January 2016

1/28/16 Weekend Rain/ Pearls Birthday

Good morning,

The week is moving right along.  Only a few days left in Jan.  Thursday Jan 28th once again the month flew by.  Today is a special day for Pearl “Her 2nd birthday”… Maybe a big meaty dog bone for her.

As far as the weather goes, rain is looking good for the weekend. A matter of fact the models are agreeing that we will have a pretty good storm.

Rain will start over night on Saturday into Sunday. Heavy rain will fall on Sunday morning.

It is looking like the subtropical jet will sag off us and bring us good rainfall. Looking like 1 to 3 inches in the mountains and 1/2 to 2 inches at the coast.

Next week things clear out on Monday. Another weak system on Wednesday, although jury is out on that one for now.

In the meantime we still have 2 days of nice weather, Saturday is a transition day. Then good rain storm Sunday…

Have a great day… Happy birthday Pearl. (only if she could read !!!)

1/26/16 Quick Report

What a great day Monday was. It felt like spring… Sunny and warm… Well if you liked yesterday then you are going to love the next 3 days..

Friday the changes begin. Off shore turns to onshore … 8 to 10 degrees cooler, but no rain

Saturday will also be cool and cloudy, rain may start Saturday night .

Sunday we will see rain for sure. Looks like a good system, depending on the model we will get 1/2 to 2 inches of rain…

Hopefully this will open the door for lots of rain the next week, or first week in Feb.

Enjoy the sunshine, rain will come back by the weekend

1/25/16 Warmer Weather

Good Monday morning ,

Here we go again. The last week in January 2016; One month flew by and 11 to go.

This week will be sunny and warm for at least the work week.

The rain Saturday fizzled out. It was interesting watching the satellite and clouds round point conception and disappears. Where we did not get more than wet streets, just to the north of us there was lots of rain in SLO.

This week we will all be dry, until at least Saturday.

Here is the scoop

Monday through Thursday warmer Santa Anna winds will bring us a great 4 days.

Friday high clouds begin to roll in as a trough approaches.

Saturday has possible rain later in the day. Models are not clear when the rain will start.

Sunday looks like rain for sure. The question is how much. One model says 1 to 2 inches and the other 1/10th to 2/10ths of an inch.

We will hope for 1 to 2 inches…

All the models will come together as the week goes on. In the meantime enjoy the great weather this week.

February is upon us. So El Niño should take shape this month….

Have a great week

1/22/16 Weekend Weather

Good morning all,

High clouds are filtering in, with rain to the north around SLO starting this morning.  (see current radar picture)

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=sat_16km&list=IR16.GIF.3.jpg,IR16.GIF.4.jpg,IR16.GIF.5.jpg,IR16.GIF.6.jpg,IR16.GIF.7.jpg,IR16.GIF.8.jpg

For us, it is a bit of a tug of war. High pressure is pushing the low to the north and the low is trying to push out the high. This will cause the low to stall the rain for us until late in the day. The low will win out in time (or at least that’s what the weather Gods say)

When the rain does arrive here in SB it will drop around 1/2 inch. Rain will likely start up after dark tonight…

It all should be over Saturday morning.

Saturday night will bring lots of wind… Especially on northwest faces. (Jacks backyard )

Sunday another weak front, but no rain.

Monday through Thursday now look sunny, dry and warm. A Santa Anna event will take over with warm temps getting into the 80s…. Yes, 80s in some areas….

Have a great weekend,

The rain and the warmth is going to make all those mountains a pretty green for your photos

Wednesday 1/20/16

Good Wednesday morning,

Well the rain was a nice treat. Rain totals were nice to come in on the higher end of the estimated totals. Everyone in the Santa Barbara area received 1/2 inch.

That’s not bad. However northern area in SLO and Paseo had 2 to 4 inches of rain. That will help San Antonio and Nac

It looks like we will have 2 to 3 dry days before we get more rain late on Friday afternoon. This next system does not have as much punch as the one yesterday. Expect 1/2 inch in northern areas and maybe 1/4in for us.

In the meantime, we have a few days to dry out. Next week is looking dry for the first half of the week at this point…

Have a good day.

1/19/16 Tuesday Update

Good Tuesday morning,

Yesterday’s storm gave us a whopping 1/10 of an inch…. Not the totals we wished for, but we will take what we get….

Today will be a carbon copy of yesterday, but rain totals will be much better.

Looks like rain will start up around 10 to 11 in the Santa Ynez Valley and noon for Santa Barbara.

We are looking at 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain today into tonight.

Wednesday and Thursday will be dry, sunny and warm…

Friday there is another system that will bring us rain. (You can see it on the satellite picture) this storm now seems to be slowing down and might not hit us until later in the day on Friday.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=sat_16km&list=IR16.GIF.3.jpg,IR16.GIF.4.jpg,IR16.GIF.5.jpg,IR16.GIF.6.jpg,IR16.GIF.7.jpg,IR16.GIF.8.jpg

We will watch this and decide if that holds true.

