March 2021

03/31/2021

Good Wednesday morning,

The last day of the month. On Thursday we will welcome April.

Yesterday the onshore flow delayed the onset of the Santa Ana wind event, but it is here now.

Today we will warm up substantially with most areas in the upper 70s and low 80s.

The winds are rising in Ventura and South. This will create a windy and warm day for those locations.

The offshore flow will make Thursday the warmest day of the week. Winds will begin to drop by Thursday afternoon.

In Santa Barbara no wind, just warm and sunny weather through Thursday.

Friday still looks warm, but a weak – dry low move towards us.

The weekend will be a little cooler with highs in the low 70s.

Next week, the marine layer arrives for the first time in awhile. This will result in cooler days and possible drizzle or light rain by mid week.

Take a look at the east coast, lots of red and ugly weather today.

For us, none of that…. Just great weather for this time of year.

Enjoy the great weather and Happy Birthday Terri!

Good Thursday morning,

Yesterday was a nice warm day in SB and a windy day to the south.

Today brings another day of spring weather, and the next inside slider.
https://zoom.earth/

Today will be quite cool and breezy at times.

The fog layer is building into the Santa Ynez valley and will drop south today.

Some areas will struggle to see sunshine.

Highs are going to also drop off by 10 to 20 degrees. Most locations will see highs in the low 60s.

This is all due to a cold low dropping south from the Pacific Northwest.

This low has no moisture with it, bringing back the onshore flow and fog.

Tonight, the winds pick up once again in SB, expect another night of winds.

Yes, it is spring in Southern California, where the winds are the biggest factor.

Friday, we start out with fog and some dampness. Then we will begin a nice warm up.

The weekend is looking like A Chamber of Commerce Saturday and Sunday.

We will warm up into the 70s and some 80s, bringing back off shore flow and some Santa Ana winds.

Next week cools down Monday and Tuesday with another inside slider.

Wednesday forward, looks to bring back the 70s and 80s.

Are you feeling a trend here?

Temps are starting to rise and April arrives on Wednesday,  just in time for the warmth to be with us.

Enjoy a great weekend, once we get through the cooler next few days.

Happy Saint Patrick’s day,

It has been 1 year to the day, that Restraunt dining was shut down.

It is nice to see that today will be the first day that they are able to have inside dining again.

Hopefully,  this is the beginning of the end of this chapter in our lives.

Today will also be a nice day, with highs in the low to mid 60s. Some high clouds this morning, but lots of sunshine.

https://zoom.earth/#view=43.2,-129.7,4.29z/date=2021-03-17,05:40,-7

Thursday will be the warmest day of the week. Some areas will even hit 70 degrees.

Thursday night the weak system to the north drops into SLO county.

This will begin to create light rain after midnight.

Friday the rain moves south, at this point it looks like it stops around santa Ynez.

Ventura – south will likely remain dry. Any rain that may fall will be 1/10 of an inch, with max of 1/4 inch in SLO.

The weekend will be fair and uneventful. Temps will remain cool and below normal in the lower 60s.

Sunday night some wind.

Next week is looking dry, as an inside slider descends on Tuesday,  bringing wind from the northwest.

On Wednesday it changes to the northeast and sets up a Santa Ana wind event, warming us up.

Happy Saint Patties Day and Happy Birthday to my wife.

Good Tuesday morning,

The rain is gone, and low pressure has moved over Las Vegas.

Last night brought a nice rainbow as I was leaving work.

Rainbow31621

Today we have one more day of wind, then we are in for a break in weather.

Clear skies and no rain is the forecast for the next 7 days.

https://zoom.earth/#view=29.3,-125,5.21z/date=2021-03-16,02:00,-7

Today will be breezy with highs in the low 60s. Still chilly, but we are moving in the right direction.

Wednesday and Saint Patties day we will see warmer days and the return to indoor dining at Restraunt’s. “Did you know one year ago on Saint Patrick’s day was when we shut down Restraunt’s. It will be a happy day with the return to indoor dining.”

Thursday, will likely be the warmest day of the week, with valleys reaching low 70s.

Friday a weak system rolls in from the north. It looks to bring very light rain to SLO and northern Santa Barbara county, maybe 1/10 of an inch. South county and Ventura should see no rain.

Saturday will be nice with dry weather through at least Monday. Winds return Sunday afternoon.

Enjoy the calm weather. We need a break.

Good damp Monday morning,

As we rise this morning, you will find damp streets.

A weak low-pressure system has brought us rain as advertised overnight.

