November 2020

11/25/2020

Good Wednesday morning,

Today the tail end of a low will wash through, bringing us a cooler day and wind to SB tonight.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12

Thursday, a northeast wind event moves into Ventura with gusts 30 to 40 miles an hour.

Friday through the weekend looks good. Warmer and dry.

Hope everyone has a safe holiday regardless of how you celebrate Thanksgiving.

I will be thankful when the vaccine is here and life turns to the old normal.

Have a great holiday!

Try not to watch the news, they always spell gloom.

Good Tuesday morning,

As requested by Mark, here is the current lake levels in Santa Barbara area.

Lake Cachuma is at 66%, so we are just fine with no rain to date.

http://www.countyofsb.org/pwd/water/downloads/hydro/rainfallreports/rainfallreport.pdf

Speaking of dry, that is the forecast through at least the middle of next week.

Let’s actually give you a better idea of what our pattern looks like for the next 7 plus days.

You will not be disappointed.

Last night we had some northwest winds. These are shifting to Northeast today.

Today overall will be cooler, but nice. Likely a few degrees warmer than Monday. Highs in the mid to upper 60s.

Wednesday, not much change from today.

Thursday looks to be a nice day with highs nearing 70 degrees.

Friday looks to be warmer with a Santa Ana event starting winds will be strong in Ventura and surrounding areas.

The weekend will provide a nice warm up, with Santa Ana winds keeping us high and dry, highs in the low 70s.

As mentioned yesterday, we will have a Trifecta with 3 great weekends in a row.

Next week, no major changes through at least mid week…

Enjoy the continued great California weather.

You can brag to family on the Thanksgiving call or FaceTime from the Beach.

Good Friday morning,

5:01 am, we are allowed to leave our houses now. I know the curfew would only affect me at the early 5am hour, because I am sound asleep well before the start at 10pm 😊

https://news.yahoo.com/california-imposes-strict-curfew-covid-102558956.html

Our weather between 5am to 10pm is going to be really nice through the weekend. High pressure is building in and a mild off shore event will keep us warm.

Santa Barbara will see highs around 70 and lows in the upper 40s.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.68753053434193&lat=34.43183254485123

Santa Ynez valley will be warmer during the day with upper 70s and lows in the low 40s.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-120.13027949072418&lat=34.606536730470665

Sunday will be the warmest day of the weekend. Next week there really is very little change.

Highs in the upper 60s and lows in the 40s.

Thanksgiving is looking dry and pleasant.

Enjoy the weekend.

Good Thursday morning,

Thanksgiving is one week away…..that came quick…. it will be nuts for online shopping this year.

How about that big storm yesterday. Santa Barbara had a .004 as the system fell apart.

North county had .15, still not anything to speak of.

https://www.cnrfc.noaa.gov/precipForecast.php?cwa=LOX&day=1&img=5

The forecast is actually easy. Calm dry weather through Thanksgiving and likely through the rest of the month, with no rain in sight.

The only real item of note will be some wind events here and there as weak fronts pass by. Highs will be in the 60s for all with cooler nights.

Enjoy calm California weather.

11/18/2020

Good Wednesday morning,

The rain is almost here. Falling in SLO right now. This will work it’s way south into santa Ynez then Santa Barbara this morning.

Do not expect much from this very weak system. 1/4 north of point conception and 1/10 south. Yes SB is south…..

Here is the radar, you can see it starting to rain to the north.

https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=radar_cr&list=VBX_7.png,VBX_6.png,VBX_5.png,VBX_4.png,VBX_3.png,VBX_2.png,VBX_1.png,VBX_0.png

This system will pass through today, giving us a damp start, then the wind will come up in the afternoon.

Thursday will be seasonable with cooler temps and sun.

No real changes from there.

Saturday, a weak system rolls through doing really nothing.

Early next week, depending on the model you read. We could see an off shore event again.

Enjoy the little rain.

Good Tuesday morning,

OMG what a day we had on Monday. In Santa Barbara we had a high of 89 degrees and Camarillo broke a record at 95 degrees.

After the weather on Monday, it is hard to believe we are now going to talk about the rain. Well here is the next system. It will arrive later tonight.

https://www.eldoradoweather.com/current/satellite/west-us-east-pacific-geocolor.html

For today, nice weather, with mountain winds from the southeast. Clouds will start to flow in ahead of the front this afternoon.

Tonight, rain will arrive to the central coast, then move into santa Ynez. This will be a light rain storm with 1/4 inch or less.

For Santa Barbara and even Ventura, the weather service has bumped the rain chances to 40%.

Where rain does fall in SB-South, it will be very light with possibly 1/10 of an inch.

Wednesday will still produce a slight chance for showers, but likely over the mountains only. Coastal areas will be spared.

After the front passes through, we will go back to a northerly wind event.

Santa Barbara and other locations will see on and off Northerly winds the rest of the week.

In addition to the wind, it will bring back more seasonable temps. You will need the light jacket once again.

As we look into late this week and the weekend, a weak front will pass Saturday with no real affect other than the wind factor.

Looking into the extended forecast, it looks like we could have another off shore event early next week.

