Good Thursday morning,
Happy New Year’s Eve day.
If you faced to the north, you heard the inside slider moving through last night. The winds came up around 10 am and blew though the night.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
Today the low will pass to the south and set up a Santa Ana wind event for Ventura to LA.
Most of us will be tucked into our homes to celebrate the 2021, so you will only hear the wind south of SB.
New Year’s Day is setting up for a great day with warm temps due to Santa Ana conditions. Highs will be in the upper 60s and maybe a few 70s.
Saturday and Sunday will be nice and non eventful. Clouds will begin to roll in Sunday.
Some changes to the extended forecast now.
The national weather service models are changing their tune for Monday and Tuesday, now calling for rain to develop.
With more chances throughout the week.
We will watch this as we move into the weekend, but next week looks to be wet at times.
Enjoy your New Year’s Eve with family.
Maybe a Facebook portal call. (Pretty cool if you don’t have one.)
Also, check out Netflix, I started watching Queens Gambit. “Great series”. You just need to get set up with episode 1, so hang in there, it gets great.
Happy 2021, it is going to be a better year.
Roaring 20s return!

Good Wednesday morning,
Happy birthday to my Daughter Courtney, on her golden birthday!! 30 on the 30th!!
I want to be 30 again
Today will be a perfect day, birthday or not. Off shore winds will continue to keep us warm, in the mid 60s.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
Late tonight, north winds will come up as a dry inside slider rolls down the coast. We will all feel some wind, but nothing crazy.
Thursday, the system passes through and it will bring us a cooler day, as cold air brings us chill.
Friday and New Year’s Day, it will be very nice with off shore building in once again.
It will be a great day to walk on the beach. Pearl and I will be there….
Saturday will continue the nice weather, but a weak weather system starts to roll in on Sunday.
Sunday looks like any rain will remain in SLO county. With a very slight chance for rain Sunday night and Monday.
Tuesday looks to be dry during the day, then Tuesday night and Wednesday look to bring us a moderate rain system.
We will watch this as time gets closer.
Looking beyond, some models are suggesting more rain as we move further into the week.
Have a nice day, the islands are sure pretty looking over the ocean.

Good Tuesday morning,
Wow what a crazy day Monday and the hail Sunday night. California does not mess around, when it rains it pours. I am so happy the sunshine is back.
The first rain of the season did not hold back. Most locations in the coastal areas of SB received close to 2 inches of rain, with the mountains receiving 3 to 3.5 inches.
Here are the totals for all areas:
https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/getprod.php?print=yes&afos=rrmlox
This morning you are waking to chilly temps, but sunshine. The sun will warm up into the low to mid 60s, giving us a chance to access the results from the storm.
I noticed lots of homes with limited Christmas lights, mine being one of those. The rain tripped lots of breakers.
It looks like we can forget about rain the rest of this week. It will be sunny and chilly especially at night in the valleys.
We will start to see a warm up and some northeast winds, with the storm system in Arizona now.
All week we should see off shore winds followed by a dry inside slider.
The weekend will remain dry with a weak system Sunday into Monday, but it seems to be keeping all rain to the north of us.
As we roll into next week, it is looking like we will see the next round of rain.
Where this is still in the extended forecast long rang models are showing a series of storms all next week starting Tuesday.
In the mean time, we will mop up after this storm, then bring in the new year.
Enjoy the day, you will need a jacket to start.

Good Monday morning,
Wow that was quite the downpour last night around 10pm. The skies just opened up and dumped rain for a short period.
I am not sure if I believe this, but my weather station shows 1.36 for yesterday and .43 for today.
https://tempestwx.com/station/26594
Regardless, most local areas have seen close to an inch of rain.
https://www.vcwatershed.net/fws/gmap.html
The front has passed through now and we will see showers the rest of the day. It is actually quite impressive with good counter clockwise rotation. This will begin to move through in the next few hours with Santa Barbara getting the best rain totals because of the orientation of the mountains.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
By tonight, the storm system will be past us and we will just see much cooler temps and snow levels at 4000 feet.
Some white stuff will be seen on our local mountains, especially in santa Ynez.
Tuesday through Sunday, we are looking at dry weather and no rain until Sunday possibly in north county.
Long range forecast brings rain back next week or around the 5th of January.