It is more like a Seattle rain, light and drizzly. My weather station has received 6/100th of an inch. This is right on target as we expected 1/10th of an inch to a max of 1/4th inch.

https://tempestwx.com/station/26594

Rain this morning will quickly clear out and work it’s way south.

Rain has started in Ventura and will arrive in LA just in time for the commute.

This afternoon there is still a chance for showers, but mostly in the mountains and above point conception. Highs today will be in the 50s for most. SB might top 60, but for the most part a cool California day. Temps will be 7 to 15 degrees below normal. The wind late this afternoon will be the biggest factor with northwest wind 20 to 40 miles an hour, with mountain gusts to 55 miles an hour. Snow level is at 3500 feet, some light dusting is possible in our local mountains.

Tuesday through Friday we are looking at dry and some warming. By mid week we will see temps rise to normal for the first time in 2 weeks.

Looking into the weekend, a weak front rolls in Friday night, but rain will stay in SLO with none south. We are looking to begin a dry spell Tuesday after a week of much needed rain.

Damp this morning, but only for the first few hours.

Have a great week!

Gauchos play Saturday and are a #12 seed. Pretty impressive for a mid major.

Good Thursday morning,

What excitement we had last night in Santa Barbara. I do not remember ever seeing snow or hail that accumulated over 1/2 an inch. That was pretty amazing from Santa Barbara. If you missed it you can see it on my Instagram page, @action_jackk

Today that low pressure system has moved very slowly. It is still off the coast and will bring rain and snow in the form of showers today.

https://zoom.earth/#view=23.9,-129,5.1z/date=2021-03-11,06:10,-8

This morning it is quite cold everywhere. At my house (1 mile from the ocean) it is 39 degrees. We also had just over 2 inches of rain and snow yesterday at my weather station. Today expect rain and snow in the form of showers. Everyone should see another 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch today or 1 to 6 inches of snow in the mountains.

WeatherStation31121

Tonight the system will finally move East and we will clear out rain chances here along the coast.

Some eastern portions of California could see a few showers.

Friday looks to be dry, sunny, but chilly.

Saturday, nice with some warming but still highs will be below normal in the 60s.

Sunday another nice day, and we get an extra hour of sunlight and one less hour of sleep.

Turn your clocks ahead.

Next week, looks like an inside slider, which generally means no rain, just wind.

Models are still all over the board with this, so playing it safe with chance of rain.

Enjoy the rain and snow, when we do get the wet stuff in California it is always exciting.

Have a great day, don’t forget that warm jacket today.

Good wet Wednesday morning,

It has been 6 weeks since we have had any rain. It is nice to hear it on my roof, and not in my house 😀.

The rain started last night and picked up after midnight, with the first wave of rain bringing us a little more than 1/2 inch so far. There were however, a few pockets of accumulation of over an inch.

As we look at the satellite, this is a large cold system with nice rotation, which will hang around for the next 36 hours.

https://zoom.earth/#view=33.71,-122.12,6.88z/date=2021-03-10,04:30,-8

As we wake up this morning with steady rain, which fell for 3 to 5 hours, will turn to showers. It is also chilly out there with mainly upper 40s with snow levels at 4000 feet. 45 degrees at my house and just over an inch of rain.

https://tempestwx.com/station/26594

Showers will be spotty throughout the day, but will pick up this afternoon and evening again.

The snow levels will also drop to 2500 to 3000 feet. This will allow snow in the local mountains.

Today there will actually be periods with no rain for this morning, but showers will return this afternoon as more activity moves in.

Thursday, the system will be over SLO and SB counties. It looks like, it will begin it’s truck to the East at that point. It does look like showers will persist into Thursday afternoon before departing our area.

Friday some wrap around moisture mainly in the eastern side of Southern California.

The weekend is going to be dry with some warming. Warming will be minimal with temps in the low 60s and still below normal.

Monday and Tuesday looks like there will be another system approaching SLO  and SB. This looks to produce some rain for us. It still is not clear how far south it will make it.

In the meantime, enjoy the rain and chill.

Dress warm and bring an umbrella.

Good Tuesday morning,

Finally after 6 weeks, we have rain on the way.

A cold low pressure system to the north will begin to drop south and rain will spread into our area tonight and Wednesday.

https://zoom.earth/#view=26.2,-109.8,4z/date=2021-03-09,04:50,-8

Last night the wind was blowing pretty hard from the Northwest, most of the night.

Expect more wind this morning, and a cool day.

Tonight, the low pressure system starts it’s truck southward and will position itself off San Francisco.

Rain chances will climb tonight, with rain for all by Wednesday morning.

SLO will even start to see some rain this afternoon. For us we have all day to button up and prepare.

