Good Friday morning,
What a day it was on Thursday. Santa Barbara made it to 90 degrees and it was still 77 at 6:30 pm last night.
One more warm day, before we start to cool through the weekend and into next week.
Today we will see upper 70s with offshore winds turning to onshore flow this afternoon.
Tonight the marine layer will return and Saturday will be cooler with highs in the low 70s.
The weekend really will remain the same with some fog and highs around 70.
Monday, a low-pressure system moves in and gives rain as far south as the central coast.
It will not do anything south of point conception.
Where rain does fall on the central coast, it will be very light with 1/10th of an inch.
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, a weak ridge warms us up some.
No rain in sight for our area through the week.
Have a great weekend and happy Halloween Saturday.
It will be great for the kids to get out and knock on doors.

Good Thursday morning,
If you enjoyed the warm weather we had on Wednesday, you are going to love the forecast for today.
Yesterday we hit a high of 82 degrees in Santa Barbara and 87 in Santa Ynez.
This morning as I went outside at 4:30 am, it was quite warm at 65 degrees.
Today we are looking at the warmest day of the week. Highs today will be 3 to 6 degrees warmer than yesterday.
You can do the math; Highs will be in the upper 80s to the low 90s. Just a great summer like day.
Friday will also be a nice day with highs still in the upper 70s and low 80s, but upper flow will bring back the marine layer Friday night.
Saturday and Sunday highs in the low 70s and some morning fog.
Monday, a low-pressure system will bring some rain as far south as the central coast. for us, marine layer is all.
Looks like dry weather through at least mid-week, if not all week in the first week of November. Yes Monday, is November 1st.
Enjoy the fantastic summer like day, it will be one of those days that we love in southern California in late October.
Get outside, it will be a chamber of commerce day 😊
Here is how it looks from the sky https:

Good Tuesday morning,
What a great storm that was for our area. Rain totals were fantastic with San Marcos pass as the big winner with 4.57 inches. Everyone fell in line below that with 1 to 3 inches.
Here are the totals for the county:
Today, a complete reversal of Monday. High pressure is building in, and temps will begin to warm each day through Thursday where some areas will record 90s. This is all thanks to offshore winds increasing the temps each day through Thursday. 70s today then upper 70s or low 80s on Wednesday.
The darkness is still upon us, as days are getting shorter. When the sun does rise, the views of the islands will give us HD perfection. I just love the day after a rain as it makes our area picture perfect.
As we get into the weekend, cooling and on shore flow returns, but no rain in sight, unless you are in Nor Cal. Next week looks to remain dry for at least the first half of the week.
For you snow lovers, check out Mammoth mountain with 2 to 3 feet of snow on the mountain and 12 to 15 inches in town.
Have a great day, the sun is back!

Good Monday morning,
Don’t despair, the rain is still on it’s way. The rain is falling just north of us with good rain totals in SLO.
Rocky butte in SLO has received 4.65 inches so far. If you were watching the 49ers game last night, you saw how hard it was raining there.
The system was expected to slow down some and it has stalled over SLO. This is great news for the southern Sierras as rain totals will be much higher.
Rain is now moving into Santa Maria and will pick up to the south soon.
https://zoom.earth/#view=34.79,-121.85,6z/date=2021-10-25,05:10,-7
Rain should arrive in Santa Barbara around 7:30 am and the heaviest rain 8:30 to noonish, delayed around 2 hours from Sunday’s forecast.
Rain is now starting in Lompoc:
https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/santa-barbara/93101/weather-radar/327137
As mentioned, this is all good news because where we really want the rain totals will be more in the mountains. Totals locally have not changed.
1 to 3 inches Santa Barbara County with good South flow. The Santa Barbara mountains will see enhanced totals 2 to 4 inches.
Ventura, you will see the rain around 9 am then, the rain arrives in LA late morning. Totals Ventura south, start to drop off to .5 to 1.5 inches.
After the storm, the sun will arrive around 1 pm with some mountain showers continuing into the evening.
Tuesday through Friday, warm, sunny and offshore winds. The weekend we cool off some, but no rain the rest of the week.
This will make it great for the Kids that have not seen Halloween and trick or treating for the past 2 years.
t’s hard to believe we have been dealing with COVID for that long.
Enjoy the rain, the good news is you will be able to see it falling.

