March 2020

3/31/2020

Good Tuesday morning,

Here we go. The last day of March, with a new month starting Wednesday.

March will end a long month with a great day, we will see the warmest day of this week.

Highs should be in the 70s everywhere, due to off shore winds. areas to the south will even see warmer weather.

With some Santa Ana winds, our weather will continue to be nice all week, but Wednesday night, winds should shift to the northwest and create some sun downer winds here in SB.

3/30/2020

Good Monday morning,

Last Monday in March, and we do NOT have any chances of rain in the forecast this week.

As a matter of fact, it will be spring in the air all week with warmer temps. It looks like all areas will see 70s all week long.

High pressure has built in and we will see off shore flow, with some Northeast winds in the Ventura south areas.

3/29/2020

Good Sunday morning,

It is always great to wake up in Santa Barbara in these unsettled times.

I go through my morning mental check list, sore throat ? No 😊  It is going to be a good day.

I was at Hendry’s beach yesterday, it was nice to get out. Seeing everyone practicing good social distancing, and enjoying something we all love.

We ordered food and drinks of course from the Boathouse To Go and sat 6 feet apart on the beach.

3/28/2020

Good Saturday morning,

Another chilly start to our day, but warmth is in our forecast for next week.

Today we will see sunny skies and highs in the mid 60s again.

Tonight and Sunday, a weak system will bring a chance of rain, mainly to SLO and northern SB county.

3/27/2020

It’s Friday,

I know that does not mean the same any longer, but for me it is still a good thing.

The wind last night is now over and the weather is calming down.

The system that took its time moving though is now in the San Diego area. As forecast it really did not do much for rainfall. Ojai was the winner with .12.

3/26/2020

Good Thursday morning,

I hope everyone is waking virus free. Today that low pressure system is now moving into our area.

This is going to bring scattered showers to the area, with a northwest flow.

This means areas like Santa Barbara will be in a rain shadow due to our local mountains.

Areas in the central coast and Santa Ynez stand a better chance for rain.

3/25/2020

Good Wednesday morning,

Our weather the entire month of March has been quite active.

The next 2 days will be no different, but rain totalS will be on the lighter side.

This is due to the showery nature of this next system.

Right now the low pressure system is moving into Northern California from Oregon.

This is a colder system with snow levels dropping to 3000 over night Wednesday.

COVID-19

As more cases of COVID-19 (the novel coronavirus) are confirmed in Santa Barbara County, we want to assure you that Action Roofing and our affiliate companies, Action Energy and Beyond Heating and Air, are doing everything we can to prevent potential exposure to our clients and our employees. We are communicating daily with our employees to ensure they are as “up to date” as they can be and are continuing to practice safe operations. We are closely following the CDC guidelines and are currently listed as an essential business in the most recent Governor’s executive order.

3/23/2020

Good Monday morning,

It was a good storm Sunday afternoon and through the night.

Rain totals were good with most areas seeing around 1 inch of rain, with San Marcos Pass getting 2.18 inches and Montecito with 1.25 inches.

https://www.cnrfc.noaa.gov/images/countyPrecipMaps/santabarbara_24HRprecip.png

This system is now moving East and leaving us with light showers only. Showers should taper to almost none in the afternoon.

3/22/2020

Good Sunday morning,

Rain is on the way, you will have till around 2 pm, before dry turns to wet.

Low pressure is still 350 miles off point conception, so rain will stay away until the afternoon for Santa Barbara.

Rain in north county will start earlier, likely by noon.

3/20/2020

Good Saturday morning,

What a week we have had. Trying to keep up with all the Action on and off the weather front.

Today I need to get caught up with the weather since I was distracted yesterday trying to figure out if it was work as normal for the construction industry.

Thankfully it is essential according to California state government, as it should be.

Now the weather, there has been a lot of Action this past week. We certainly welcome the rains.

