12/31/2018 Forecast
Good Monday morning,
Or the last 18 hours of 2018.
Where fireworks may be common for New Year’s Eve, this will be replaced by wind in ventura and areas south into Pasadena.
Wind is going to come up tonight before the celebration in those areas. We are going to have a cold Santa Ana wind event. Winds will blow into New Year’s Day.
It is looking like those areas can see 20 to 30 mile winds and gusts 45 to 60 in the mountains and valleys.
This will make for a tough new year day at the rose bowl parade and game.
Temps will also be well below normal. Lows in valleys will dip into the 20 something the next few nights.
Highs will be in the low 60s.
This is all thanks to an inside slider dropping south right now.
There is a good pressure gradience which will create the wind event.
You can see it on the satellite picture.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
For those in Santa Barbara and SLO, the winds will not be a factor. Only the cold.
As we move into the new year, the weather stays dry until the later part of the weekend.
Then the rain chances begin again.
It is still too far away to really know what will happen, but the subtropical jet is looking to move into Southern California.
If that happens it could be a pretty wet storm. Time will bring on the facts, as we move into Thursday and Friday.
It does look like we will great the cold snap Thursday and Friday, as warmer air moves in.
I hope everyone has a great New Year’s Eve and welcomes in 2019 on Tuesday.
Be safe out on the roads.
I personally will be welcoming in a New York New Years and read about a west coast celebration on New Year’s Day.
If your in the windy areas, be prepared. it will blow pretty hard on the celebrations new year eve and day.
Talk to all in 2019, enjoy!
12/29/18
Good Saturday morning,
Dry, but windy weather for some locations. Everyone will have chilly temps.
Today I decided to feature Santa Ynez, my old stomping grounds.
If you are waking up there this morning, it is a chilly 30 degrees. Highs for the day will hit 60 degrees at best.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-120.05378723144533&lat=34.59251960889391#.XCdyrBqIafA
For Ventura and areas south, in Santa Ana land, wind will be your cup of tea.
This morning it is somewhat calm, but cold wind will kick up around noon and get stronger tonight.
Winds will blow in the mountains 30 to 40 around noon, then rise to 50 to 60 miles and hour tonight.
This will also transfer to the valleys and coastal areas. Winds however will be much less 15 to 30 then 30 to 45.
You will feel it, and it will be cold. A cold low pressure system will make it a chilly day on Sunday.
Now Santa Barbara, we have the best that winter can serve up. No wind but chilly. Lows around the low 40s at night and highs in the low 60s
Looking into the future…
Dry and cool weather on tap through the new year. Warming temps mid week, allowing us to peak into mid to high 60s.
As far as the 4 letter word Rain goes. There is none for us though next week.
So now you know the weather. Wake up and enjoy California winter.
It is a lot worst in other parts of the country. Did you watch the news last night? What a mess they have in the East.
Have a great weekend, the New Year is right around the corner.

12/27/18 Forecast
Good Thursday morning,
There is not a lot of weather excitement, with the exception of wind and colder.
It looks like we will see dry weather through most of next week.
In the short term, not much to really talk about.
Today, sunny and a nice winter day with highs in the 60s.
Tonight maybe some sundowner winds in areas.
Friday an inside slider pushed from the north. This brings up cold air and wind.
Friday night, cold. Inland areas will see freezing temps.
Saturday a Santa Ana event starts up. Wind in Ventura and those areas, where Santa Ana wind are felt.
Sunday likely to be the coldest day of the year. It feels like winter.
Monday through Thursday looks dry, but cooler. Temps will be below normal.
Here is the local forecast:
Today’s Forecast
Enjoy!
12/26/2018
Good Wednesday morning,
I hope Santa was good to everyone. We all had a little early morning present on Christmas say with the rain.
Everyone received around 1/10 of a inch. A few locations saw 1/4.
Now it is all about cool temps and no rain until next year.
The forecast is basically dry, with highs in the low 60s and cool at night.
All clouds are gone and we will have a typical end to the year.
Valleys will be cold at night with 30s. Here along the coast, some 40s at night.
All in all dry into the new year. Here comes 2019!
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Enjoy!
Your Christmas Present
Your little Christmas present is right right around the corner. Everyone is going to see a little rain soon.
This will be a quick one with no more then a few hours of rain. Here it is:
Look out for the wind in the mountains later this morning. They are going to gust at 60 miles an hour.
Merry Christmas!
Christmas Eve Day
Good Monday morning,
Good morning from the bay area, it will be raining here in the next few hours.
There is a low pressure system over Oregon that is going to slide though California. Rain will start north to South.
Today starts out quiet then it gets interesting later today. It does now look like everyone will get some rain as of the 4 am forecast.
The low forecast to be an inside slider, is now tracking more to the west. This will allow some rain for all. Rain will be less then 1/4 inch.