Good Thursday morning,
Take a look at the healthy low-pressure system to the north.
That’s what all the chatter is about: https://zoom.earth/
Today, dry, sunny with some high clouds and low 70s.
Tonight a weak sundowner wind west of the airport, not really affecting SB.
Friday, a weak wave rolls in, some light rain for SLO, fog for us.
Friday night, better northwest wind event for us, 20 to 30 miles an hour.
Saturday, relatively dry with some clouds over the mountains.
Sunday, the low-pressure system begins to move south. It does appear to be slowing some.
Rain in SLO and northern SB, Santa Ynez in the afternoon 1/4 or less.
Rain chances then begin to spread south. It will begin on the lighter side then pick up over night. It now looks like Monday, late morning into the afternoon will be the wettest period.
1 to 3 inches in SLO and Santa Barbara county, and 1/2 to 1 1/2 Ventura to LA.
It does look like the Sierras will get plenty of snow with this system.
This will make everyone happy from skiers to drought followers.
The big update comes Friday as we roll into the short-term models.
We will wait and see if there are any changes.
Enjoy, we will update Friday morning.
Cheers to your morning cup of coffee.

Good Wednesday morning,
As the last week in October approaches, most of us think about Halloween. “Not Jack “ I think about the first rain of the season.
It is funny, as I type the weather report, the Governor has declared extreme drought and a winter with below normal rainfall.
Maybe someone should send him my weather report, because his timing is not good, as Nor Cal will get rain for the next 5 days.
Excitement is ahead and it is looking to be a strong storm system. We are looking at 1 to 2 inches Monday, not just a little light rain.
This will be thanks to a big low-pressure system that will shoot waves at us over the next 4 days.
https://zoom.earth/#view=47.8,-110.3,4z/date=2021-10-20,06:10,-7
Monday’s system will combine with an atmospheric river with PWAT 1.7 inches of rain embedded.
As the attorneys always say in disclosures, we will need to confirm this forecast as it gets closer to the event. 😊
That day will be Friday as we fall into the 72-hour period, and short-range models, timing can change 12 hours either way.
So that’s the excitement, now the current forecast.
Today, a system to the north will reach n Nor Cal, and do nothing more then give us some clouds.
Thursday, a nice warm day will give us highs in the low 70s coastal and upper 70s in the valleys.
Friday, another wave rolls off the parent low and drops as far south as SLO and northern SB county.
Saturday same idea, as the low drops south, some light rain to northern SB county of no more than 1/10th of an inch.
Sunday the unsettled rain will begin for all, the exact timing is still not clear, but at this point lighter rain will begin is SLO Sunday day.
Then drop south Sunday afternoon and night . The heaviest rain for all Monday, with the atmospheric river creating heavy rain and possible flooding.
Bottom line excitement is ahead, stay tuned. Friday will tell us exact timing.
Enjoy, and Happy birthday Karen, this forecast is for you.

Good Tuesday morning,
A chilly start to the day, much cooler than Monday, especially in the valleys. It was 36 degrees in Santa Ynez.
Today will be warmer as the sun and mild offshore winds will warm us up, overall a nice day high around 70s.
https://zoom.earth/#view=43.2,-120.5,4z/date=2021-10-19,06:00,-7
Wednesday, a weak low-pressure system washes out over Monterey. Nothing more than some clouds for us.
Thursday, we should start with some fog, with continued warming. This will be the warmest in the next 7 days in the mid-70s.
Then to Friday and throughout the weekend, there will be a series of systems thrown our way from a big system in the Gulf of Alaska. The first on Friday will make it to SLO and no affect here.
Saturday another impulse that should also wash out for us, keeping us dry.
Now there is Sunday and Monday.
This is interesting because it does look like we will see the first significant rain of the season.
The exact timing is still not clear, and rain totals are only primary, but at this point, 2 inches on the central coast and 1 inch here is a good rain event.
As always, stay tuned for update.

