July 2020

07/30/2020

Good morning,

If you looked outside you would never think we were getting ready for a heat wave.

This morning it is very damp along the coast with some drizzle and wet patios.

The marine layer however is very low and clearing will come quickly.

High pressure and off shore flow will move in. High pressure over Arizona will move closer to us. As we know, this time of year is extremely hot in Arizona, so that will be our forecast the next few days.

Today will be the start of the heatwave. This is going to affect all areas, coastal included.

Santa Barbara should hit 85 today and cooling will not come for a few days. Our evening will feel like you are on vacation in Cabo San Lucas or Hawaii. Lows tonight and Friday are likely to remain in the 70s at a lot of locations.

North winds will keep us warm at night as sundowner winds compress are air keeping us warm.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.64660644531249&lat=34.46014499023181#.XyLCcy0iefA

Friday will be quite warm, all areas will start with sunshine and temps will rise quickly for all. Highs will be in the 90s coastal and 100 in valleys. At night, winds look likely keeping us hot again Friday night.

Saturday will be another hot day, but a break will begin on Sunday.

Sunday, a break is not really going to make much of a mark, because highs will still be well above normal.

The start of next week should bring back the fog along the coast with onshore flow.

Ok, you are ready for the heat wave, see you at the beach.

Enjoy a summer vacation at home.

Good Wednesday morning,

We have 1 more day of seasonable and cooler weather, then the heatwave begins.

Today we will start out with typical low clouds, then the sun will warm us up.

Today we will see upper 70s coastal and upper 80s in the valleys.

https://www.weather.gov/lox

Thursday the heat event begins . It looks like Thursday you will wish you had A/C Thursday night.

Pressure gradient will create some north winds that will keep our temps over night is the 70s.

Some areas could even remain in the 80s.

Friday and Saturday it is heat on.

Looks like 90s to 100 both days. Even SB will remain hot with the off shore winds.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.phplon=-119.70401002652943&lat=34.42095800927851

Some hot locations will be well over 100 degrees.

Sunday, on shore will make a come back, but don’t expect a relief. It will still be hot.

Monday and Tuesday the marine layer will likely build back in, giving us some relief.

Mid week we are looking at a sundowner wind event that will warm us up again and create winds in SB.

Ok get ready for a heat wave, hope your AC is working good.

Good Tuesday morning,

As we are all aware, the weather has been pretty boring this time of year, so I have to lead with this video.

Thought you would get a kick out of this. A bear in Montecito?  He came up to say hi to our gatehouse at the Club. Huge Black bear! At Birnamwood.

Click the link: https://youtu.be/Y-AxpPbDQuc

Thanks John, that’s crazy.

Now for the weather, certainly not as exciting as the Bear.

If you are looking for warmer weather and sunshine, you will like this forecast. Today through the week will get warmer day by day.

Highs are going to be in the upper 70s along the Coast and warm up to the mid 80s for the weekend.

In the valleys, if you like the heat, then this is yours. Upper 80s today and shift into the mid 90s by the weekend.

Going to lake Nacimiento, you will need shade. Well over 100 degrees there.

Ok that’s the excitement for the day.

Thanks Again John, that video was incredible.

Good Monday morning,

Here we go, the last week in the month of July. I hope everyone is Healthy and well.

As we start a new work week, we will see our typical morning low clouds and fog in the morning along the coast.

The fog, however, will thin out this week and we will have a slow warm up through the week. Coastal all week will see upper 70s and valleys upper 80s.

Over in Hawaii, Douglas is clearing out after sweeping through the islands yesterday.

Have a great week.

Good Saturday morning,

Fog rolled in around 5 am, 1100 feet thick. It was clear when I woke  up.

Today we will just see typical weather we have seen for the past 2 weeks.

The real story of the weekend is going to be in Hawaii as the hurricane Douglass is approaching.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12

The sun will break here around noon again and we should see sunny and slightly warmer.

Sunday we should see clearing a little sooner and warmer temps in the mid 70s coastal and mid 80s in the valleys.

Next week will be nice Monday. Similar to Sunday.

Tuesday through the week we will have typical fog and then sun with just nice weather.

Enjoy the weekend!

07/24/2020

Good Friday morning,

Yesterday felt more like a January day then a July day. The high for the day stayed in the 60s along the coast with fog lingering most of the day.

Today we are starting out with fog again, but clearing should come earlier today.

Most areas will see the sun by late morning. Temps will rise into the low 70s, but still remain below normal, so the streak of unseasonable cool weather continues.

The weekend will bring a slight warm up, but temps will still remain below normal.

