February 2022

February 23, 2022

Good Wednesday morning,

It is cold out there. In Santa Ynez, as you go outdoors it is 32 degrees with a wind chill of 25 degrees.

Santa Barbara is a breezy 40 degrees.

The storm was another dud except for the cold air. The Santa Barbara area did only see some sprinkles and no real accumulation. Areas in SLO did better, but less than 1/4 of an inch. Today cold air with some mountain showers, but for our area, the rain chances are over for the most part.

https://zoom.earth/#view=34.31,-120.16,6.27z/date=2022-02-23,05:30,-8

This system will depart the area today and leave us with cold air and freezing temps.

Thursday it will be windy as we go through another pressure gradience creating wind.

First from the northwest, then shift to the northeast. Each day forward we begin to rebound to warmer temps.

By the weekend and into early next week we warm into the 70s, with no rain through the rest of February.

Bring that jacket and sweatshirt today, or both, it is cold!

See you in the chill

The special date has arrived. 2/22/22. It will be 11 years and 1 month and 11 days before we align numbers like this again.

Today we will have an interesting change in pattern with cold arriving later in the day. The coldest low-pressure system of the season is blasting down from Canada to the North. This will make our weather quite different from what we have seen most of February https://zoom.earth/

Cold temps show up later in the day and the mercury drops overnight with freezing temps for the next 2 nights.

Highs will be in the mid to upper 50s.

As far as the rain goes, it will not produce much. This is moisture-starved and expects only 1/10 to ¼ of an inch.

Santa Barbara and Ventura will be on the Lee side of the rain, so we will see the least amount of rain, likely 1/10 of an inch or less.

Rain will start-up in the afternoon, with it building as the day progresses. By Wednesday morning the rain is over.

Tonight, snow in the mountains, 1 to 3 inches with snow level dropping to 2000 early Wednesday morning. Hopefully, we will see the rare view of snow in our local mountains, and the ocean 10 miles away.

The winds will be with us through Wednesday before they calm. North northwest winds

Thursday we will start to transition back to offshore with warming temps and sunny skies through the weekend.

We should rebound into the 70s over the weekend and possibly warmer the first of next week.

Unfortunately, this will do nothing for our lack of rain, it will just be an interesting 24 hours

We are hoping for the March Miracle, which starts on Tuesday of next week

Bring a jacket for the next few days, it will be chilly!

Good Friday morning,

The workweek is coming to a close, with another great weekend ahead.

Today we will be influenced by offshore flow, bringing warm temps. Another day in the low 70s . with fantastic conditions, even if we need rain.

Saturday will be a carbon copy of today. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the 40s.

Sunday, we start a cooldown, with onshore flow returning in the afternoon, still a nice day.

Sunday night we will see the onshore flow bring in the fog, with some drizzle overnight into Monday morning.

Monday night and Tuesday, another cold low-pressure system brings us a chance for rain.

This is moisture-starved, so we will not expect a lot of rain.

Rain chance end and Wednesday we are back to dry conditions

Enjoy another nice weekend

2/16/22

Good Wednesday morning,

The excitement of Tuesday is behind us, all the wind and the brief downpour resulted in .005 of rain. The 20% chance turned into 100% where rain did occur for a short period, but other locations had no rain, because of the showery nature of the system. We even saw some brief hail. Pasadena saw the most hail with around 1/2 inch making the streets white for a brief time.

The wild Tuesday is behind us, and we will fall back into untypical February weather.

Another Santa Ana wind event will start up tonight through Thursday, with winds blowing from Ventura to Santa Monica. The colder air will keep the air cooler than recent Santa Ana’s, allowing the mercury to climb into the low 70s through Saturday morning. No wind for Santa Barbara just warming each day into Saturday.

Sunday, we transition into cooler weather, then next week an even colder system will move down from the North. This system will likely do the same as yesterday’s front. Rain or snow chances are still not clear. If it takes an eastern or inside track, we will see less moisture. If it tracks more over the ocean, we will see more rain. We will watch this as we move into the weekend.

In the meantime enjoy the warmer weather, in LA if you’re going to the Rams Parade it will be cooler with winds coming up in the afternoon.

Have a great day!

OM goodness, where do I start today. Outside of the weather, which was fantastic at the Super Bowl.

It was 86 degrees and a new record for the warmest Superbowl to date.

It was the best game to witness in person and in our seats. You would have thought we were celebrities, as they were all around us. Row 3 on the Rams side 46-yard line. We had better seats than the cameramen.

Today, there is fog in the air and a little in my head after 5 hours of sleep. https://zoom.earth/

The offshore flow has finally broken, with the onshore flow for a short period. A low-pressure system to the north is knocking down the ridge, just like the Rams defense know down Joe Barrows last night.

Tuesday will be the coolest day of the week, with highs in the lower 60s and fog. Tuesday night the slightest chance for rain, mainly over LA and the mountains.

With the wind in SB as another front washes out.

Wednesday through Friday the offshore flow returns but keeps us cooler in the upper 60s to low 70s. With no rain this week.

Cooling again for the weekend, then next week we might be opening the door for some wet weather.

The models are trending wetter for the week of the 21st of February.

In the meantime, What a game,

Rams Game

and Happy Valentine’s Day!

2/11/22

Good Friday morning,

Just fantastic weather continues through Sunday. Highs will be in the 80s through Sunday.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.6636353544891&lat=34.44768872414575

High pressure and offshore is giving us a dome around the western states.

https://zoom.earth

Superbowl Sunday it will be 83 degrees at the game, and 80 in Santa Barbara around 20 degrees above normal.

Talk about LA being on the big stage, the heat will be a topic of discussion for sure.

Regardless if you watch the game from your patio or in person it will be fantastic weather in Southern California!

Tonight more Santa Ana winds return to the south, we had some northwest winds last night, these will move south tonight.

The heat will stay with us until Monday, then we cool down into the 70s.

Tuesday there is a low-pressure system dropping over us and there is even a chance of rain Tuesday, or Wednesday. Not much, only 1/10th of an inch, but anything is promising.

Don’t get excited because the offshore flow returns on Thursday and Friday.

Enjoy the great weather, I am going to the beach with my grandkids on Saturday 😊

2/2/22

Good Wednesday morning,

Lots of 2’s on our date today. Hard to forget the date.

It is also Groundhog Day with an accuracy rate of 35% regarding the winter.

He is not really that important, except for entertainment value.

The Midwest today will tell you 6 more weeks of winter. Chicago area and Midwest will see lots of snow and over 1200 flight cancelations.
https://zoom.earth/

Flying back home, it is all about another Santa Ana wind event from Ventura to LA. Pretty strong winds in the mountains at 55 miles an hour, 30 miles an hour in the foothills.

It will warm some today, but cold air will only compress us into the mid to upper 60s.

Tonight’s cold air will bring many areas to the freezing point overnight.

We will see the Santa Ana event shift Thursday afternoon, then come back on Saturday and Sunday.

The good news is we will see some 70s and 80s on Sunday and Monday. The bad news is there is no rain in site through the middle of February.

Expect dry weather and more daylight in the upcoming weeks.

We might need to look for a March miracle for additional rainfall, February is not looking good.

Lots of wind today for our friend to the south

Have a great groundhog day!
