Thursday Weather Update

Good morning,

The current forecast is all about fog and low clouds. This morning as you wake, and the light of day arrives well into the 6 am hour, you will find it damp outside.

Last light did you see the moon (moon pic attached, Adam had a better view)? It was pretty spectacular. If you did not, check it out tonight. It will look really cool at the Bowl tonight at the Alanis Morissette show.

As far as our weather goes in the short term, as I said earlier, it is all about fog and low clouds. With last morning clearing at the coast, inland today will still be warm, but cooling for all starts on Friday and goes through the weekend.

On the Rosa front. She is a cat 3 hurricane now. Out in the ocean, in no harms way for us. This will increase the surf. So you will find lots of folks in the surf Friday and this weekend .

Regarding the rain possibility, well it is still out there. LA and south are very likely to get wet. SoCal and Arizona for sure. It looks like the tropical storm Monday will turn into the shore in northern Baja. This will bring rain to those areas. LA might even see 1 to 2 inches.

For us, it is not clear at this point how things will play out. We should have a better handle on this Sunday. Two models are talking about some subtropical moisture being pulled up from a low to the north on Tuesday and Wednesday. This can result in our first rain of the season. We will watch this as our weekend approaches.

In the meantime, enjoy the fall weather. Days are getting shorter. You can especially tell by the lack of light as we, or you wake up.

Have a great day.

Hump Day Forecast

Good Wednesday morning,

Well, there is Action on the weather front.

For the short term, we will have warmer weather today and Thursday. Coastal should warm to around 80 with much less fog. Valleys will warm to the low 90s.

For the weekend, cooler temps will come back.

There is tropical storm ROSA to the south. This should turn into a hurricane today or Thursday.

This storm has a potential to affect our weather next week. Still 6 days away, but some of the models are showing this aimed for southern California.

We will need to watch this as the weekend approaches. This may provide us our first rain Tuesdayish.

Good Monday Morning

Here we go, the first Monday of Fall. I can really start to feel the change. The daylight is getting shorter. We are now going to have less than 12 hours of daylight. Each day will continue to get shorter until Dec 21st. Then, it will take another 3 months before we see 12 hours of daylight.

Who says southern California does not have seasons? We do, just not as extreme as the rest of the country.

For this week, however, the change in weather is only going to create fog and low clouds each morning, then cooler temps all week.

Highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 50s coastal. Valleys are going to feel the cooler nights more.

This week’s weather will pretty much be the same all week. Slightly warmer Tuesday through Thursday. Then cooling off Friday into the weekend.

The change, however will only be a few degrees, so nothing extreme.

Enjoy your work week, and take advantage of daylight while you can. Break out those sweatshirts, you will begin to need them.

Here is what it looks like from the sky.

Last Week of Summer

Good Monday morning,

What a great weekend. This week will not disappoint you also. We will have another great week, with highs near 80 and lows in the low 60s.

Perfect work week weather.

As our week comes closer to the end, we will have another warm up; making for a great way to end summer.

Next Sunday is officially the fall, or the beginning of our Indian summer.

Wednesday Morning Forecast

Good Wednesday morning,

The weather here is nice and calm. It is interesting to wake up in the mornings and view my security cameras at my house. I can see the drizzle or fog in the screen each morning. Today is no different than it has been.

For our friends in other areas, it’s crazy or going to be.

All the hype is on the hurricane that is going to hit the Carolina’s on Friday, but right now tropical storms are hitting Hawaii, and Cabo San Lucas.

Take a look at the satellite.

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

Cabo is getting lots of rain right now. Hawaii is doing the same.

The tropical storm is creating lots of rain on the Hawaiian islands with the tropical storm moving right though Maui later today.

Both resort areas are seeing lots of rain. Hawaii has been hit twice this summer with lots of rain.

This system will produce 5 to 10 inches…” we would like some of that….. “

For us, the only action will be on the TV. Florence is going to hammer the Carolina’s Friday afternoon.

