February 2021

02/26/2021

Good Friday morning Again,

Another work week is winding down, then the weekend arrives.

Today we will have a warm nice day with winds calming in Ventura and south.

Temps today will be in the low 70s and a nice warm day.

Tonight, the next inside slider arrives, bringing wind to SB tonight and Saturday.

Saturday should be a nice day with some wind, but highs in the low 70s.

Saturday night through Sunday night the winds shift to Ventura- south. This is going to be another strong Santa Ana event with wind blowing like yesterday.

This is a cold low so warming will be minimal. For Santa Barbara, highs will be cooler Sunday around 68.

Next week, dry Monday and likely Tuesday. Highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Wednesday, models are still 180 degrees from each other. Long distant model call for rain with one , and the other dry.

We will figure it out over the weekend. In the meantime, enjoy the last few dry days of February.

Monday starts March and daylight savings time is 13 days away. “ spring ahead “

Have a great weekend.

Good Thursday morning,

The sundowner winds last night stayed to the west and were not a big deal for SB.

This morning is a different story for our friends to the south. There are already 60 to 70 mile an hour wind gusts in the mountains of Ventura to Santa Monica. Wind gust will max out later in the afternoon, but might even hit the 80 mile an hour mark in some mountains.

Temps today will be all over the board. There is a cold low over Utah, so highs in some areas with no wind will be a cool 60 degrees.

Valleys with wind will see low 70s due to compressed air into these locations.

Friday, we are calm, but Friday night is the next inside slider. This will start with winds in the Gaviota, Refugio and Montecito hills area Friday night.

Then turn south on Saturday.

Saturday another strong Santa Ana event in Ventura and south.

Winds will blow similar to today.

Sunday off shore winds and a good day.

Next week, the models are still struggling a bit. They seem to be flip flopping.

At this point it looks like dry Monday and Tuesday, then the chance of a moderate storm Wednesday.

The other is calling for another inside slider. Time will give us a solution.

In the meantime, it is all about the winds. Ventura, you know what I am talking about.

Have a great day.

Good Wednesday morning,

Another week flying by. Sorry we missed the forecast for Tuesday, but work came first.

 â€¦.It was a fantastic day…..

Today some changes as low pressure and another dry inside slider rolls down the coast. Yes another low pressure system with wind and no rain.

Temps today will be 5 to 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, but still 3 to 5 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year, low 70s.

Wind this afternoon and evening will affect northwest faces in Santa Barbara. This will allow moderate winds of 40 miles an hour with some gust to 50 miles an hour at my house. “George, here we go again “.

Later tonight the winds subside in SB and move to Ventura. Expect a strong Santa Ana event 9 pm tonight to 3 pm tomorrow with 60 mile an hour wind gusts. Also creating another off shore event. This is a cold Santa Ana event, so off shore winds will only create a few degrees of warming where off shore winds are felt, everyone else will be cooler.

Rounding the corner into Friday. Fair over all with no excitement.

The weekend, another Santa Ana event sets up for Saturday and no rain will fall for the rest of February. This will make it tied for the 3rd time since 1942.

With  no rain in the month of February.

Monday starts March, and the models are now beginning to back off on the rain chances.

It looks now that our best chance will be Wednesday into Thursday of next week. We are not looking good at the start of March for rain.

Hang in there, it is a longer month.

The rest of the U.S. is fairly calm compared to last week. You can see it on the zoom earth satellite.

https://zoom.earth

Enjoy your Wednesday, get ready for more wind.

Good Tuesday morning,

Wow what a wind storm at my house last night. If you live northwest facing, you know what I mean.

Today, one more day of advisory northwest winds then they shift to the North East.

Wednesday and Thursday, a Santa Ana wind event starts up. Winds will shift south in Ventura to LA.

We will see 1 to 3 degrees of warming.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.68643188476564&lat=34.4273016631587#.YCvYcC076fA

Friday though Monday, no rain and the only Action will be wind, but Santa Ana winds. Not much in SB. Warmer for the weekend and highs will be in to 70s and low 80s in some locations by Monday.

Still no rain in sight!

Good Thursday morning,

Our weather pattern feels winter like, but it will only bring us spring like winds.

Spring weather generally brings us more wind events than rain. That is really our forecast for the next week.

Today there is a weak low pressure system to the north, beginning to affect the Bay Area.

This will work it’s way down the coast and bring a little rain to SLO and maybe Santa Ynez.

https://zoom.earth/#view=27.8,-119.1,5.41z/date=2021-02-11,05:20,-8

This does not have a lot of moisture with it, and will bring 1/4 inch or less to SLO and north county.