Sunday looks to be the best beach day with earlier clearing and warmer temps.

Next week, we are looking for a warm up as high pressure builds in. Finally we will move back to temps at season norms and above.

Take a look at the satellite. In the left corner you will see hurricane Douglas moving towards the Hawaiian Islands. This will begin to affect the islands at the end of the weekend. Hawai’i might be trying to keep COVID out with testing, but can’t control the Douglas.

Have a nice weekend!

And Stay healthy!

07/23/2020

Good Thursday morning,

A little damp out there this morning, with some local drizzle as expected.

Today we should have a pretty cloudy day with highs only reaching around 70 along the coast.

Inland valleys will also remain cooler with highs in the upper 70s.

Beyond that, the Friday should be another cloudy cool day, before we get a gradual warm up through the weekend.

Here is a cool shot of the comet sent by mark from Oregon, thought I would share.

Good Wednesday morning,

Ever since I started using the dates in my subject line, I always remember dates daily.

Yesterday, high clouds started to stream in and it made for just a fantastic sunset.

No TV needed last night, the show was in the sky.

Today and really the next 7 days will be cooler, with below normal temps everywhere.

Even the hot spots like Paso will be in the 80s. Along the coast we will remain in the lower 70s.

Let’s look a little closer today, low pressure has brought back the marine layer at around 1200 feet.

This means clearing a little later with most coastal areas seeing sun by the afternoon.

Highs in the low 70s, coastal and low 80s in the valleys.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=psw&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Thursday is easy. A carbon copy of today. Temps remain well below normal, especially in the valleys. Friday will start out with normal fog and low clouds, then we will begin a very slow warm up through the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday will bring warmer days, but temps will still stay below normal for this time of year.

Expect the fog to remain in the coastal areas, burning off late mornings.

Monday we will see temps rise to just about normal for this time of year, but no heatwave here in Southern California.

Bottom line, there is not a lot of excitement in the weather.

Tonight, look for the comet ☄️, it will be 6500 years,  before you see this one again.

Look to the northwest just after sunset.

Have a great day!

Good Tuesday morning,

Another great sunset last night, I could even see the comet ☄️ last night.

The best viewing will be Wednesday night, mark your calendar for 8:30 Pm and look to the northwest.

Sundowner winds blew last night in Goleta to Gaviota. This is providing clearer skies for Santa Barbara, other areas have the marine layer at 1200 feet.

Today will be a nice day with seasonable temps. Highs in the 70s to 80s in the valleys.

On Wednesday, low pressure moves into the Bay Area, this will create a cool down and more fog along the coast.

Pockets of drizzle is also likely in some locations. These conditions will cool us down with temps in the low 70s.

Friday, we will start a slow warming trend. This will get us back to normal by Monday.

It looks like thicker fog Friday, but it will thin as the weekend progresses.

Have a great Tuesday.

Jack Martin

07/20/2020

Good Monday morning,

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Starting the week we will be affected by an approaching low pressure system out of the northwest.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12

Today will be a carbon copy of Sunday, but the burn off of the fog will be around any hour later than yesterday.

Expect to see sun in the valleys between 9am and 10am, coastal we will see sun 11 to noon.

Tonight we will have some sundowner winds, mainly Goleta to Gaviota. This should warm the skies a few degrees.

Tuesday the fog thickens and clearing will be later in the day. By Wednesday we will be fogged in with even some pockets of drizzle.

Thursday, the low moves East and it looks to be replaced with another low.

It looks like we will see fog and low clouds all week With clearing in the afternoons . highs in the 70s coastal and 80s in the valleys all week. Just perfect weather from my perspective.

The weekend looks to be more of the same, with temps remaining around normal for this time of the year.

Here is a great photo by Mark yesterday on his morning Hike.

Good Thursday morning,

Tax day finally arrived yesterday and we get to move on now.

Today we will see another cooler day with fog and low clouds along the coast.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Friday, as we approach the weekend, we are looking at a warm up for the inland areas at least.

Coastal areas will continue to see fog, but clearing will occur quicker.

Saturday, expect warmer temps in the valleys with temps into the upper 80s, coastal nice with upper 70s and easier clearing.

Sunday the warm up continues. Next week more of the same, but cooling a little and morning fog returns along the coast.

Enjoy a great weekend vacation here for locals!

Jack Martin

7/14/2020

Good Tuesday morning,

Looks like we will see June like weather the next 3 days.

If you look at the satellite you can see the low pressure system flowing over us:

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12

This is going to result in cooler days over today through Thursday.