Good Monday morning,
Some north wind out there this morning as a cold front dies moving through SLO.
There are some clouds and drizzle out there, just not in SB this morning.
https://zoom.earth/#view=30.63,-118.08,6z/date=2021-10-18,05:50,-7
Today will be the coldest in the next 7 days as most areas will remain in the 60s.
Tuesday through Friday will remain mostly sunny and nice as we have ridges build and then breakdown. No real excitement with warming temps.
Friday through Monday, a series of systems roll through but die out as they reach the south coast. Not looking good for rain now, but there is still a chance of light rain.
Looking to next Monday, models are showing the best chance for rain.
This again is long range, but one of these days it will really happen.
Besides Halloween is 12 days away and we always see our first rain around that time.
Enjoy the week, and cooler day today!

Good Friday morning,
Good news it is, the 101 is back open.
The fire is still burning at 11% containment, but the winds in our area has calmed.
Now the winds shift to Ventura south and they now have a Red flag alert.
Today and through Saturday it is all about the hot weather.
Looks like mid to upper 80s through Saturday thanks to Santa Ana wind conditions.
Windy in Ventura south with 20 to 30 miles an hour Santa Ana warm winds.
Sunday, we start to cool down as 2 weak systems approache.
The first system north of Hawaii, then the second from the Gulf of Alaska.
These will do nothing more than cool us down, bring back fog and maybe some drizzle.
Mid-week, we look to see another system pass through, but all eyes are on the weekend.
Saturday through Monday, we will see a storm system bring a good chance for rain to the entire forecast area. Yes, this is still a ways out, but long range models are bullish on the first real rain of the season.
In the meantime, we are not stuck on an island 🏝 any longer. You can go places without tons of traffic. That being said, who would want to leave SB this weekend, because the weather will be better here than any where in this US.
Enjoy the great summer weather.

Good Thursday morning,
Today the weather is all about the fire. The noozhawk has some incredible photos of what is going on.
Photo Gallery of Alisal Fire Burning in Southern Santa Barbara County | Local News – Noozhawk.com
The good news is our winds will start to improve starting today in the fire area. Early next week we should see fog.
Here is the forecast in that area:
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.96218875423072&lat=34.47848631993692
The good news is the winds now shift away from the fire area here, but the bad news is the winds area is now south in Ventura to LA.
This will bring a high fire alert in those areas with winds increasing through Saturday.

For us in Santa Barbara, where we only have the smell of smoke and a mess on the 154.
We will see warm October weather through the weekend with highs in the low to mid 80s with lows in the 60s.
On the flip side the Santa Ynez valley, we will see lows in the 40s, chilly at night then 40+ degrees warmer during the day.
Sunday afternoon, cooler air will move in and cool it down. The bad news is north winds will be back on Monday.
The only good part is this will be with fog.
Have a nice day,

Wednesday the 13th,
Today we will see warming temps in Santa Barbara with high pressure building in through the weekend.
https://zoom.earth/#view=33.9,-122.8,4.77z/date=2021-10-13,06:50,-7
Tonight, the fire area will see sundowner winds that will stir the fire up. These winds will be west of the airport and right over the fire.
Thursday, high pressure and offshore Northeast winds will bring warmer temps and calmer winds in the fire areas.
Friday and through the weekend is looking calm, warm, and sunny. Highs in SB around 80 degrees.
The 101 remains closed and a mess on the pass. Hopefully, something breaks by Friday.
The fire did jump the 101 again this morning in one location. It will likely stay closed until at least Friday.
Have as good a day as you can, I feel bad for the travelers from north county to SB.