It looks like it will hit the shore as a Cat 2 or 3 now.

Ok, you are up to date on the weather in a 3,000 mile radius.

For us, fog, cooler and in the 70s during the days. Nights in the low 60s. Perfect fall weather.

For the weekend, we are looking for a slight warm up. Highs in the low 80s.

Cabo connection. David, give me the Cabo update, all the rain is going to make it tropical for my daughters wedding in October..

Good Monday Morning

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

It was pretty nice in SB. The fog kept temps around 80 degrees locally, however the valleys were quite warm with 90s in Santa Ynez, and Paso hit the century mark.

This week will be a little cooler, with temps in the mid 70s coastal and 80s in the valley.

Next weekend should bring in warmer temps, as high pressure builds in.

Take a look at the satellite picture. Lots of action out there. A few hurricanes are in view. Hawaii will get the next one starting Tuesday night. This looks to go right through the middle of the islands.

There are also a few systems in the Gulf of Alaska. This is showing us the seasons are beginning to change.

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

Hurricanes are also active on the East coast. Looks like Florence will hit on Wednesday in the Carolinas.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov

With a few more out there over the Atlantic, we also have hit the letter P with hurricane Paul on the west coast.

Ok that’s the quick up date. Have a great week.

Weekend Weather

Good Friday morning,

This week went fast with a Monday holiday.

It certainly feels like the seasons are changing this week. Nights have been cooler and morning damp. It is beginning to feel like fall, but we are going to take a pause through the weekend.

Summer will return with warm temps. Santa Barbara will warm each day with highs in the mid-80s. For the valleys you will also feel the heat. Highs in Santa Ynez will be in the 90s and around 100 on Saturday, lows in the 50s at night.

This is all due to high pressure building in.

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

We should even see some gusty sundowner winds Saturday night, mainly in the Goleta and Gaviota areas. SB will also feel these at 20 to 30 miles an hour. This will keep Santa Barbara quite warm Saturday night, with lows at around 68. That’s a warm night.

Sunday will be a great day to take a bike ride, clear skies in the morning and warmer weather.

Next week we will go back to fall, with a few systems coming out of the gulf of Alaska. This will result in cooler temps, fog and maybe some drizzle for us.

No rain yet, but the season is not far off. Each week I think the rain shadow will begin to get closer. Sometime in October we will see our first rain.

Until then, the Indian summer begins. This should bring us summer-like weather at different periods through October.

Enjoy the first one.

As a side note, hurricane season is really coming alive on the east coast. Looks like there are 4 lines up now. The weather channel will get higher rates over the month of Sept.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov

Here on the west coast it is much quieter with only 2 hurricanes going out in the pacific, bothering nothing but ship traffic.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/?epac

Have a great weekend. These updates are going to start coming more often again.

Damp Morning

Good Wednesday morning,

It is a bit damp out there in areas this morning. This is thanks to a low pressure that system In the gulf of Alaska.

This is drawing in a marine layer.

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

We will see one more day or night of morning low clouds and fog, and then we will be in line for a warm up for the weekend.

Hurricane Norman looks to miss the Hawaiian Islands, but high surf and wetness will affect the east side of the islands.

http://www.staradvertiser.com/2018/09/04/weather-updates/Norman-remains-category-1-hurricane-as-it-heads-toward-isles/

Hurricanes are also affecting the east coast. Looks like action is picking up in the Atlantic.

In the west, it looks like P hurricane will form in the next week. That means 10 more before we go through the alphabet. Not likely this will happen, but it has been an active season.

For us, no excitement, just some damp mornings, then warming into the weekend.

Weather This Week

Good Tuesday morning,

I hope everyone had a great 3 day weekend. The weather sure was nice…

For this week, our weather is going to be nice. No excitement here, but those gulf cities will get hammered with a tropical storm.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=atlc&fdays=2

Highs here will be 60s overnight and 80s by day. Just perfect weather for us.