3/19/2020

Good Thursday morning,

It really is not that bad….This crazy world we live in. At least some of us are sane…. I know I am….Not locked in my house…

Today is the first day of Spring, the smell of the flowers is going to make you all smile…..

Weather wise, that low that has been hanging around is now drifting south from the northeast.

3/18/2020

Good Wednesday morning,

It is chilly out there this morning. 32 degrees in Santa Ynez. It looks like we are going to see a few days of sunshine with shower possibilities in between.

The large low that influenced our weather Monday and Tuesday has split in 2 pieces. 1/2 is over Baja and moving slowly East.

This might cause a little rain in the LA area tonight. The other 1/2 is over Nevada and will drift towards us on Thursday.

3/17/2020

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Good Tuesday morning,

What a great day in Santa Barbara it was on Monday. The test truly came yesterday with Montecito receiving 3.5 inches of rain in 24 hours and all the streams and creeks flowed perfect.

It was close at one point and CHP was poised to close the 101, but the rain began to back off. Romero Canyon received 1 inch of rain in 30 minutes which started the Rise of the creeks and stream.

3/16/2020

Good wet Monday morning,

Pretty impressive looking low pressure system to the north over the Bay Area.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12

This is bringing us pre-frontal rain this morning, before the low continues it southward.

Movement. Today will pretty much be rainy all day, with heavier rain moving in north to south. Right now the central coast is feeling the heavier rain, here in SB this will arrive in the next few hours, Ventura late morning to noon and LA in the afternoon.

https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=radar_cr&list=VBX_7.png,VBX_6.png,VBX_5.png,VBX_4.png,VBX_3.png,VBX_2.png,VBX_1.png,VBX_0.png

Rain rates will be at a peak of 1/2 per hour. With rain totals .75 to 1.5 coastal and up to 3 inches in the mountains. Tonight the snow levels drop to 3500 feet and local mountains will see 4 to 8 inches. Tuesday the front opens and our weather changes from steady rain to showers. You will even see some sunshine on Tuesday.

3/15/2020

Good Sunday morning,

Rain, Rain, Rain. Well we asked for it and it is here now.

This rain is what Seattle gets all the time. No huge amounts, but enough to keep you indoors. This is also why I moved out of there…… rain Saturday was spotty again with 1/2 to 1/10 in total.

https://www.cnrfc.noaa.gov/images/countyPrecipMaps/santabarbara_24HRprecip.png

Today more of the same. No heavy downpours just a Seattle like rain.

Tonight a low pressure system, in Seattle of course, drops south into the Bay Area.

3/14/2020

Good Saturday morning,

Lets stick with weather and leave the other to deal with the other stuff.

Friday was a pretty interesting day with light rain a lot of the day. Oddly enough, there was no rain in Santa Ynez and Santa Barbara got .40 on Friday.

All in all the rain totals are adding up, and we still have only higher chances for rain for the next week.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.70181279443206&lat=34.43364484949802

Pretty good numbers for the past week, and now the ground is pretty saturated.

https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/getlocal.php?prod=LAXRRMSBA

This will be good news for the rains all next week. Even if we do not really know how much we will see….What we do know so far…..

3/13/2020

Happy Friday the 13th. Not sure if I even want to be near the stock market after the beating, it has taken this week. But Friday the 13th is a lucky day for them so far, with DOW up 1000 points.

As far as weather goes, finally that cut off low is moving out of the area. Now centered over the California – Arizona border. We are still having a chance of wrap around moisture through this morning.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12

3/12/2020

Good Thursday morning,

Wow what a week for weather and that Virus…..sporting events gone.. Wow!!!

Weather wise, quite an interesting system that has been hanging around all week. It is South of us at around LAX.

The low is going to move East today and ramp up the rain chances again. Looks like late morning, early afternoon we will see wrap around moisture mainly over the mountains, but will likely spill into our coastal areas since they are so close. So expect more rain today…

3/11/2020

Good Wednesday morning,

As we all know, the rain kicked in yesterday finally after the mis-behaved cut off low finally moved in. “that Bad child is grounded“

The low created quite a mix of weather yesterday with heavy downpours to sunshine. “I felt like I was back in Hawaii”

Because this is exactly how the weather was there. Today is really no different with the movement of the low. It is just floating out there.