Fog along the coast and much cooler inland.

This will result in great working weather over the rest of the week.

Friday through the weekend, looks to bring us a nice warm up with temps rebounding and less fog along the coast.

Enjoy the break, we love fog.

Jack Martin

7/13/2020

Good Monday morning,

I hope everyone had a great weekend, where is was hot everywhere but along the coast. It looks like there is some relief for inland areas.

You can see a weak low starting it’s way of us. This will begin to cool all inland areas, along the coast we will just to begin to see a little more fog again.

The areas that will feel the change will be the locations that saw 90s and 100s. They will cool into the 80s Tuesday through Thursday.

Also if you take a look at the satellite, you can see Cristina all the way out by the Hawaiian islands moving west.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12

Today we start out with sunshine in Santa Barbara, with just some pockets of fog along the coast. Temps will remain warm today everywhere.

SB around 80, valleys 90.

Tuesday the cool down begins, a little more fog along the coast and low 80s in the valleys. Coastal will remain in the mid 70s.

Wednesday we will have a repeat of Tuesday. Cooler with fog breaking late morning or early afternoon.

Thursday the low moves out and a warm up begins.

Friday we are looking for a warm up though the weekend.

Have a great week, we love the idea of a cool down in the valleys especially.

Jack Martin

07/10/2020

Good Friday morning,

Looking outside you will see the biggest air conditioner in the world. The pacific ocean is keeping the coastal areas cool till 10 am.

It is going to be a hot weekend, the place to be is in the white zone: https://www.weather.gov/lox/

If you like hot, then head to the red zones.

Lake Nacimiento will be over 100 every day. Valleys and foothills you need to be near a pool 90s to 102.

The coastal areas great beach weather, that’s where you will find me when I get a break from work. Looks like 80 to 85.

If you are going to the shore (Jersey shore) you are going to have a wet weekend with a Category 1 hurricane Fay.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at1.shtml?start#contents

To the south of us there is another Hurricane in Mexico, but drifting harmlessly to the north west. Maybe some surf for us.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_ep5.shtml?start#contents

Next week we will have a little cool down. It is summer time, where we don’t see a lot of changes.

Have a great weekend!

Jack Martin

7/09/2020

Good morning from Santa Barbara,

It is always nice to be back to Home. Here we are gearing up for a warm up.

This pretty much spells it out for the next 6 days:

https://www.weather.gov/lox/

It is going to be Hot.

Some fog this morning, but after this morning it should not be much of a factor.

Looks like 80s coastal, 90s valleys and the lake and other areas 100s.

Just in time for the weekend.

Enjoy.

Jack Martin

7/07/2020

Good Tuesday morning,

Waking up to this view will never get old. Starting out the day here it is around 77 degrees at sunrise.

Cabo720201

The fishermen are heading out, and I am typing the weather report.

Cabo720202

Back In SB, you are rising to another view. All in all, still a nice one.

There will be some cooling the next 2 days, with a little fog at times.

By the end of the week, the heat returns to the inland areas and expect near 100 in the valleys.

There is even a tropical storm, which will turn into a hurricane on Wednesday – Cristina.

Cabo720203

This will not do much, because it is going to be well to the west but over the weekend it could trigger some thunder storms on the deserts.

All in all, we will have typical summer like weather.

Enjoy.

Jack Martin

7/02/2020

Good Thursday morning,

Waking to fog once again….. it is actually a great thing as far as I am concerned. I love holding the sun back until after lunch time.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Today we will begin a warming trend in the valleys as high pressure begins to move in from the south. This will only increase temps a few degrees today.

Friday valley areas will really start to warm up into the mid to upper 80s. Coastal areas will see continued fog in the morning and mid 70s.

Saturday the 4th will be warm inland, if your heading to the lake you will be in for hot weather with 100 degrees likely.

Valleys in the 90s and coastal upper 70s.

Beyond that, no excitement.

Typical July weather, with maybe a little tropical systems approaching from Mexico…. some wave possible from the south….

Jack Martin

7/1/2020

Good Wednesday morning,

We are waking to a new month of July and the return of the fog monster.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Forecast wise, there are not many changes, so we will keep it short.

A few low pressure systems will keep us cooler today.

Thursday, high pressure begins to build from the south and will warm the valleys up. High pressure continues to warm the valleys through the weekend. Highs will get into the 90s in the santa ynez valley and Patty’s house. Santa Barbara will remain in the 70s with typical fog in the mornings. Saturday and Sunday nights will likely bring some sundowner winds. This will likely clear the fog away.

Have a great day,

Jack Martin
