June 2018

6/25/18 June 25th Forecast

Good Monday morning,

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. In Santa Barbara it was cool, windy and damp.

My bike ride yesterday was nothing to remember. Windy at the beach and drizzle on Mountain Dr. I needed windshield wipers on my glasses.

At least the sun finally broke out for a few hours on Sunday afternoon

Inland was a different story. You had nice warm days. June gloom was all over Santa Barbara.

High pressure building back in today.

  http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

This will keep the Santa Ynez valley warm. Santa Barbara will still see fog in the morning, but sunshine in the afternoons.

Looks like some sundowner winds tonight in Gaviota and western Goleta. SB should be spared.

All in all, a week of typical early summer weather.

As I mentioned yesterday, southern Mexico has lots of Action. With 3 to 4 tropical depressions out there. These are moving west and are not a threat for land.

Still it is interesting to see so much action this early in the season.

Have a great week, I will check back in here and there.

06/21/18 Happy Summer Solstice

Yes, we are here. The next 2 days will be the longest days of the year. With that, our weather is going to be very summer like, especially inland.

This time of your daylight starts around 5 am and gets dark at almost 9 PM.

Here are some fun facts

Sunrise and sunset for Santa Barbara today is 5:47 am – 8:14 PM

Sunrise and sunset for Seattle, Wa                      5:21 am – 9:11 PM

Sunrise and sunset for Anchorage, Al                 4:20 am – 11:43 PM

Sunrise and sunset for Juno, Al                            3:07 am – 12:35 am

That’s 24 hours of day light!!!!

Regarding our local weather

There are not any changes from the last report. We have nice weather through mid-week the 27th of June.

Coastal areas will see night and morning low clouds, clearing by 10 or 11am. With highs in the upper 70s.

Inland will really heat up. Temps well above normal through the period. Highs in the 90s to over 100 in areas.

Enjoy the summer weather. Don’t forget the Solstice celebration this weekend.

Always fun in SB.

6/20/18 Good Wednesday Morning

I just love this time of year. It is so nice to wake to day light at 5 am and it remains until 8:30 plus.

Yes, I has to be summer solstice soon. Thursday is the 21st and the longest day of the year. Don’t forget the parade this weekend. It is always a hoot.

Weather-wise, it is summer. All inland areas are heating up to be 90s and some 100s. Coastal we will have 80s with a few night and morning fog. It will burn off by late morning.

Great weather through Monday of next week, at least.

Here is how it looks in the sky.

Enjoy the beginning of summer.

Great weather here.

6/18/18 Back to Work Monday

Good Monday morning,

I hope everyone had a great Father’s Day. I know I did…

The light rain yesterday was interesting. Came down pretty good for an hour or so. It is quite the opposite this morning.

Today low pressure has left us and high pressure is building in. This week we will see a warming trend especially inland. Santa Ynez will raise temps as each day goes forward.

The satellite shows just clear skies on California.

  http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

For us, local high pressure is building in. That means some mild sundowner winds the next 2 nights in Santa Barbara. This will kick the fog away and leave us sunny mornings.

For the valleys, it will heat you up into the 80s and 90s as the week goes on. Coastal expect high 70s and low 80s.

This pattern should continue through the week, so no more light rain in our forecast.

Just sun and warmer though the week.

Have a great week, we will see you around town.

6/15/18 Friday is Here, Amen for That!

Lots of Action in the pacific. Take a look at the huge low in Alaska, and also the one spinning around off our coast. This will affect our weather this weekend.

Then look south at Cabo. Tropical storm Bud is just a hangover for the Baja. Last look further south, a few more tropical disturbances are brewing….

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

For us, we will focus on the low hanging off our coast. This will bring us much cooler weather though the weekend. Looks like we could even see a little drizzle Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Inland and Santa Ynez, temps are really going to be impacted, with highs in the 70s during the day and 50s even some 40s at night.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-120.04668474197386&lat=34.59138909362157#.WyOrRKdKhPZ

Coastal areas of SB will remain in the low 70s, but plenty of low clouds with afternoon clearing. Then saturday night will remain warmer, because of the fog.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.69686881266533&lat=34.42548916566115#.WyOrbadKhPY

All in all, a perfect weekend for UCSB grads and parents. I remember being in the scorching heat when my son graduated. Dressed up, that’s no fun.

Don’t  forget Father’s Day is on Sunday. It will be foggy in the morning, then clear to sunshine in the afternoon.

For me, a special Father’s Day. In my family we have 2 new dad’s celebrating their first Father’s Day. The better news is they will all be in SB for the weekend.

If you’re in Cabo, after 24 hours of lots of rain, sunshine prevails.

This gets you caught up now. Hope everyone enjoys there weekend.

6/14/18 Thursday Update

Good Thursday morning,

It is very damp out there today, with more dampness to come.

Today the on shore flow is deepening the marine layer. Some mist out there along the coastal areas.

Inland areas, this will be the last day for warmer temps, as cold air arrives from the north.

It looks like we will have damp mornings each day starting Friday, with possible drizzle Friday and Saturday. Clearing will come in the afternoons.

Sunday looks like the last day of cooler temps. High pressure builds back in on Monday.

