6/28/19
Good Friday morning,
The weekend is upon us…..and the foggy weather is improving for us.
High pressure over the 5 corners will squash the marine layer for the weekend.
This will heat up inland valleys and reduce the fog period along the coast.
Everyone will see sunshine with the exception of some high clouds from tropical storm Alvin Looking in the pacific.
There are 2 areas that stand out. Hawaii and Cabo. You can see some red blobs popping from the subtropical moisture.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
For us, just typical early summer weather. Fair along the coast with night and morning fog, burning off in the early afternoon, and inland valleys heating up into the 80s and 90s.
If you want to bake, just drive over the pass.
Typical weather prevails through the weekend with the exception of what happens to Alvin. He will drift north and create some high clouds and maybe some sprinkles into the weekend.
Next week, not much weather excitement. Little low pressure system on Wednesday will deepen the marine layer. Other than that…no Action ….
The 4th of July is 6 days away. Looks like decent weather, but some coastal fog.
Ok, I am off to Cabo San Lucas, for the week….
I will write updated forecasts remotely. If anything exciting happens here, send me pictures ….
Have a great weekend ….
6/27/19
Good Thursday morning,
Look outside, we have a sunrise the we can see in Santa Barbara. This is a treat for us, and really just us.
Santa Ynez, Ventura and most other locations are starting out with low clouds. Clearing there will come quickly.
High pressure has pushed into the south which is keeping the dome of high pressure over us.
Low pressure over Oregon is being pushed to the north into Washington. The only affect for us will be some evening sundowner winds.
This should occur in the Refugio and gavoita area, but could affect us in SB and Goleta. Winds tonight and Friday night around sundown.
Weather wise, we are looking at more sunshine and less fog, through Tuesday at this point.
Temps will be on the rise also. Saturday we might even get to 80 along the coast and 90s in the valleys.
This will make everyone happy this weekend.
Next week looking out towards the 4th of July, is looking fair with night and morning low clouds.
The only funk in the forecast is some mid to high clouds that are pushing up from the Cabo San Lucas area.
Check it out:
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
This is from the first tropical storm “Alvin. “ We will see if this continues its northward push into the weekend.
Computer models never have a handle on systems to our south. We will watch it and see.
Ok that’s the excitement, enjoy the sunshine.
6/26/19
Good Wednesday morning,
Another day of drizzle. That will make 3 days in a row of measurable drizzle.
That is quite unusual, even for June. When we look back over the record books for 2019 there is going to be a lot of things that jump out for the rain season.
The good news is, the worst will be over after today. We will actually start to see the sun again in the afternoons.
Temps will begin to climb back to normal by the weekend.
Still quite a bit of Action in the Pacific. There is a low pressure system in the Pacific Northwest.
Good rain near Hawaii, the first tropical depression near Cabo, but harmlessly spinning in the pacific.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/wv-l.jpg
For us, just more fog and drizzle today. The marine layer is 2900 feet thick.
This will make for a very cool foggy, wet day. We will likely not see clearing along the coast from Malibu to Santa Barbara.
In the valleys, the sun should peak out in the afternoon.
Thursday we start to have some off shore affects, this will thin the marine layer and sun will prevail in the afternoons.
Friday will be a repeat of Thursday.
The weekend will allow more sun. Valleys will be sunny and climb into the 80s.
Coastal, still morning clouds, but sun will arrive by noon.
Next Tuesday a weak low arrives. Just a thicker marine layer.
The 4th of July…..still more than 7 days away, so the forecast is not accurate. Night and morning low clouds is still a good bet.
Ok, the sun is rising soon, day light is on it way, but no sun for us today.
Enjoy.
6/25/19
Another wet start to the day.
It has been the dampest June I can remember. Every morning seems to start with drizzle, today is the same.
Streets are all wet again. This trend continues through the week.
Low pressure system is spinning over the pacific northwest, keeping the marine layer strong and temps chilly.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
No need for AC this week…you might need an umbrella this morning.
6/24/19
Good Monday morning,
What a treat we had on Saturday and Sunday. The sun started to peak out by 10 am. It made for a great day at the parade.
It was so much fun at the parade watching my 16 month old granddaughter loving the parade.
Today will be the same as yesterday. Sun will come out early and it will be a nice day. Summer weather is starting to arrive.
Tuesday, a weak low pressure system comes in. This means more fog and less sun.
All in all, there is no excitement in the forecast. We are getting into a normal June and early July pattern, with heating inland and fog and low clouds along the coast.
This is thanks to that big air conditioner in the ocean. This keeps the temps along the coast in the low 70s while inland temps are in the upper 80s and 90s. Where in our area there is no excitement, the first hurricane is ramping up in Mexico.
