. Even Santa Barbara will see some smoke from this fire. Coastal and valley areas will warm up due to compressing of air, both Wednesday and Thursday. SB will remain seasonable, 80 degrees. Friday, we start a pattern with not a lot of excitement. The weekend will be nice and seasonable.
Maybe a little coastal fog, but for the most part, sunny and moderate temps.
Next Monday will be the warmest in the next 7 days as off shore winds return.
Have a great shorter work week.
Jack Martin
09/07/2020
Wow,
What a day we had Sunday. Just incredibly Hot with records broken everywhere.
My house just off Las Positas hit a high of 103 degrees, but that’s not the strangest part.
We went to Hendry’s beach for dinner at the Boathouse. The sunset was great. It cooled off to a nice 70 there, but when I got home at 9 pm, 1 mile away it was 96 degrees due to the sundowner winds. The craziest spot was Gaviota that got to 120 degrees at 9pm.

The record breaking heat hit everywhere. The Santa Ynez valley got to 119, with one unofficial reading of 122 degrees, that’s nuts.
Today we will still see one more day of heat, but temps will drop off in all areas thanks to onshore winds that will come up in the afternoon.
Still with that we will still see mid 90s in Santa Barbara and valleys around 100.
Clear out there today 72 at my house and 85 at Gaviota
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12
Tuesday we will cool off more and we will have manageable warmth, with high in SB around 86 and valleys the low 90s.
Wednesday is going to be interesting, because they are predicting the first Santa Ana wind event of the season.
That means Ventura to LA will see off shore winds and dangerous fire weather. This will persist Wednesday and Thursday.
Bringing Hot winds and very dry air. This will not affect Santa Barbara, but it will likely raise temps at times.
The weekend will come quickly this week because of the holiday. It looks like the warm weather will continue, but remain manageable.
One more day of heat, enjoy the beach. Yes I said the beach… it looks like the County and city gave up on trying to keep people off the beaches
Saturday they tried to keep people moving and not sitting, but Sunday they allowed it and rightfully so. It was just too hot for all to hang out at there homes.
The ocean temps is a nice 66 degrees cooling you off. Low tide is now at 8 pm tonight. High tide is 1:42 Pm today.
Stay cool, hang in there, the worst is over.
Jack Martin
09/04/2020
Good Friday morning,
It is still pleasant outside with cool temps this morning. Enjoy them while they last, because it all changes Saturday night. Where lows overnight are expected to be 75.
Santa Barbara will be the cool spot this weekend at 95 degrees. https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.6967315673828&lat=34.43013349299815#.X1Ithi0iefB
The heatwave starts today in all the valley areas. We are expecting triple digits in most locations for highs of the day.
This is thanks to high pressure over the 4 corner states, bringing us one of the hottest weekends in 10 years.
Saturday and through Monday the heat wave will blanket the entire forecast area, including all coastal cities.
Today we are looking at a nice start to the day, but the mercury will quickly climb to be 87 in Santa Barbara and 100 in Santa Ynez.
Saturday, the heat continues to climb by 5 to 7 degrees. You can do the math.
SB in the 90s and valleys well over 100.
Saturday night, there will be no cool down, just hot…. lows will be in the 70s. Some locations in valleys will be in the low 80s.
Sunday will be the hottest of the days. “We will break records.”
We will try a test and see if we can fry an egg outside.
Highs in SB will be mid to upper 90s. Beaches should hit 90 degrees.
Inland…oh my….. approaching 110 to 115 degrees.
Sunday night, one more hot one. Lows again in the 70s. My wife is going to be burning the AC while I will be in a winter coat.
Monday looks to bring us a break, if you consider a cool down of 5 degrees a break. It will still be 8 to 13 degrees above normal for this time of year.
Tuesday we back off another 5 to 7 degrees, which brings us down to just a few degrees above normal.
Labor Day typically marks the end of summer for most of the United States, but for Southern California it just marks the start of the hottest 2 months of the year.
September and October are generally very warm.
Also ocean temps are at there highest with 70 possible, but today and the weekend, a nice 66 to cool your feet and bodies.
https://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/Hendry-s-Beach-Arroyo-Burro/seatemp
You will want to put your feet and entire bodies into the water this weekend. So here is our tide schedule. High tide is going to be mid day.
Not a lot of room on the beaches, everyone will want to be closest to the water anyway.
https://www.tide-forecast.com/locations/Santa-Barbara-California/tides/latest
Enjoy the heat, because you don’t have a choice…. 😁

09/03/2020
Good Thursday morning,
We are in the second half of the week and the heat will be building each day.
Today will be the last reasonably warm day before the mercury rockets.
The official heat wave begins in the mountains, deserts and valleys Friday, then coastal Saturday.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.68505859374997&lat=34.42616890436072#.X1DwIS0iefB
Today, we will have a nice fog free day in SB with fog 1000 feet thick in other locations.
For the most part we will warm, but still be in the comfort zone.
SB around 82 and valleys 92.
Tonight is when it all begins to change…
On shore wind turn off shore as high pressure builds in the 4 corners States. Looks like some sundowner winds especially in north Goleta and Gaviota. This will heat up all areas Friday with the exception of coastal areas.
Inland most areas will be 100 and each day it gets hotter through Sunday. SB will rise 5 degrees to 87 Friday.
Saturday the heat is on for all…. 90s coastal to 110 inland….
Sunday, the hottest day…. 95 in SB and hell everywhere else with temps approaching 115 in some inland areas.
Monday the temps start to retreat by 5 degrees, but still 10 degrees above normal and really hot Tuesday a little more of a break, by another 5 degrees. Still 🥵 hot Wednesday is still not clear, we will see how the models flow.
It really does not matter anyway, because we need to get through this heatwave first….
Hang in there, it is going to be a hot stretch with records broken.
Jack Martin

Good Tuesday morning and the First day in September,
We are expecting nice weather for the next few days, but look out for the weekend. It is going to be crazy hot for all.
This graphic will spell it out. Everywhere is in red: https://www.weather.gov/lox/
We do have a few more days of seasonable weather, then the heat is on Friday.
Today we are looking at nice weather with highs coastal in the upper 70s and inland 10 degrees warmer.
Wednesday and each day forward Temps will begin to climb each day.
Friday and through the weekend, the heat is on. Just in time for the labor day weekend.
It looks like 90s coastal and 100s everywhere else.