In the meantime, rain today will start up north to south. Rain is entering Paseo Robles right now. It will flow down the coast this morning, stretching into Ventura County this afternoon. It will lose its punch as it rounds point conception.

SLO and areas north will see much more rain, with totals of 1 to 1 1/2 inches.

We will get 1/4 to 1/2in. There is some southwest enhancement that will help enhance the rain in our neck of the woods.

Enjoy the rain, we need it all.

Nor Cal has had lots of rain lately, so that is helping the snow pack and drought. At least it is raining hard somewhere in California.

1/13/16 Quick Forecast

Ok a quick forecast today.

The tail end of a system is going to move through this morning

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=sat_4km&list=IR4.GIF.3.jpg,IR4.GIF.4.jpg,IR4.GIF.5.jpg,IR4.GIF.6.jpg,IR4.GIF.7.jpg,IR4.GIF.8.jpg

It does not look like a lot of rain. Maybe 1/10 of an inch.

Looks like dry weather Thursday, then another weak system into Friday – Saturday; again this one looks like it won’t bring much in rain.

Another system Monday into Tuesday, as for this one we are not sure what this one will do for rain, but looks at this point to be weak, like others.

1/7/16 How Sweet It Is

Now did yesterday live up to the wild weather I advertised? I loved that Hail storm. OMG I was on a roof with the rain and hail pounding on myself, Conor and Pedro.

We have made it to 4 inches in Santa Barbara over the last 2 days. How sweet is that???

yes

We have been looking forward to this weather for months now.

Today we will see scattered showers through at least noon. For us early risers (Lynn and I) know that it was raining when we woke up.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=sat_4km&list=IR4.GIF.3.jpg,IR4.GIF.4.jpg,IR4.GIF.5.jpg,IR4.GIF.6.jpg,IR4.GIF.7.jpg,IR4.GIF.8.jpg

Rain will continue on and off for the next 6 hours, then I think we will be pretty tapered out for 40 hours.

Friday should be a day to dry out, and access our yards. I need to drain my pool. It is ready to overflow. Anyone need some water !!!!

laughing smiley

Saturday we will see more rain. This is not a big system, but should drop us another 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain.

Sunday and Monday will be dry, then next week the models hint another system Tuesday or Wednesday. We will need to watch this in the upcoming days.

Have a great day,

Jack

1/6/16 Heavy Rain

Well first of all, was yesterday not a great day to see the heavy rain and water flowing down the streets?!

As much as I was very tired after a long day of covering roofs with plastic, it was great to see lots of rain. Most of us received almost 2 inches of rain in total so far.

Today now is going to be wild. Take a look at this low spinning just off shore. This has great rotation and a negative tilt.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=sat_4km&list=IR4.GIF.3.jpg,IR4.GIF.4.jpg,IR4.GIF.5.jpg,IR4.GIF.6.jpg,IR4.GIF.7.jpg,IR4.GIF.8.jpg

What this all means is we are going to have heavy rain and south winds; much more then yesterday. Rain rates are going to be 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch per hour. This afternoon even thunder showers and some tornados are possible. National weather service is even talking about roofs blowing shingles away. (Good for business)

Rain will start shortly. Around 7 am and go pretty steady till 11 or 12. This afternoon expect more showers and rain, behind. This is a colder system and will bring heavy downpours at time.

Another batch of rain around midnight tonight, then showers Thursday and Friday.

Not as often or steady, but we will see rain at times.

Saturday we will see one more, weaker system dropping another 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain.

Sunday we will get a 2 day break, then another shot of rain Monday night or Tuesday.

This system is too far out to make any calls on at this point.

Today however, will not disappoint, it will be a pretty exciting day if you like heavy rain.

Trying to keep everyone dry in the homes and businesses

1/5/16 Rain has Arrived

Ok, let the fun begin…

Heavy rain is out there right now …

We are going to have heavier rains all morning , things will taper in the afternoon with another round of rains Wednesday morning. Expect 1 to 2 inches today

Busy day, so that’s it for now

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=radar_cr&list=VBX_7.png,VBX_6.png,VBX_5.png,VBX_4.png,VBX_3.png,VBX_2.png,VBX_1.png,VBX_0.png

1/4/16 Where’s the Rain?

Kind of like where is the beef…

For the younger group, they likely do not know the Wendy’s commercial. The rain is still come. Just the first system has kind of died out.

The problem is the off shore winds pull the moisture out of the clouds. There is still rain out there, its currently falling in Lompoc and making its way towards us.Do not expect much rain today. It’s looking like 1/10 to 1/4in.

Here is what the rain looks like now

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=radar_cr&list=VBX_7.png,VBX_6.png,VBX_5.png,VBX_4.png,VBX_3.png,VBX_2.png,VBX_1.png,VBX_0.png

The real rain will arrive overnight. It is looking like we will see a number of days of good rain. Good southern support, so more rain will squeeze out.

Ok short forecast for today, but rain will not disappoint…

I expect heavy rain Tuesday through Wednesday night.

Have a great day!
