5/31/18 Good Thursday Morning
Here we go… the last day of May. Then June arrives on Friday.
Today a weak front is moving through. This will not do a lot, but light rain is possible later this morning in the foothills.
Today we are starting out much dryer then Wednesday. The marine layer is thicker, but a dry layer below the clouds is keeping the drizzle out for now.
SB has mixed clouds.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Tonight the front moves through and this should create a typical sundowner wind event for Santa Barbara around 6 pm.
Friday morning should be clear, thanks to the sundowner winds in SB. Other locations might still see some low clouds.
The weekend, look for high pressure to warm us all up. Temps will rise each day and Sunday will be the warmest day.
Start of the work week should bring us typical June weather with a weak system rolling through and night and morning low clouds returning.
Have a great day.
5/29/18 Good Tuesday Morning
I hope everyone had a great long weekend. Now it is back to reality. Time to have a crazy Tuesday and start the work week a day late.
Take a look at the satellite, our first sub-tropical moisture popping up out of Mexico.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
This is interesting to see this early in the season. Looks like there is even a chance of thunder showers over the mountains from Santa Barbara south.
In reality, the showers should stay south of SB, but wanted to let all know there is a possibility.
Wednesday, low pressure takes over from the northwest. Bringing us cooler temps during the rest of the work week.
Thursday morning, May Gray will also continue as marine layer and even some drizzle may exist.
Friday, wow it is June 1st. How did that happen!!! We will transition from May Gray to June gloom….More fog and low clouds.
The fast tracking weekend looks to be warmer and sunny.
Now it’s time to go out and make a difference in the world today, or at least SB…
See you all out on the streets.
5/25/18 Friday and Holiday Weekend Forecast
Good Friday morning,
Well there it is. The weak low pressure system spinning 100 miles west of Monterey.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
This is going to keep us cool, damp and cloudy over the next 30 hours. The marine layer is now 6,000 feet thick. That means another day of no clearing.
Tonight, the system moves east and drops the front southward over us. This really should have no effect, but pockets of drizzle are likely in areas.
Saturday, clouds to start, then wind coming up in the afternoon. It will be breezy Saturday afternoon and evening, with northwest winds.
Winds at the Bowl will not be too bad because the hills shelter it some. If you are at the top, you will likely feel them more.
Sunday through Tuesday we warm up. Temps will climb each day, then bring us into the 70s coastal and low 80s inland.
Have a great holiday weekend. The freeways are going to be nuts this afternoon and Monday.
I will stay home and watch the traffic from my deck.
Have a great weekend.
If you are going to the bay area, here you go.

5/24/18 Thursday Update
Good Thursday morning,
Lots of clouds out there. The fog is now 5,000 feet thick. This means little, to no clearing today.
Even the valleys will remain cloudy most of the day, with temps down 15 degrees below normal for this time of year in the valleys.
Low pressure is 400 miles west of point conception. This will move east tonight and be 100 miles west of Monterey.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
What this all means is there is a chance of rain tonight through Friday, north of SLO into the Bay Area.
For us, lots of clouds and marine layer, and even a chance of morning drizzle for the next 2 mornings.
As you pull yourself out of bed and go outside, you can smell the moisture in the air.
Looks like Saturday, the low pressure system moves east. This will create sundowner winds Saturday night. The good news out of this is it will clear out the marine layer for Sunday morning in SB.
Temps will actually warm to be slightly above normal Sunday through Tuesday in the 70s.
Ok, May Gray is in full Action…
5/23/18 Good Wednesday Morning
Hump day, with a holiday weekend coming.
Not a lot of interesting weather around here. Normal low clouds and fog, with some warming this weekend.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Today, we have a weak ridge building in. Thick marine layer will keep us cooler, with low clouds to 4,000 ft. This will create another day of reverse clearing.
Thursday a low pressure system moves closer. This might bring the low clouds and drizzle to some areas.
Friday the low moves over San Francisco. They will likely see some rain. So if you are traveling to the Bay Area, bring an umbrella.
Saturday, the same old thing. However, it looks like a wind event from the North West in the evening. Sundowner winds.
Sunday we warm up as high pressure builds in, but another round of sundowner winds Sunday night.
Memorial Day Monday, is looking to be the warmest day, with highs slightly above normal.
Enjoy the day…
5/22/18 Good Tuesday Morning
Tuesday!!!!!!
What happened to Monday? I was up and going at 4 am, but forgot to put out a forecast…. sorry, but here you go.
May gray is in full motion… this morning the fog is 4,000 feet thick. This means we will likely see reverse clearing, this means it clears along the coast first and mountains later.
This week we have a series on low pressure systems that will keep us cool, cloudy and below normal temps.
This pattern has now been going on the past 2 weeks. Highs all have been below normal. This will continue into the weekend.
We might break this on Sunday and Monday. However, it will bring it to normal temps at best.
Bottom line expect cooler and fog all week.
Friday a cut off low arrives in the Bay Area. They are looking at getting some late season rain.
This will affect all areas, as far south as the central coast. There could even be a few showers in Paso and SLO.
For us, possible drizzle Friday morning, at best. Friday night even looks like a sundowner wind event.
The weekend should bring temps up to normal, with more sunshine.
Saturday night, another show at the bowl. Last week the young enjoyed Katie Perry.
This week we get the Old. Tom Jones… last year when he canceled, my first thought was, “will he still be alive ?…… “Just kidding, I love his music and it should be a great show. I have been listening to it in the hot tub for the past year.
Weather should help those old bones loosen up.