SB to LA have a very slight chance of some mountain showers Friday morning, but really it will be about the wind Friday afternoon. Northwest wind will come up and blow.

Saturday, another weak system works it’s way south. This one is even weaker than the last, except for wind.

Expect 1/10th of an inch in SLO Saturday night, then wind Sunday in all areas facing north and northwest.

Monday through Wednesday really does not change much, a weak system Monday night in SLO and continued northwest flow with wind over us.

Through Wednesday, dry conditions for the most part, with the wind factor.

Temps will remain chilly with snow levels to 4000 feet Sunday with maybe light accumulations. 1 to 2 inches.

Pretty uneventful weather over the next week. 7 days from now will be the 18th with no rain since the beginning of the month.

Looks like February is not looking good, and is typically our wettest month.

Have a great day!

Good Wednesday morning,

Our weather for the next week is more like the Pacific Northwest than Southern California.

What do I mean by that? Well days are cooler with below normal temps. Rain chances are in the forecast Thursday and Saturday nights, but rain totals and the type of intensity is very Seattle like.

Trust me I lived there …. and why I moved South.

Today we have a weak high pressure system that will bring us some northwest winds and for the most part sunshine.

Where fog exists this morning, it will clear to mostly sunny by late this morning.

https://zoom.earth/#view=33.2,-122,3.72z/date=2021-02-02,06:20,-8

Thursday will start off sunny with high to mid level clouds streaming in by the afternoon.

Thursday night, the first weak rain event rolls through. This is weak and more of a northern event.

Any rain that falls will be 1/10 to 1/4 of an inch. Some locations will see no rain. Mainly to the south.

Friday looks to give some clouds over the mountains, with a slight chance of rain.

Saturday will be fair, but Saturday night brings the next chance of rain. This one will be colder with snow levels dropping to 4000 feet.

Like Thursday’s system this will bring little rainfall 1/4 to 1/10. Seattle like!!

Rain chances remain over the mountains Sunday, but a chilly day. Followed by wind from the northwest, this one will blow pretty strong.

Monday and Tuesday does not bring muck excitement. Just cooler days and nights as winter type weather prevails. No real real threat of rain at this point.

Bottom line it will be chilly and some moisture here and there. Nothing to help our water tables, only some dampness.

As mentioned before, our best shot of rain is the March Miracle as we had in 1995, which saved us from the drought that year.

Keep your fingers crossed and dress warm.

Good Tuesday morning,

It is a chilly morning, with many areas seeing fog this morning. Overall, it will be a chilly February day, with Jackets needed.

One thing about today is, it was 60 years ago that the Beatles debut love me two.

https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=mcafee&ei=UTF-8&p=beatles+debut+song+love+me+do&type=E211US739G0#id=0&vid=55c0a96daf9cf14375d3e987274e60c0&action=click

That’s along time ago, but fun to go back in time.

Today we will see a weak front roll though. This will do nothing more than give us a cooler cloudy day.

Tonight and Wednesday morning it looks like we might see some north winds, as high pressure builds back in.

Wednesday into Thursday, we will see clearing, but do not expect a lot of warming. It will remain on the cool side.

Thursday night a low drops from Oregon, this will bring light rain to SLO and maybe Santa Ynez.

SB if any, will see very light accumulations, maybe 1/10th of an inch.

Friday and Saturday high pressure builds in again with cool temps.

Sunday another weak, and cold system rolls towards us. Once again this has little rain with it.

It will bring much colder temps and possibly snow to the grape vine.

Monday looks to start the week dry.

Anyway we look at this week, rain chances are likely to be lower and very little accumulations.

It will remain cooler all week, so jackets are part of the dress during the day.

Enjoy the day!

Good Monday morning,

It is back to work, after a nice cooler weekend.

This morning the fog is back, with dampness to start the day.

This week will be another week of weather with not a lot of excitement.

Today and Tuesday, cooler with some fog, and drizzle possible in some locations.

It will also bring us cooler temps in the lower to mid 60s.

https://zoom.earth/#view=33.2,-122,3.72z/date=2021-02-02,06:20,-8

Tuesday night, a ridge moves in and will give us some northwest windsTuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Wednesday, the ridge builds into Thursday; bringing us sunshine.

Thursday night, a weak low pressure system comes in and will bring us a chance of some light rain. This system is weak, so not much accumulation.

Later Friday and Saturday, high pressure builds back in and brings us a nice couple of days.

Sunday we bring back a chance of rain as another weak low will moves in.

All in all, not a lot of Action this week, but it will feel damper then it has.

Enjoy the week!