This weekend will be cooler with highs in the mid 70s inland, and around 70 coastal.

If you look at the satellite you will see tropical storm Bud moving into Cabo. The rain started there at 2 am and is coming down hard according to my weather spotter David. The good news is winds are down to 45 miles an hour and the airport is still open. It will be a shaky ride in, but if vacation is on your mind today, it will be nice by Friday afternoon or Saturday for sure.

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

On the Home front, grads and dads weekend. Santa Barbara will be a busy place. Enjoy the weekend, after damp morning it will be sunny and pleasant.

David, thanks for the update on the weather in Cabo. If anyone goes to Cabo, David owns a transportation company and has great guys. They will take you on day trips and pick you up from the airport in style.

Have a great weekend.

6/12/18 Tuesday Weather in SB and in Cabo

Good morning,

What a mess Cabo is right now. Huge swells are flooding the beach areas. Hurricane Bud is going to make the next 3 days ugly there.

For us, this will have no effect. We are actually perfect for today.

We will have highs today around 80 coastal and 90 inland.

Wednesday, we will start a cooling trend. The valleys will notice this the most. 90s for a high today, by Friday, highs will be in the 70s.

Each day will cool around 5 degrees. No rain, just cooler.

It should be a great father’s day weekend with highs in the 70s coastal, and low 80s inland.

Have a great day, if your planning a trip to Cabo this week, you might want to reconsider.

6/8/18 Yes, it is Friday

Good Friday morning,

It has been a long work week. The weather this weekend will be pleasant with some wind Saturday night.

Take a look at the satellite and look south to the lower Baja. There it is, the first hurricane of the year. Guess it is that time.

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

Also there is a second one brewing further to the south. This is moving northwest, so no threat to the coastline. maybe higher surf.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=epac&fdays=5

Local low pressure is passing through to the north and high pressure builds in on Sunday.

Looks to be an all in all nice weekend with highs in the 80s everywhere.

Saturday night pressure gradients will be strongest, so expect sundowner winds to 50 miles an hour.

Beyond some wind, the weekend over all should be quite nice.

Enjoy and have a great weekend.

6/6/18 Good Wednesday Morning

Here we go again.

June gloom is in full swing, as you felt on Tuesday. More moisture in the air this morning.

The funny part is I can see drizzle when I get up in the darkness, because my outdoor cameras show the droplets in the lens.

Looks like one more day of this, then improvement begins on Thursday.

  http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

Less on the way of marine layer Thursday, as the low moves east.

High pressure begins to build in Friday. This will set up a warming trend for the weekend. We should see some low 80s coastal and inland areas will warm back up as well, approaching the 90s.

All in all, the good news is the weekend should be sunny and warm. This weather is perfect for the work week. Then bring on the warmer for the weekend.

Go Warriors tonight. It is a must win for the Cavs.

Have a great day, love 5 am light in the mornings.

6/5/18 Forecast Update

Good Tuesday morning,

Not much to talk about from the weather front on Monday, so no forecast went out.

Today, I thought I would give a quick update.

There is a low pressure system moving in through Wednesday. This will do nothing more than cool us down and bring on the marine layer.

All in all, fair weather all week with typical night and morning low clouds.

The weekend also looks to be fair with no real excitement in the forecast.

Here is what it looks like from the sky.

  http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

Have a great day.

6/4/18 Remembering Back to January 9th

I was reading this article today..

https://www.noozhawk.com/article/post_disaster_surveys_expose_failures_warning_messages_evacuations_20180602?utm_source=Noozhawk%27s+A.M.+Report&utm_campaign=fba2e150ad-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_01_11_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_cb376aba6e-fba2e150ad-247120877

Basically it stated that people that lived in Montecito were not properly informed and warned about what the storm could bring.

It is very interesting to read back and see what I was saying.

Crazy to read this after almost 5 months later…….

I remember on Saturday night, the 7th of January, my niece got engaged and I was talking to one of her good friends who had just had a baby. She lived up against the creek at olive mill road.

I told her “DO NOT SAY AT HER HOUSE ON MONDAY NIGHT”  3:30 am I woke up and the first thing I did was text her and said are you ok? She texted back and said she stayed at her parent’s house.

I was relieved.

Crazy to think back on this nightmare.

6/1/18 Good Friday Morning

Are you ready for a great weekend? Sunny and warm. Really warm inland.

Today we will start out with lots of sunshine. This is thanks to the sundowner winds that blew around 7 pm last night.

I was watching the NBA final on my deck, and the wind came up and made me move inside.

“Go Warriors!” they are so much fun to watch.

  http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

High pressure is building in for the weekend. This will warm us up each day.

For those in Santa Barbara, 80s will be the norm. The Santa Ynez valley will see 90s then upper 90s by Sunday.

The lake and Palm Springs will get to triple digits.

Today is June the first. June will start out with sunny days and no fog.

It is going to be a great weekend. Sunday June 3rd is going to be the warmest day.

For my Brother Steve’s birthday, it will be perfect.

For the start of next week, nothing exciting. Just typical weather. No threats of anything in sight.

In the meantime, have a great weekend, and wish Steve a happy birthday …