This is what it looks like in the sky right now.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Enjoy the week, we will be checking in with updates as things change.
Have a great day!
5/16/18 Wednesday Forecast
Good Wednesday morning,
Not a lot of excitement in the weather front.
Today we have the next weak weather system rolling over California. You can see it spinning.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
This will do nothing more than create low clouds overnight into Thursday morning. There even could be a little drizzle in the foothills and some coastal areas. Highs will be below normal in the 60s.
Thursday the low will have left us, and we would get some sundowner winds after 6 PM.
Friday and through the weekend will be slightly warmer with temps getting into the low 70s coastal, and upper 70s to low 80s inland.
Like I said, nothing very exciting in the forecast for this week. Enjoy the cooler temps.
Great for all of us that work outdoors.
Enjoy!
5/15/18 Good Tuesday Morning
We will make this a quick one.
Another clear day to start Tuesday. Today will be cooler with highs in the upper 60s.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Overnight and into Wednesday, the fog should return. There is even a chance of drizzle in some areas.
Thursday we will get into the wind. SB should see sundowner winds Thursday night.
Friday, and into the weekend is now looking cooler. As a matter of fact, there is not a good handle on the weather. We will wait and see what happens.
Have a great day.
5/14/18 Forecast for our New Work Week
Good Monday morning,
What a good one it is. We wake to sunshine after a few days of lots of low clouds and drizzle.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Picture perfect weather for the Amgen Tour stage today. The rides are going to have perfect weather with highs around 70, and light winds.
If you have never seen this, toy might want to go to coast village road. They should ride though around 3pm.
Don’t blink, because they will be riding so fast it will all be by us in a few minutes.
If you’re really adventurous then go to Gibralter road. They will climb this 8 mile hill at a much slower speed.
https://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/2018-stage-2-mens
For everyone else, this will still be a nice day. Lots of sun, and maybe a little afternoon wind.
Most of this week is going to be in the low 70s, with night and morning clouds.
Tuesday night into Wednesday, it looks like low pressure will brush to the north.
This will allow fog and low clouds to return, and a possibility of drizzle. Just like Saturday, when we actually got some like rain.
As we march through the week and near the weekend, we should have a warming trend.
Looks like Friday through Sunday will be above normal. It should make a great day to be at the bowl for Katie Perry on Saturday night.
I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day. Always great to get together with family.
We will see you all on the streets.
I am going to dust my trophy and ride to watch the Amgen this afternoon.

5/9/18 May 9th Weather
Good Wednesday morning,
Clear out there to start the day. Today will actually be the best and warmest day for the week.
Tonight the sundowner winds will greet us when we go home. Expect winds tonight around 7 PM blowing 20 miles an hour.
This might even warm us up to the highs of the day.
Thursday cooler starts with fog and low clouds rolling in. Santa Barbara will likely be spared, because of the wind tonight.
Friday and into the weekend will be May Gray. Looks like low clouds and fog. There is even a possibility of some drizzle.
Bottom line. It should be a nice weekend, but cooler with clouds until the afternoon.
5/3/18 Fantastic End to the Week, and the Weekend is Coming
Good Thursday morning,
The satellite tells the picture. High pressure is going to bring clear skies and great weather.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Today is transition day. If you look outside, the skies are clear and warmth is on the way.
Today we will feel the warm up as the day goes on. It will be in the 70s and 80s inland. Perfect weather.
Friday gets better. High pressure takes over and it will be warmer and summer like. Valleys into the 90s.

Saturday, the warmest day in the next 7 days, and the best. It will be the warmest day we have had to date. Valleys are really warming up. Upper 90s, coastal in the 80s.

Sunday we cool a little, but still a great day.
Next week, somewhat cooler, but still great weather….We are in a good dry pattern.
Our weather will be as good as my friend’s weather in Cabo….
Enjoy the weekend, great weather for getting outside.
5/2/18 Wednesday Weather
Good Wednesday morning
We had a very interesting May the 1st, seeing the afternoon rain. A few of my friends were not thinking this would come around, but 2pm there it was.
Rain in May. We received around 1/4 inch coastal, and the mountains had close to 1/2 an inch.
The low is currently over San Diego area, and the rain is gone.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
For today, we will start out with sunshine and some warming, however, by the afternoon we will see clouds start to form over the mountains due to the heating of the day and cold air in the sky.
This may trigger some mountain rains that can also spill over into the coastal areas. If this occurs, it will be later in the afternoon.
Thursday high pressure builds in and temps climb to the 80s in the valleys and 70s coastal.
Friday, we will have more of the same, with temps climbing higher. Valleys might even see some low 90s.
Saturday and into the weekend, we will see a little cooling trend as another weak system shows up. This will not affect us with anything more than cooler temps and some northwest winds.
Ok, that’s a wrap for the day.
Watch the mountains this afternoon, it will at the very least make a pretty sight.
5/1/18 Late Season Rain Today
Good Tuesday morning,
Looks like we might see a little rain this afternoon and tonight. There is a late season storm rolling down the coast right now.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
This will affect SB to LA. It does appear we will see some rain today. Spotty, but likely.
This system will bring lighter rain this afternoon, and into tonight. There is even a 25% chance of a thunder shower anywhere SB to LA.
Rain chance moves to LA overnight and the rain will be over Wednesday.
Don’t expect a lot, 1/10 to 1/3 of an inch, except where thunder storms fall. More rain is possible there. Thunder storms will be mainly over the mountains, but can drift over the coastal areas.
It will be a very cool day, as you can tell as you go outside. Today will be 6 to 12 degrees below normal. Pack a sweatshirt or light jacket. Highs in the low 60s.
Warm up later in the week.
Welcome to the first day of May.