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=epac&fdays=5
Also take a look in the pacific. Some Action out there near Hawaii, lots of heavy rain popping up in parts of Hawaii.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Enjoy a nice seasonable week. Cooler along the coast and warmer inland.
6/21/19 Summer Solstice
Welcome to Summer… ( I think 🤔!)
Today is the longest day of the year, but it will be with day light, not sunshine if you live along the coast. Someday we will be able to go to vandenburg and rocket 3000 feet in the air to see the sun on this day. I guess we could go the the airport and do the same today. This season has been quite the change from what we have been used to over the past 5 years. June gloom has been over us most of the month and May Gray produced more rain then we have ever seen in history. The good news is it is the 21st of June, and truly the summer is coming. Around September we will all be wishing for a day like today.
Today, wet, damp, foggy, and cool is the forecast. 60 is the temp now and we will likely remain in the 60s all day with little to no clearing.
Saturday and the Parade, we will see fog, however, hopefully the drizzle will be gone.
Looks like fog will stick around well into the afternoon. The only sun that will shine on the parade will be from the laughter of all the people in and around the parade. If you have not been to the summer soloists parade. You are missing one of the best in the country. It is a total hoot and my favorite.
Sunday, inland areas begin to heat up. Coastal we will still see fog, maybe the sun can peek out in the afternoon.
Next week fog and low clouds continue, but we should see mid 70s with limited sunshine along the coast. Inland highs in the mid 80s with sunshine.
Enjoy the weekend, maybe I will see you at the parade. My grand daughter at 15 months will be with me at her first parade. Hope to see you there …
Have a great weekend!

6/19/19
Good gloomy Wednesday morning,
June gloom is at full strength. Streets are wet and fog is at 2500 to 3000 feet thick.
If you look at the satellite you would think we had clear skies, but coastal fog is blanketing the first 3000 feet.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
If you want warm and sunshine, go to palm springs. Check out the temps there. Amazing how a short distance can have a 30 to 40 degrees difference.
For today, we are starting out quite damp once again. Most streets are visibly wet.
If we are lucky, we will see clearing late in the day along the coast. Valleys will clear this afternoon.
Thursday, onshore flow deepens as another disturbance drops into the area. We will continue damp mornings and fog with pockets of drizzle. Temps remain quite cool along the coast, with only 60s as highs.
Friday more of the same. Pretty much a carbon copy of Thursday.
Saturday and into the weekend. The fog will thin and sunshine will prevail in the afternoons. Highs will be Sunday and will even climb to near average in the 70s along the coast and 80s in the valleys.
Monday, low pressure returns and June gloom sets up all over again.
6/18/19
Good Tuesday morning,
Take a look at the satellite. you can see the clouds passing over us today and creating a weak on shore flow. Also look way to the south in the southern pacific.
The tropical Action is beginning to arrive, but nothing as far as storms yet.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
3 days till summer solstice, Friday the 21st. Unfortunately it will not feel like summer on Friday in SB or most of California.
It will actually be the coldest day in the next 7. 5 to 10 degrees below normal.
The good news is on Saturday the sun should come out in the afternoon for the parade.
Today, more fog in the morning, but sun should peak out this afternoon thanks to a weak off shore flow. We might even see some puffy white clouds over the mountains.
Wednesday more of the same as today. Fog in the morning, then clearing in the pm.
Thursday, low pressure moves in again, deepening the marine layer. Fog will be along the coast most of the day.
Friday as advertised earlier, cold and foggy. The first day of summer will be winter like….
Saturday, parade day … looks like the weather starts to improve with mild off shore flow. That means sun will prevail earlier. Hopefully just on time for the parade.
Don’t miss it, it is always a blast!
Sunday another good day, with temps almost near normal and sun late morning.
Enjoy the nice cool work week.
6/17/19
Good Monday morning,
I hope everyone had a great Father’s Day weekend, to spite the damp weather here.
It looks like a typical June gloom week, with temps below normal and fog through the week.
Today will be more of the same, everything is wet out there this morning. Clearing will be slow and some coastal areas will not clear at all.
Tuesday, off shore flow arrives. This will lead to clearing earlier in the afternoons.
Wednesday will be the nicest day of the work week. Still fog in the morning, but earlier clearing.
Thursday and Friday, more June Gloom. It will be damp and foggy.
These 2 days will be the coolest over the next 7 days.
The weekend, summer Solstice parade is Saturday.
We will see a slight warm up, hopefully enough for the sun to lighten the fun parade. Always a hoot at this parade.
This is what the satellite looks like right now. Low pressure just to the east, bringing the fog over all areas.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
6/14/19
Happy Friday,
A big weekend ahead for grads and dads. UCSB will have their annual graduation outdoors.
Everyone attending will be happy to have fog and a cool weekend.
Today, the marine layer has increased to 2500 feet.
This will blanket the coastal and valleys this morning, keeping us cool with clearing later from the valleys to the coast.