2 days before the funky Christmas…..
No excitement in the air for Christmas, but our weather has some.
Take a look at the satellite, there are a number of systems attempting to affect our weather and cause rain.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
Today and tonight it is all about the off shore winds in Ventura to LA. This will create wind and fire danger once again.
Thursday, a low to the south tries to sneak under the high. It will not prevail, maybe a few sprinkles.
Christmas Day, fantastic…..a beach day to FaceTime family on the East coast with their snow storms.
Christmas night into Saturday, it does look like we might see a little rain from the next system.
1/4 in SLO and less in Santa Ynez and SB. Maybe .15, enough to get the streets wet and a tease for Sunday night. This system dies out at Ventura.
Sunday transition day, then a bigger system moves in Sunday night into monday early for most of us.
This one is looking pretty good and we will see the first REAL rain of the season. .33 to .75 coastal and .50 to 2 inches in the mountains. Snow level at 5000 feet.
Enjoy, your Holiday and of course I will be part of your morning routine.

Good Tuesday morning,
Our daylight will now be 1 to 2 minutes longer each day until June 21st.
Here is something fun and interesting that Aaron brought to my attention….
Did you know that during summer and winter equinox, it is easier to balance an egg on its edge.
Thanks Aaron!
Did you go outside last night to view the Christmas star.

It is every 800 years that Jupiter and Saturn passes each other in there orbits creating a bright light.
If you missed it, here it is. (Thanks Adam)
Now the fun stuff is over, let’s see how our weather is shaping up for the rest of the week….
What a day it was on Monday. High of 81 degrees for Santa Barbara…..just fantastic.
There is not much of a change out there from yesterday. Here is the update.
Today we have an inside slider, rolling down the coast. The only thing we will feel is a cooler day by 10 to 15 degrees.
Wednesday, the next Santa Ana wind event. We will see warming 3 to 5 degrees and higher fire danger again Ventura and south.
Thursday, a weak low sneaks under the high, bringing a sight chance of rain. Really nothing.
Christmas day, just perfect with high pressure warming us into the upper 60s and low 70s.
Saturday, another low pressure system. This will get a little closer to us. Rain will likely fall in SLO and northern SB county.
Rain fall will be 1/10 to 1/4 of an inch at best.
Sunday, transition day between storms.
Monday morning, the real rain arrives. It looks like around dawn, we will see the rain start. We will have a 6 hour period and around ½ to 1 inch of wet stuff.
This is long awaited and we will look forward to seeing more then wet streets and see water flowing.
Enjoy!

Good Monday morning,
Look at how warm it is to start the day. 61 degrees at 4:30 am.
https://tempestwx.com/station/26594
Today will continue our warm sunny weather with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s for many.
This day also brings us positivity, with more daylight in our future.
Starting Tuesday, each day will bring 1 to 2 more minutes of daylight each day.
….Happy Winter Solstice…..
As far as our forecast for the week, we bounce back and forth with high pressure and low pressure every day or two.
Tuesday, onshore flow will bring the marine layer back with an inside slider, bringing a dry system from north to south.
Wednesday sets up another off shore event or Santa Ana…. this will last into Thursday.
Then another weak low pressure system brushes us. Rain will stay well to the north, bringing us maybe some clouds in the mountains.
Christmas Day, another weak pop up high will arrive. This should make a nice Christmas Day with highs in the mid 60s.
Saturday, another bounce with a slightly stronger system that will create rain in SLO and northern Santa Barbara county.
Don’t get too excited, 1/4 in SLO and 1/10 in Santa Ynez.
Sunday, transition day between the next storm system.
Rain will arrive for all Sunday night into Monday and rain through most of Monday.
This is great news for Action Roofing, because we will be able to enjoy at least most of the Christmas holiday rain free.
It does look like the system on Monday will bring moderate rainfall.
Just how much will be clearer in the next few days, but it will be a busy Monday at action with the first rain storm of the season.
Enjoy the great day, this will be the last extremely warm day for a while.
Most of all, stay healthy and COVID free!
Lastly, take a look in the sky tonight 1 hour after sunset, you will see what is known as the Christmas star.
It really has nothing to do with a star. It is Jupiter and Saturn passing by each other in their orbit.
They will brighten up the sky.

