January 22, 2026
Good Thursday morning,
We’re starting the day with a few sprinkles and light showers thanks to a weak low-pressure system drifting by. https://zoom.earth/maps/precipitation/
As shown on the satellite, showers will remain possible throughout the day. However, Santa Barbara sits in a drier zone, so the best chance for rain—generally a quarter inch or less—will be to our south.
Today there’s a 30% chance of showers, but rainfall amounts will be minimal—just enough to remind us we’re still in the rainy season.
Here is the current radar, where you can see the little rain over us now https://zoom.earth/maps/radar/#view=31.839,-116.604,6z
This system will move out quickly and won’t amount to more than damp streets. Highs will stay cool in the low 60s for Santa Barbara, with nighttime lows around 48.
Rain chances end tonight, followed by a cooler pattern with below-normal temperatures continuing into next week.
On Wednesday, we start a very slight warm-up with highs reaching the low 70s. Looking into the future and long-range forecast, the next real chance for rain is February 2nd.
Enjoy the raindrops while they last—light rain is possible until around 10 PM tonight, then we expect dry conditions through the end of January.
One quick note — this system moving past us is headed straight for the middle of the country, bringing a big cold snap and snow. It may end up being the coldest system of the year, and Texas could even see some rare snow on January 23rd and 24th.