This is going to be a cold system, with snow levels at 4000 feet tonight and dropping to 2500 to 3000 feet Wednesday night. This will give us some snow on local mountains and the Grapevine.

Rain will start up in SB tonight and follow suit in LA over night.

This system will tap into some moisture off shore which will enhance rain fall.

Overnight, rain might be heavy at times with thunder and lighting possible Wednesday.

Rainfall will be a modest 1/2 to an 1 inch, with higher amounts in the mountains.

Wednesday night the rain tappers to showers and snow level drops. This might make for a pretty and white morning in the mountains.

Thursday a chance of showers as the low moves east, but this is mainly in eastern California. For us, just a chilly day with highs in the upper 50s.

Friday though Sunday we warm some, but don’t expect much.

Temps overall will remain below normal for this time of year. Highs in the 60s.

I hope everyone enjoys the reunion with rain, Enjoy!

Good Thursday morning,

Yesterday was an interesting day with chilly temps, wind and a little rain.

This was all created by the cut-off low, wobbling down the coast.

You might remember yesterday’s forecast saying the low was behaving well, then it had to test me by wobbling closer to us for a short time creating some rain.

All in all, we barely had much of a rain with totals of 1/100 to 5/100.

It did create some excitement for a product we have not seen in 5 weeks.

Today the low is over Nevada, far from us.
https://zoom.earth/

Today and Friday we will see some warmth return, as high pressure and off shore winds return.

Today 6 to 12 degrees of warming and highs in the upper 60s.

Friday, one more nice day with 3 to 5 degrees of warming again. Some areas will see low 70s.

Saturday, we have the next low pressure system to cool us off again.

Rain chances will be as far south as SLO, for us only a mild sundowner wind event Saturday evening.

Sunday and Monday, we recover again with slight warming.

Tuesday into Wednesday, the next low pressure system arrives.

This will bring the low further south and give us a chance for rain.

Models are still not in agreement, with one calling for rain all the way into LA.

The one item models do agree on for next week will be quite cool all week, with highs just in the lower 60s. Later in the week we will have another impulse roll though. We will see what that will bring us, rain is possible.

Make your calendars, spring and daylight savings time is coming a week from Sunday.

Clocks ahead on Sunday the 14th. Day light will stick around till 7 pm.

Enjoy the warmer weather the next 2 days, because it will be absent from the forecast for the next week.

As always, have a great day 😊.

Good Wednesday morning,

The cut off low is behaving well and is now 300 miles west of LA.

This is throwing mid and high clouds our way, creating a great sunrise.

Today will be a cooler day, with highs in the low 60s, even a 20% chance of rain.

Should the cut off low wobble towards us, making a little northerly push.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Otherwise, it will be just a cooler day with onshore flow.

There is even a little dampness in the air today.

Later today the low wobbles to the East and is gone East by Thursday morning.

Thursday and Friday, a nice day with some warming.

Saturday, another weak low that will not cause us any rain, just some winds at time.

If rain does fall, it will stop in SLO. It will be a cooler weekend.

Next week, Monday is dry and Tuesday brings a chance for some lighter rain.

Later in the week it looks like a few stronger impulses roll in and give us a better chance to finally see rain.

We will wait and see if that comes through.

In the meantime, if you want to see rain, go to Orange County or San Diego.

Bring a sweatshirt today, you will thank me.

Have a great day.

Good Tuesday morning,

There she is. The little cut off low spinning out in the Pacific.

She is around 500 miles south west of SFO.
https://zoom.earth/

This low pressure system will wobble south of us, then move East over Orange County and San Diego Wednesday afternoon. The only real affect it will have is temps will be 10 to 15 degrees cooler, on Wednesday.

Today, however, will be a great day. Temps will be well above normal with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

Wednesday, the low pressure system affects us, only with much cooler air. Highs will only be in the lower 60s. Rain chances are only likely in Orange County and San Diego area, and it will be less then 1/4 of an inch.

Thursday, the low moves east and we have high pressure building in. It will warm up 3 to 5 degrees.

Friday, no excitement. Just good weather as high pressure begins to break down.

Saturday, another weak system rolls down from the north. This also looks to die before it hits SB. Some rain in SLO Saturday, but not much. It will be cooler again in SB with temps dropping 5 to 8 degrees. The other long range model thinks it might make it further south, but the way the season has gone it is not looking good.

Sunday and Monday high pressure builds back in. Warmer days will prevail.

Tuesday another weak system. The jury is still out on weather it will affect us.

Bottom line, it has not been a season for rain. 2 good storms and really nothing else in the past 3 months. Hang in there, there is always 2022.

Have a great day, sunny and warm. A good day to be outdoors.