Good Friday morning,

The weekend is upon us. The good news is the weather is just what we want for the weekend.

Other then that, the weather has nothing exciting to report, just sunshine for the next week, plus…

Today and Saturday will be as good as it gets this time of year. Highs in the upper 60s to the mid 70s.

Sunday through mid week we cool down, but no rain.

Thursday we are looking at high pressure building in again with no rain in sight.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.69851686246693&lat=34.42367680171769

The only interesting item is day light is increasing daily. Today, twilight starts at 6:26 am and ends at 5:59 pm.

That is an increase of daylight of 33 minutes since January 1st.

The drought continues, amazing that we have basically seen just 2 days of rain during this rainy season.

The good news is low tides are at a good day time period over the weekend, so you get to enjoy a large beach.

Low tide is 11:18 am today, 12:24 pm Saturday and 1:16 on Sunday at A – .092 that’s pretty low.

Looks like I might need to dust off my electric beach cruiser and take a ride Sunday.

Have a great weekend.

Super bowl will be fun Sunday. I have to root for the old guy. 42 year old Tom Brady,  who does he play for!!! 😊

Can you believe I am calling him old. I wish I was 42 again.

Enjoy!

Good Wednesday morning,

There is not a lot of excitement in our weather, other then dry conditions through the next week and beyond.

Today, a weak, almost non existent low is rolling through. This will do nothing more than give us some northwest winds this afternoon.
Check out the new satellite view I found: https://zoom.earth/#view=33.2,-122,3.72z/date=2021-02-02,06:20,-8

Tonight and Thursday, the winds shift to the Northeast. Yes, another Santa Ana event. Good Wednesday morning,

Tonight and Thursday, the winds shift to the Northeast. Yes, another Santa Ana event.

This one, however, will be fairly weak with just some 10 to 20 mile an hour winds Ventura and south.

Friday and Saturday are looking warmer and bringing us highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. This is about as good as it gets this time of year.

Almost beach weather.

Sunday, still a great day but slightly cooler.

Monday and Tuesday, some additional cooling into the mid 60s, but no rain in sight.

Beyond, if you are looking for rain next week, it is not likely. Dry conditions look to prevail.

The good news is days are now beginning to get longer, with day light hanging around till almost 6 pm. That’s nice!

Good Tuesday morning,

I hope everyone is back on the email group after last weeks fiasco with Google suites.

We still truly do not know why or how many people got dropped from the group, so if there are anymore let us know.

This weeks weather is in complete contrasts to last week. This month will start off dry with some wind.

A matter of fact, the entire month is not looking good for our long range forecast.

We might need a March Miracle to save the rainfall this year.

You can see from the satellite, there is not much Action in the forecast.

https://zoom.earth/#view=23.9,-103,3.72z/date=2021-02-02,06:00,-8

A weak system is coming down the coast, and will maybe create some sprinkles in SLO.

Nothing to the south. Tonight it looks like SB might have a mild sundowner wind event.

Other than that, onshore flow and some fog in other areas.

Wednesday looks like we will see some northwest winds as pressure change occurs.

This will create typical winds with those exposures (like my house.)

Thursday high pressure and off shore flow builds in. This will continue into the weekend.

Friday looks like a nice warm up will begin. Temps will rise each day through the weekend with highs from the upper 60s to low 70s.

A nice weekend overall.

Monday looks to begin a little cool down.

As I mentioned earlier, the long range forecast for February does not look good for rain at this point, however, long range forecasts can not be reliable.

Last weeks rains did very little for run off for our water table and lakes. The rise was only 9 inches at Cachuma at 64%.

A long ways to go. Rain totals are also now 40% of normal, not really putting much of a dent into our normal rainfall.

We will see what is delivered in the weeks and months to come.

In the meantime, enjoy the nice patio dinning weather and go to your local Restaurant’s to help them dig out of the hole our state Government put them in.

Have a great day.

Jack Martin

02/01/2021

Today is your lucky day 21/21 and the first day of a new month.

February first, we are in the heart of the winter and rainy season, but not this week.

The models are now in agreement and there solution is dry all week with warming Thursday through Sunday. Some 8 to 12 degrees above normal.

Today we will see high clouds stream over us with southwest flow.

Tuesday, a low drops from the north, bringing a chance of rain as far south as SLO.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Wednesday the low passes harmlessly and cuts off south and west of LA.

This will do no more thAn give us a chance of mountain showers and more likely a few puffy white clouds.

Thursday, we have high pressure and off shore winds build in.

This is going to warm us up thRough the weekend with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

Giving us a dry week and a great weekend.

Have a nice first week in February.