Clearing will be tough in some coastal areas at all today. The one exception is the SB coast.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
Saturday and Sunday will be just like today. Coastal fog, then clearing later in the day.
Highs will be in the low 70s along the coast. Low 80s in the valleys. Overall a typical June pattern.
Next week will start out the same, but Tuesday we should start to see more clearing With warmer temps and sunshine earlier in the day.
No excitement from the weather front in the next week, unless you look to the mid west. Ugly over there.
Congrats to all the Grads and Dads.
Enjoy your weekend!!
6/13/19
Good Thursday the 13th,
It was a welcome cooler day on Wednesday. This cooling trend will continue though Friday, then rebound slightly over the weekend.
Today we are looking at the marine layer at 1400 feet. This will drift into the valleys and keep everyone cooler today.
The marine layer will burn off in the valleys late this morning, then in SB in the afternoon.
This will cool us off more. Highs around 70 in Santa Barbara and inland in the low 80s. Overall perfect working weather.
Friday will be pretty much a carbon copy of today. Fog and cooler…
Grads and dads weekend!!
Expect a slight warm up, but typical June weather with fog and low clouds to start each morning.
This trend goes through Tuesday, then we are expecting a warm up and less of a marine layer into mid week.
No real excitement on the weather front.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
6/12/19
Good Wednesday morning,
What a great few days we have had, as we welcomed back summer like weather.
If you were as lucky as I was, you saw great summer like weather at the bowl last night, and what a show….
Train was fantastic….. going down as one of the 5 best shows I have ever seen there.
This morning, we are waking to fog.
This is a welcome relief to the heat we have experienced the past 3 days.
Everyone will cool a good 10 degrees today. Highs will be in the mid 70s coastal areas and around 90 in Santa Ynez.
That’s a lot better than 106 the past few days.
Looks like we will carry similar weather through the week and into the weekend.
Cooler temps, but seasonable. Low clouds in the coastal areas then clearing in the late mornings.
Summer is fast approaching. June 21st summer soloist is right around the corner.
Enjoy the relief…..
Have a great day.
6/11/19
Good Tuesday morning,
It is going to be another hot day, everywhere…
I feel like I must be on vacation, because the weather has done a 180 from what we have been used to. Yesterday it was down right hot in Santa Ynez with a high of 106.
Santa Barbara was also very warm in the upper 80s. Today is going to be another really warm day. Highs will be in the upper 80s and low 90s in SB. Valleys will also be hovering in the 100 degree area, however, cooling is on the way.
This will start overnight where there maybe some night and morning low clouds.
Wednesday, temps will drop back to normal with highs in the upper 70s coastal and 80s inland. All in all, nice weather through the week, with seasonable temps.
We will likely go back to night and morning low clouds then clearing.
Tonight for all the folks at the train concert, we will be in for a treat. Great weather for an outdoor show and of course great music….
see you there… line up is
Allen Stone 6:15 PM
Goo Goo Dolls 7:00 PM
Train 8:30 PM
Have a great day.
Summer Has Arrived 6/9/19
Good Sunday morning,
Summer is arriving.
What a great weekend so far, and the good news is it gets better and continues into midweek.
Saturday night was fantastic, it was the first time in quite awhile where you could sit outside and enjoy the evening and fantastic sunset…
If you are at the lake, you are in heaven. Highs in the upper 90s.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-120.92765092849733&lat=35.75932885298472#.XP52P4hKiUl
Along the coast, we will wake to a little fog, but it will burn off quickly. Highs will make it into the low 80s.
It is a beach day. Go and enjoy it….
In the Santa Ynez valley, a great day also. Highs in the low 90s. Great for wine tasting at the vineyards.
I love the setting at bridlewood winery… great outdoor spaces.
All in all, if you are in central or Southern California you can not go wrong. After a long rainy season, we are finally getting a well deserved break.
This is why we pay high prices for real estate here.
To start the week, Monday and Tuesday will be just like today. Just perfect ….
Tuesday night will be fantastic at the county bowl for the train Concert for the lucky ones that have tickets… see you there !!
Wednesday and Thursday a low pressure system brings a deeper marine layer and cools us off Friday into the UCSB graduation weekend. We will return to normal temps and warm up.
Restaurant’s and state street will be packed with lots of grads family’s coming into town…
On top of tha, Sunday is Father’s Day. Busy weekend in SB.
Enjoy a fantastic Sunday.
6/7/19
Good Friday morning,
The weekend is upon us and you are going to like what I have to say…..
Today we will have typical night and morning low clouds and another damp start to the day.
Except if you are in SLO. You will have a nice sunny day, and warm.
Tonight in SB we will have a weak sundowner wind event, around 15 miles an hours….
Now the good news, you will need your sunscreen.