Today we will see a cooler day with highs reaching the low 70s. In the valleys tonight, temps will near the freezing mark.
The good news is the winds should die down later today, hopefully enough to get the fire down.
Wednesday looks like one more inside slider with wind and cooler temps. SB will see one more round of winds.
Thursday through the rest of the week, we will start to warm up again. By Saturday we will see 80s along the coast, making another great weekend.
To our south in and around Cabo, it is all about Pamela. She is still a tropical storm, but will likely turn into a hurricane tonight. She will run south cabo tonight on it’s way to the west coast of Mexico. After that, she turns into a tropical depression and heads to Texas where their skies will fill with rain, thunder and lighting.

Good Monday morning,
What a fantastic Sunday it was. Santa Barbara hit 81 degrees and Sunstone vineyard was 89 degrees. Just a fantastic weekend. Today Columbus Day. A day off for some, but not the construction industry.
If you go outside you can feel the cool off shore dry wind. This is thanks to low pressure in Oregon dropping south over land. This is a colder system that will bring wind and colder air. Some valleys will almost see freezing temps tonight.
Santa Barbara will see winds with a high of 75.
If you looked at the zoom earth weather map. You will see a tropical storm Pamela in the pacific, south of Baja. This will strengthen tonight and turn into a hurricane. It looks like it will brush Cabo, but head East into the coast.
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_ep1.shtml?start#contents
Moving back home.
This week we will see on and off Santa Ana winds. These are cool winds, so temps will not rise as some Santa Ana events. We will be talking about Santa Ana winds, lots over the next 2 months as it is the season for these winds. “Spring and Fall.”
Temps this week will remain in the 70s along the coast and valleys. Nighttime will be chilly in the valleys with 30s.
Enjoy the week,
Jack Martin

Good Friday morning,
Look at that, wet stuff is out there. Hard to call this rain, but it is a wet drizzle.
Looking at the radar, you can see we have some light rain, but LA is certainly much wetter.
This is thanks to low pressure to the north and some subtropical clouds to the south, making it wetter in LA.
The light rain will lead to a dry afternoon, then warming for the weekend.
Today we will see a whopping 1/10th of an inch with some areas seeing up to ¼ of an inch.
Temps today will be on the cool side with highs in the mid-60s. Tonight, a low of 55 degrees and some wind 10 to 20 miles an hour.
Looking into the Santa Ynez valley highs in the mid-60s today, but tonight a chilly 40 degrees. If you are attending a football game, you better dress warm.
Saturday we will warm up with a high of 70 and upper 50s as a low. Saturday night is also the Foreigner show at the bowl. Expect mid 60s for show time.
Speaking of the concert, I have 4 tickets if anyone is interested. They are a great location right behind the sound board, “dead center section H,” $121.00 each.
“I am babysitting my 16-month granddaughter this weekend. Her mom and dad celebrate their 5-year anniversary, Gramps is very excited.“
If interested, call me on my cell 805-896-3276.
Sunday will be the best day with highs in the mid to upper 70s. This will be the warmest day in the next 7 days.
Next week, cooling and some wind on and off as an inside slider blows through with no rain, just some wind.
Looking further in the week, looks to be calm with slight warming.
Enjoy the damp morning, real rain will come one of these days.
Go Dodgers!

Good Thursday morning,
No real changes to the forecast.
Today we will see a cool and mostly cloudy day, with highs in the 60s.
https://zoom.earth/#view=35,-137.6,4.59z/date=2021-10-07,06:50,-7
Tonight and Friday morning, the low-pressure system to the north will move through.
It does look like we will see some rain Friday morning, but it would like to be 1/10 to a max of 1/4 of an inch. Friday will also remain cooler, with the front passing through by the afternoon.
Saturday, we start a warmup, with a nice weekend ahead of us.
Sunday will be the warmest day of the next 7.
Next week, back to cooler weather for the first 3 days with an inside slider passing through.
Thursday we should start another warmup.
That’s the wrap up, not a lot of excitement in the weather, however how about those Dodgers with a 9th inning walk off run?
It will make for a great west coast series agains the San Francisco Giants .
GO Dodgers!
Ed, thanks for the nice sunset picture!