Next Thursday is Thanksgiving, can you believe it is that time of year?

Zoom and House party Apps will be very busy that day.

This will be a funky holiday season.

Let’s all ask Santa for a Vaccine for Christmas, so life can return to how we liked it.

For now, enjoy the last day of warmer weather for the week.

Also, rain chances over night, cover your patio furniture!

Good Monday Morning,

What a great weekend it was, today however, is going to be the best day of the week.

The most incredible part of the weekend was the Beach. Low tide was an incredible -1.37 and today will be even slightly lower at -1.38 You have to get out there and see this amazing sight. You will view what divers see on the surface and open air.

Low tide is at 4:40 pm, this is your last chance to see it because darkness will take over. Trust me, it is worth the trip to the beach.

The weather is also going to be fantastic today. Highs in SB will be 80 degrees. Down south it will be a hot 89 degrees, but you need to put up with the wind at 35 miles an hour.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12

Tuesday will be the last warm day for the week. Highs will be in the 70s, so the cooling trend is beginning.

Tuesday night and Wednesday, a low pressure system drops down out of Canada bringing rain all the way to the Santa Ynez valley.

The rain chance drops off as it moves south of Santa Barbara, but they are still giving Santa Barbara a 30% chance of 1/4 of an inch or less.

Wednesday after the system goes through, the wind comes back. We should have some pretty good sundowner winds Wednesday night in SB.

The rest of the week will return us to cooler with temps. Going back to chilly and below normal, but no rain for the rest of the week after Tuesday night and Wednesday chances.

Check out the pictures from yesterday at Hendry’s beach. If possible, I highly recommend getting down there today. This will be your last chance to view the underwater ocean exposed to us.

It will be really busy at Hendry’s beach for parking, so get there early. I think I will need one more viewing myself, see you there!!!!

As always have a great week!

Happy Friday the 13th,

Nothing scary about our forecast.

Today we will see the front wash through with the Central coast seeing some fog, but to the south, sunny skies.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Tonight, Santa Barbara and Northwest exposed areas will see wind as we see a change in pressure.

Saturday sunshine highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 40s along the coast, lower 40s in the valleys.

Saturday evening, another round of sundowner winds from the northwest in SB.

Sunday, high pressure and off shore winds build in. Winds shift to the northeast over Ventura to LA.

This will bring us warmer days and highs will begin to climb into the upper 70s to low 80s.

Monday, Heavenly. Chamber of commerce day for mid November, highs in the 80s for all.

Tuesday, the warmth continues, just slightly cooler. Highs in the upper 70s.

Wednesday, a weak low approaches. This does nothing for us other than slightly cooler.

Thursday, the front washes out as it approaches the central coast.

Friday is typical fall weather.

Next weekend it looks like we might see another off shore event with warmth for all.

Bottom line, Southern California is looking high and dry. For as long as the extended forecast can predict.

Enjoy California dreaming weather.

Lastly happy Friday the 13th, nothing to be afraid of with the weather 💀👻

Jack Martin

11/12/2020

Good morning,

On Thursday the 12th of November. Do you know what that means? If you said tomorrow is Friday the 13th you are the winner!!

Today however, will start off as each day has for the past week. Chilly morning and warming to the upper 60s in the afternoon.

Tonight a weak low pressure system starts it’s way over us. This will only create some mild sundowner winds.

https://www.eldoradoweather.com/current/satellite/west-us-east-pacific-geocolor.html

Friday we will see some wind and typical ongoing weather. LA mountains can see a little snow. I will walk under a ladder for good luck 😀

Saturday we will see warming as high pressure builds in.

Off shore winds will begin to affect us Sunday with warmer days and nice weather for mid November.

Monday will be the hottest day in awhile and likely for some time. Highs for all will be in the 80s, with a few 90s here and there.

Tuesday still warm, but cooler temps mid 70s.

Wednesday will be a little cooler as we transition back to seasonable weather. Bottom line, we will have all types of weather in Southern California this next week.

Except rain.

Enjoy, as always it is always better in south California 🤩

OK NOW TAKE A MINUTE AND LISTEN TO THIS CLASSIC SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SONG. It was 1973  < Albert Hammond

I was in 8th grade living in Springfield, Pa. Glad I am here in Southern California.

It is worth listening…enjoy!!!!

11/11/2020

Good Wednesday morning,

It is still chilly out there, but starting the day we will not have freezing temps in the valleys as we have lately.

The valleys are starting out in the 30s and coast in the 40s.

There was once a slight chance for rain on Thursday, that chance is all but gone now.

We are expecting partly cloudy skies now.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Thursday night the system rolls through and brings up some Northwest winds at Jack’s and George’s house.

Friday we will start to see high pressure building in with some northeast winds.

The weekend is looking good as an off shore event sets up.

Saturday will be slightly warmer, but Sunday and Monday we will see highs in the 70s and low 80s.

It looks like we have at least one more warm up in our forecast.

Enjoy the great weather this weekend, as the rest of the country suffers with cold and more COVID.

Personally, I would like to keep both out of California …

Enjoy the warm up.

11/10/2020

Good Tuesday morning,

The day light is less and less each day, which brings the chill back as soon as the sunsets.