Sunshine is going to prevail for the next 3 days. It will also warm up and treat us to summer like weather.
We will be in the low 80s along the coast and 90s in the valleys. Some inland areas could even hit to 100 mark on Sunday.
For all you lake goers. This weekend will make up for the memorial weekend that was a bust….
Bring your hat and sunscreen…
Great weather will roll into your Monday.
Tuesday through Thursday looks like maybe some low clouds and fog, but over all fair.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
Enjoy a great sunny weekend, we all deserve it.
Go to bed early and roll out at day light at 5:45 am, you will like it !!!
6/6/19
Good Thursday morning,
Early start for me. 3am 🤔
Today Looks like we will have a repeat of yesterday. Highs in the low 70s coastal and low 80s in the valley.
Fog in the morning, then clearing in the early afternoon.
Tonight, a weak front moves in with colder air.
Friday, the coolest day in the next 7 days. Normal fog and clouds in the mornings.
Saturday and Sunday …. looks at the words. 🌞 sunny both days….
Next week Monday and Tuesday should also be nice, with fog and low clouds to start the day.
Wednesday, another weak front moves in.
Enjoy.
6/5/19
Good Wednesday morning,
We had a little treat late in the day Tuesday. I think it is called the Sun. It has been so long since we have had clearing and sunshine.
I almost forgot what it was.
Today we start out with the typical gray pattern in the morning. It does look like we should see some clearing later in the afternoon.
All in all, a fair day in the low 70s along the coast, Santa Ynez will be in the low 80s.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.69673156738277&lat=34.42956713470528#.XPe_DoplCfA
Thursday will be slightly warmer than today with same start as today. Gray, then sun in the later afternoon.
Friday, a weak low pressure system pushes in.
This will deepen the marine layer, in the afternoon the wind pushes in.
We will have a mild sundowner with winds of 15 miles an hour.
The Friday wind will be good for SB because it will drive the fog away.
Saturday should be clear all day in SB. Some fog and clouds in other coastal areas.
Sunday will also be nice, but fog may return to start the day then clear in the afternoon.
Next week looks to be fair to start the week.
Lets hope for some high pressure and off shore winds in our future. I am tired of these Seattle like days.
6/3/19
Good Monday morning,
Funky weather is almost done, and we will turn to normal June weather.
As the week progresses, we will have a warm up but the marine layer along the coast will stay around.
Yesterday we saw no sun, and a little rain. We recorded 1/100 of an inch.
Today the low is further south, over Orange County right now.
This will give us low clouds and fog, with a slight chance of afternoon showers.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
Tuesday, the low is out of the picture and high pressure builds in with temps rising and marine layer thinning to 1,000 to 1,500 feet.
This will allow valleys to warm up and coastal areas to have some afternoon sun.
Wednesday will be the warmest day.
Thursday, another low will just thicken the marine layer.
Thursday night maybe some sundowner winds.
Friday into the weekend seasonable weather With fog, and low clouds then clearing.
Enjoy your Monday, Happy Birthday to my brother Steve!!!!
6/2/19
Good Sunday morning,
Saturday was quite the interesting day. A few down pours in areas, other areas saw some drops. The skies were eye catching. All eyes were to the sky, looking to see if the white clouds turned to gray and rain.
Good news is that outdoor parties and wedding were not rained out.
Today that slow moving low will do the same thing as yesterday.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
We have a little of everything again today. Fog in the morning, then chance of thundershowers in the afternoon.
Monday, the low moves out of our forecast area. It will move into Arizona, then Colorado we will see what it does as it moves into the Midwest. It will be action packed later in the week.
For our area, we start to warm up Tuesday through Friday. Next weekend looks like another round of June gloom.
Enjoy your day.
June 1st, 2019
Here we go, a new month. Of course June is starting out with fog and drizzle this morning.
As you wake up, you will find it quite damp this morning. June is known as June gloom around these parts.
We are living up to it on the first day of the month.
More interesting weather for the weekend, as the low pressure has dropped almost right over us.
This is what is pulling in the marine layer:
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
Looks like the fog will stick around most of Saturday, along the coast at least.
Some clearing in the afternoon in the valleys, but it will be a cool day.
Highs will be in the upper 60s along the coast and low 70s in Santa Ynez.
Interesting pattern continues in the afternoon with chances of thunder storms in the mountains today and Sunday.
These will be a hit and miss. Best thing to do is keep your eyes in the sky.
SB has a 10% chance of rain, Santa Ynez a 20%. But that also means a 90% and 80% chance it will not rain.
Sunday looks to be a repeat of Saturday.
Monday, the low finally moves out, but the June gloom pattern remains along the coast.
Inland areas will begin a warm up. Expect 80s and 90s into mid week.
Next weekend looks like another low will give us more June gloom.
Enjoy your weekend, we can’t let Mother Nature stand in the way.