Happy week before Christmas eave. OMG it is almost here…
Today we have a weak low pressure system bringing rain to the Bay Area and down the coast to SLO.
This is not a big rain maker for anyone.
1 to 1/4 inch in SLO and nothing for us.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
Santa Barbara will be affected with wind and cooler temps. Northwest winds will come up later this afternoon.
Friday and into the weekend we start a gradual warm up, with Sunday getting into the upper 60s and low 70s.
Next week will bring us continued dry weather, around Wednesday there is a cut off low that may affect our weather.
Models differ, but most are dry. We will see how it goes.
Christmas day we are looking for another warm up.
One cool thing coming in 2021 is Southwest Airlines is going to start flying in and out of SB in April.
That’d be great. Looks like destinations will be Vegas, LA, Oakland, San Jose, San Diego. Exact details are not out yet.
Have a great day, it will be cooler and windier this afternoon.

10 days till Christmas!
The date changes daily, but our forecast remains the same. We go from onshore to offshore every few days.
Today we start another off shore event. We will see a nice warm up for the next 2 days.
Northeast winds will pick up today in Ventura south. SB will have much less wind today.
The main story today is really the surf. https://www.weather.gov/lox/ For all those folks you will have a good few days.
A north swell will bring some nice waves to the central coast 10 to 16 feet and Ventura 6 to 10 feet . SB will see some waves, but not like the other areas 3 to 6 feet.
Temps will be in the mid 60s today and will peak Wednesday near 70 degrees.
Wednesday night into Thursday we change again to onshore flow.
This is due to another system that will die out to the north, bringing no rain to our area. Looks like the rain will fall in SLO and north.
We will have a north wind event Thursday night in SB, then winds will shift to Ventura Friday to the northeast as we set up for another off shore event.
The weekend is looking nice in the low 70s.
Next week will remain warm for the first few days, but Tuesday night into Wednesday there is a cut off low in our future.
The models are really struggling with this, as they do with all cut-off lows. We will see how things progress as we get through the weekend.
The one thing we do know is Christmas is 10 days away, and with the virus counts rising, it will be a Christmas like no other…
COVID infections yesterday hit a record high for Santa Barbara County with 360 cases, Monday alone.
https://publichealthsbc.org/status-reports
Stay healthy, the vaccine is 1 day closer than yesterday.

Good Monday morning,
It has been a typical La Niña pattern so far this rainy season. All the storm track has stayed well to the north, even NorCal has remained quite dry so far.
Today we wake to another round of wind. The low pressure system that passed through yesterday is now over Nevada.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
Today will Bring us wind and cooler temps. Expect only low 60s today with wind https://www.weather.gov/lox/
Tonight, the winds shifts to Ventura, and we will start a gradual warm up with temps rising to normal for this time of year. Mid to upper 60s.
Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week. Highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.
Another storm system moves into north county Wednesday night and Thursday.
This again will die out before it makes itself to SB, but areas north of Santa Ynez will see some rain.
For the weekend we reverse again and go to high pressure, with some warming.
It appears there are systems rolling through every few days, but fall short of producing rain.
It does appear the storm track might dip further south the beginning of next week, so we will have to see if this will bring our area any rain.
Looking ahead towards Christmas Day, it looks like we might see a nice warm up. OMG Christmas is 11 days away.
It certainly has not felt like the Christmas season with no Christmas parties and the lock down. Send that vaccine my way for Christmas.
Just a quick story, way long ago I use to Waite tables in restaurants and it was alway too busy to celebrate Christmas and New Years with the group I worked with.
Because of this, we use to celebrate Christmas and New Years in July. Maybe that’s what we will need for 2021.
Have a nice week!

Good Friday morning,
The weekend is upon us once again. Today we are waking to something we have not seen in quite awhile…Fog…
A weak system is pushing down the coast and is creating the onshore flow. This will allow only a cooler day.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12
Tonight the front washes through, and SB and northwest exposed areas will see some wind.
Saturday will be another cooler day with some clouds and a slight chance of rain in northern SLO. Nothing here.
Sunday a weak off shore flow, with a warmer day. Highs still just in the upper 60s and maybe a few 70s.
Next week, nothing exciting. On and off onshore and off shore winds with temps in the 60s with still no rain through the work week.
Check this out, this is pretty cool and was started right here in SB.
Eli, is a local and started this company with a few others.
Let’s get Restaurant’s, schools and businesses open and safe, this is one step closer to that.
Have a great weekend!
Jack Martin
12/10/2020
Good Thursday morning,
Going outside this morning you can smell the change. The onshore flow has brought back the smell of the Pacific Ocean. This will make for a cooler day.
Tonight a weak low passes through. This will draw the marine layer and create a foggy day Friday. Temps should be in the 60s and foggy.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G17&band=09&length=12
Friday night the front passes and north winds will blow in SB and Santa Ynez.
Nothing too crazy, just breezy.
Saturday winds shift to Ventura and south with a weak off shore event.
Sunday will be nice with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s.
Next week, looks like the on again and off of onshore to offshore.
Tuesday, another Santa Ana wind event with just minimal warming.
Anyway you look at it, we are high and dry into at least next weekend.
Enjoy the dry, and nice winter weather.
If you miss going to Restraunt’s, head to Solvang where they are open for outside dining.
The sherif said he will not enforce the Governor shut down, so outdoor dinning is on….😊