Sunrise Today:
6:27 am↑ 111° Southeast
Sunset Today:
4:57 pm↑ 249° West

Today will be no different. Waking up in the Santa Inez Valley, it is a chilly 30 degrees. Here in SB warmer at 49,  but just down the hill on Las positas 42 degrees.

Lower elevations keep chill in the air longer.

Today we will see the sun warm temps into the lower 60s, but it will be short lived when sunset arrives and we cool down again.

Looks like our forecast has little excitement with continued below normal temps and sunny days through Thursday.

Thursday night brings a light chance of rain, but models are backing off with 20% chance of 1/10 of an inch. A little highs in SLO, but not going to affect much of anything.

Slight warm up into the weekend. Looks like any chance for rain is being kicked down the road, until at least Wednesday of next week.

High pressure and off shore event should arrive Sunday. Not a lot of Action on the weather front.

Stay warm, it’s chilly out there this morning. I am looking for my gloves today 😊

Jack Martin

11/09/2020

Good Monday morning,

Chilly morning out there, Santa Ynez is 32 chilly degrees 45 at my house.

The wind is gone now, but a mess is left behind.

The next few days will be chilly, but sunny. Day time highs will reach 60 and night time in the Santa Ynez valley will be in the 20s.

This will be the story through Thursday with just a few degrees of warming as we get into mid week.

Thursday night, the forecast is still showing a slight chance of rain into Friday. This is a weak system that will likely stay north of SB city.

The weekend is still not clear, one model is calling for rain Saturday the other dry. We will see how it plays out for the week.

Looking into next week, it looks like a possibility of rain in the beginning of the week.

All chance of rain upcoming will be lighter, with nothing big in the picture.

Enjoy a chilly day, you will need a jacket.

Jack Martin

11/05/2020

Good Thursday morning,

What a great day we had on Wednesday with a high in Santa Barbara of 83 and 87 in Santa Ynez.

Today will be no different. Highs today will actually be warmer than Wednesday.

It will also feel more tropical as a former tropical storm in Mexico drifts over us.

You can see the 2 systems north and south that are drifting our way:
https://www.eldoradoweather.com/current/satellite/west-us-east-pacific-geocolor.html

If you walk outside you can feel it is starting out warmer. This will bring us 80s and 90s for all today.

Right on the heels of the warmth is a cold low pressure system. This is due to arrive Friday. What will happen in 80s and 90s for highs will change to 60s.

Just like the Election going back and forth, so is our forecast for rain chances.

It is now looking like we will see a better chance for some light rain occurring over night Friday into Saturday.

The greatest chance will be from Santa Ynez to the north. Rain is likely there with around 1/4 of an inch falling overnight and Saturday morning.

For Santa Barbara, the percentage has jumped to 40% durning the same period. Rain totals will be less in both Santa Barbara and Ventura.

It will also remain chilly through the weekend with highs in the low 60s. Chillier nights especially in the valleys where lows will be near freezing.

Sunday, another and second low approaches, bringing back another chance of rain. This low will move more inland with less moisture, so mountain rain is likely and little elsewhere.

Next week, we will have a little warm up but still below normal temps.

“Fun Fact,” Downtown LA has been 70 degrees or warmer for 200 straight days and this will end Sunday.

Enjoy the great weather today, then the first rain of the season over night Friday into Saturday.

Don’t expect a lot, but we will see some likely.

Jack Martin

11/03/2020

Yes, this day has finally come. Election day, regardless of how you vote. I think everyone will agree we will be happy when political ads stop.

Weather….

As I mentioned in the earlier forecast, we would have temps ranging from  the 70s to 90s this week.

The fog is still with us this morning. Today will be one of the 70s days, low 70s along the coast. Low 80s in the valleys.

I was emailing a manufacturer in Maine this morning, she said it was 25 degrees there. We have it pretty good…..

Starting on Wednesday we will see a nice warm up for all. High pressure and off shore winds will build in, bringing us 80s and 90s.

Thursday, will be the warmest day of the week. Just fantastic weather for the next 2 days.

Friday we reverse the warmth with the cold. We will see a colder system drop over our areas for 3 days. Highs Friday will remain in the low 70s, but Saturday.

We get the chill, highs along the coast will be in the low 60s and high 60s in the valleys.

Sunday even colder with valleys lows around 33 degrees and highs only in the lower 60s.

Monday we start a slight warm up.

Basically we have a little bit of everything this week, even a slight chance of rain over the mountains Sunday afternoon.

All in all we will take the weather in stride in Southern California.

Have a great day, the reality shit show will start tonight.

Jack Martin

11/02/2020

Good Monday morning,

The only real change to the forecast is darkness at 5:30 pm each day, with a 1 to 2 minute each day of daylight loss until December 21st. Yesterday we saw some tropical clouds over us thanks to a weak system that floated up from Mexico. This made a nice tropical feel in the afternoon, and of coarse a great sunset.

Today through Thursday we will have warm days, highs in the 70s to 90s. Friday we cool down with fog and onshore returning.

The weekend will be cool but nice. Highs will be in the 60s along the beach and 70s in the valleys.

Enjoy the week.