Good Wednesday morning,
We will start the day with the return to fog and cooler temps.
Overall, today will be a nice day with some morning fog, then mid to high clouds floating over us throughout the day. It will make for a pretty sunset. Temps will cool a few degrees, remaining in the low 70s.
Thursday, colder air will move south, and some energy will branch off from the low pressure system to the north. This will create some morning drizzle in areas, then cooler temps, and highs in the upper 60s.
https://zoom.earth/#view=44,-165.5,3.46z/date=2021-10-06,06:00,-7
Thursday night, the low begins to move in. Some rain over night and into Friday, but it is not looking like much. 1/10 to 1/4 of an inch. In our area, more like 1/10th, enough to get the streets damp and remind us that our dry spell is coming to a close.
The weekend is looking good, warmer temps, high pressure and mild offshore winds spell a great weekend. Sunday will be the best day.
Next week we go back to cooler weather with a dry inside slider moving in.
There’s a word I have not used in some time. Inside sliders are systems that go over land and are cooler lows that are dry, moisture starved and generally only produce some wind.
This week has proven to be more exciting weather wise; we will see what our future brings.
Enjoy the change, and the nice weekend ahead.
As always, I will keep you up to date.

Holly Moly,
What a storm last night. That was spectacular!!!
The 20% chance was not much during the day.
It all changed around 4:30 pm, when it was clear that thunderstorms to the south were heading our way.
The show started right around 6:30 and went well into 9 pm. Of course Jack had to climb onto his roof and take some pictures.

I lasted around 45 minutes, then decided after the big one that looked like a boom going off, “I better get off the roof.”
As far as rain goes, we did see some, but 1/10 to ¼ inch was the totals. Not a big rain event, just lots of lightning and thunder.
It was better than a real fireworks show!
Here are rain totals:
https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/getlocal.php?prod=LAXRRMSBA
I do have to give a big shout out to Marco, who worked overtime last night putting this video with sound together. “Great Job”
Today it all calms down as the system has moved East. LA might still see some rain, but it is over here.
Today will be nice with a weak pop-up ridge and mid-70s. Tonight, fog returns and a cool down begins as low pressure moves south.
Thursday will be a cloudy day with drizzle in the morning. The system to the north looks pretty impressive: https://zoom.earth/
This still looks to be weaker as it reaches us, but now it does look like we might see 1/10 to ¼ of an inch Friday afternoon.
Still a weaker system for us, but nice rain to the North. Hopefully putting out those fires.
The weekend offshore builds in, and we will see a nice warm up.
Looking way into next week, a weak low will come south and likely keep any rain north of our areas.
Have a good day, it will be interesting to see how my phone lights up today.

Good Monday morning,
I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. Sunday was just a great warm day to get outside .
To start the work week, there is a low-pressure system to the south that should give mainly LA to San Diego a chance for some rain, at around 40%. To the north, here is our area 20% tonight. Today should be cloudy most of the day with some high clouds. Temps will drop off to the mid 70s.
https://zoom.earth/#view=31.1,-120.9,5.64z/date=2021-10-04,06:20,-7
Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday, a weak ridge will keep us in the mid 70s with typical morning fog.
Thursday a low-pressure system to the north will move towards us . If you look at the forecast, they do put a slight chance for rain Thursday night and Friday. Models are still not sure on the outcome. We will have a better picture on Tuesday if we see any rain out of this system.
Where it’s October, it is early on and as the weeks roll by, systems to the north will begin to drop further south. Typically we see our first rain right around halloween.
Have a great week!!!!!!