Good Tuesday morning,
Today, it is all about the warm temp and the winds. Yesterday the winds come up in the afternoon for all and the mercury climbed to 80 degrees late in the afternoon.
Overnight, the wind affected most areas with peak gusts from 35 to 70 miles an hour. This made for a warm night. Most areas stayed in the 60s and 70s. Here is wind speeds in the mountains:
https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/getprod.php?print=yes&search=wind&afos=pnslox
Today it will be windy, but more of a typical Santa Ana event. Ventura south will be quite windy through this afternoon, then the winds will back off.
Since there is still an eastern component to the winds, the central coast and Santa Ynez will still see some wind today.
For SB, we should be calm and warm. As a matter of fact, everyone will be warm. Most locations will see 80s with a few low 90s sprinkled in.
…..It will be fire weather….
All winds back down tonight and Wednesday the off shore event moves out and we welcome backing onshore flow.
This will bring cooler weather both Thursday and Friday with fog along the coast, and temps 15 degrees cooler than today.
For the weekend, it looks like high pressure builds back in for Sunday and temps will remain warm, with NO rain in sight.
We are still dry for the next 7 days, and likely 10.
Have a nice warm day, we might need to break out our shorts again.

Good Monday morning,
The holiday spirt was really noticeable from my house last night.
Naturally with the sunset and after dark with all the lights on homes.

The weather this week will be dry, but windy at times.
Winds will arrive today in Ventura south then move into Santa Barbara and Montecito tonight.
Wind to the South will have gusts of 70 miles and hour and here tonight 20 to 30 miles an hour from the Northeast.
This will create a nice warm up for the next few days. 70s and 80s Tuesday. Still warm Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday onshore flow cools us down around 5 to 10 degrees.
For the weekend, we are looking at upper 60s and 70s as another off shore flow builds in again.
Enjoy the continued summer like weather, high fire danger the next 2 days.

Good Thursday morning,
Today and the next few days are going to be windy in Ventura and points to the south.
Looks like wind gusts of 35 to 45 miles an hour. This will bring another round of extremely high fire danger.
For Santa Barbara and points north, no wind to speak of here. The Event is a Northeast wind affecting Ventura to LA. (Santa Ana event)
All in all, our weather continues to be extremely dry with no rain in sight. Dry for at least the next week and likely further.
The temps are also pretty consistent for the next week. Highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Lows in the 40s coastal and 30s in the valleys.
The wind event really continues for Ventura and South through Sunday.
SB will be the place to be, maybe wine tasting in Santa Ynez in the afternoon after it warms up…..
As we all know, we have received really no rain in the 20-21 rainy season.
As of this point, we typically see 15% of our rainfall. This year we are at 2%.
We will have more detail on this in Friday’s forecast. Thanks to my friend Mike at the National Weather Service doing my research.
Stay tuned and hang onto your hat in Ventura South.
😀 As always, have a great day!
Jack Martin
12/01/2020
Welcome to December,
Hopefully just in time for Christmas we will see the vaccine. Our weather has certainly been Cooperating here, with warmer days.
There is a cold low pressure system plunging into Colorado bringing a big freeze.
For us it will only fuel another Santa Ana wind event. Ventura and areas south will begin to feel the winds tonight.
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12
The colder air will not really create warming, but the winds will create a high fire danger, due to no rain.
It looks like today will be warm in the valleys with a few low 80s, but mostly in the 70s for everyone else.
Wednesday through Friday, pockets of wind and Santa Ana winds at times.
Saturday the winds calm and high pressure builds in, just in time for the weekend.
Have a great day!
Jack Martin