3/10/2020

Good Tuesday morning,

Yes, the rain finally arrived. My rain alarm was walking into my office at 4am with Pearl being wet. So I knew the rain was starting.

What can we say about cut off lows. They are a forecaster pain in the ……

They tend to spin and move as they please. This one is 400 miles west of point conception now. It was forecast to be 350 miles west yesterday .50 mile makes a big difference. Regardless the rain event is now here. This of course is fueled by the subtropical moisture. This you can see with the yellow color on the satellite.

3/9/2020

Good Monday morning,

As sunrise approaches, so does rain for SLO and northern SB county.

The rain is just starting up in Lompoc and will spread over the areas in the next few hours.

https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=radar_cr&list=VBX_7.png,VBX_6.png,VBX_5.png,VBX_4.png,VBX_3.png,VBX_2.png,VBX_1.png,VBX_0.png

The low pressure system does look quite impressive, but is spinning 600 miles west of point conception.

3/8/2020

Good Sunday morning,

Waking up and looking at the different clocks is a challenge. Which ones are right?

Walking outside will tell you it is really an hour earlier, because it is still dark at 6:30 am.

The rain on Saturday was more wide spread then we were expecting. Carpinteria received .26 and Santa Barbara .00.

Other areas were also all over the board. I guess if you averaged all areas, the 1/10 of an inch was just about right on.

3/07/2020

Good Saturday morning,

Wow, when was the last time you saw a graphic like this:

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?x=192&y=118&site=lox&zmx=&zmy=&map_x=192&map_y=118

It certainly is a nice sight to see. Bring on the rain……

Today we will have basically a gloomy day, with fog and drizzle. Maybe a little light rain…Temps will also be on the cool side in the 60s.

Tonight the weak low pressure system moves east and we will have a dry Sunday.

Sunday, a slight warm up and we will likely see some sun.

Sunday night the cut-off low that has been advertised for the past week will begin to move towards us.

3/6/2020

Good Friday morning,

Here we are at the end of the work week, we will see a cooler weekend, then rain.

7-Day Forecast

Starting out today, the marine layer has blanketed over us. Fog will likely hang in most of the day, keeping us cooler.

Tonight the weak low pressure system to the north drops over us. This will bring a deeper Maine layer and some drizzle possible Saturday morning.

3/5/2020

Good Thursday morning,

The marine layer has descended upon us, creating fog 1800 feet and below.

The marine layer will burn off around lunch time and we will see cooler temps today.

To the south, a weak off shore flow still exists, so some warming there.

Friday will be a carbon copy of today with some fog and cooler temps in the 60s.

3/3/2020

Good Tuesday morning,

Yes, morning came early after 4 hours of sleep, but it is nice to be home ….I think!!!

Today the forecast is all about the off shore flow and Santa Ana winds. This will make for a warm day in LA and Santa Ana wind prone areas.

Some areas will reach the low 80s. For us, we are looking at mid 70s, but a great overall day.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.6575927734375&lat=34.44202613062484

Wednesday off shore flow to start, then onshore in the afternoon. This will bring back the marine layer.

3/2/2020

Good Monday morning,

Yes, I am late today with the forecast. I need to get back on California time….

Sunday provided the first rain in sometime. The rain totals came in .15 to .20 depending on where you live.

The rain is over and we are ready to warm up again for the week. Each day out, temps will rise and high pressure and off shore flow builds in again.

3/1/2020

Marching into a new month…..

As the first day of March arrives, we have a chance for some rain. Sadly it is not a storm that we want with only light rain in the forecast.

This low pressure system also will bring us cold air, lowering our snow levels to 2500 feet tonight and Monday morning.