Tonight, it looks like the wind also gets interesting. Santa Ynez mountains, north mountains and most northwest exposures will see 30 to 40 mile an hour winds.
Christmas day, there may be a few lingering showers, but for the most part dry and cool.
Wednesday though the weekend will be dry with highs in the 60s.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Hope everyone has a great Christmas holiday, Santa is in the sky!
If you want to follow his progress here he is:
Merry Christmas!
Sunday, 23rd of December
This is a quick one…

12/22/2018 Forecast Update
Good Saturday morning,
We are inching closer to Christmas.
The good news is, it looks like rain will not dampen our Christmas now. Any rain will be sprinkles and real rain will be in SLO and north.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Today will be cooler with onshore flow. Highs in the upper 60s.
Sunday high pressure builds in for one day, with some wind Sunday night.
Monday a weak system approaches from the north. This is now going to track inland, so there is little to no moisture to tap into.
Looks like sprinkles at best for us Christmas Eve.
Christmas Day, no rain now. As always in Southern California it is about the outdoors year round.
Christmas Day will be no different. We can watch the Lakers play the Warriers on our outside TV.
Wednesday though Friday will be dry. Basically no rain in sight.
I want to take this moment to wish everyone and there family’s a Very Happy Christmas and holiday.
I thank you for all the referrals and support you give me, Action Roofing-Energy and Beyond heating and air.
It has been a great 2018 and I could not do it without great friends, employees, referrals and you all.
I hope everyone has a great holiday with friends and family.
Thank you so much for all the friendships I have made throughout the years.
I love what I do.
Merry Christmas to all.
Happy Winter Solstice
Yes, we made it to the shortest day of the year. From Saturday on our days begin to get a little longer.
Here in Southern California we love the daylight, so this will be a good thing.
Regarding the weather, the offshore winds have now turned on shore.
Yesterday was quite warm. I know my truck said 78 degrees, but a few places hit the 80 degree mark.
That will change today. It will be noticeably cooler with highs in the low 70s .
High clouds are making today mostly cloudy. It should be a great sunrise and sunset.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Saturday, about the same as today, but a few more minutes of sun light.
Sunday a ridge builds in for one day. Looks like we might even see some wind in southern SB, the Grapevine and Central Valley.
Monday Christmas Eve day, a low drops over San Francisco. This will create rain in the north and slowly drop down the coast.
This is a weak system for us, with chances of rain in SLO and Santa Barbara county over night.
At this point it looks like it will clear out quickly on Christmas Day and it will be dry during the day.
At this point it looks like rain will not make it past Ventura.
Out in the future, looks like dry days after Christmas with not a lot of excitement.
I hope everyone has a great holiday, Christmas is 4 days away.
More about Christmas in our Saturday update.
Have a great winter solstice day.
The Week is Flying By and Christmas is Getting Closer
Good Wednesday morning,
Hump day and Christmas is 6 days away. Even better 3 more days, then each day begins to get longer again.
As we celebrate winter solstice on Friday.
For now, high pressure and off shore winds are going to make it more summer like, than winter.
Today and Thursday temps will be 8 to 12 degrees above normal for this time of year.
Everyone will see 70s and some locations low 80s . Now that’s a nice present for Southern California .
You can see the dome of high pressure keeping clouds away.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Thursday will be the warmest day, then cooling begins Friday as off shore winds turn onshore.
The weekend will be cooler with dry and seasonable temps in the 60s.
Monday flow turns to the northwest and lows begin to dip south again.
It will bring us high and mid level clouds, but no rain.
Tuesday Christmas Day, we will see the rain chances begin. Both model bring a low and rain to the area.
Any rain that falls will be on the lighter side. So no big systems.
That’s it for today.
12/18/2018 Weather Update
Good Tuesday morning,Rain is over. The only thing left is sunshine and warmer weather for the week.Rainfall was light with most places receiving less than 1/4 of a inch. This is good for hillsides and plant growth. The warm weather this week will be a good formula for this. Here are the rain totals, the winner was the central coast https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/getlocal.php?prod=LAXRRMSBAAs far as over weather goes this week, there are no real changes. We will see some wind tonight in gaviota and the ventura hills, then just sunny and warmer each day. By Thursday, expect some 80s as highs.Cooling for the weekend, but no rain in sight.Next chance of rain is Christmas Day, but the 2 long range models differ on this.So we will wait and see. In the mean time, enjoy the summer like weather. Highs in the upper 70s and some low 80s Thursday. Warming each day.Enjoy summer like weather.Jack Martin
12/17/2018 Weather Update
Good Monday morning,
What did you think of that rain!! Yes there was barely a trace so far, .002 in Santa Barbara. SLO was the big winner however, with 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.
The main front has passed through the area; however, we are still expecting some showers behind the front. We will see if this will give us anything but slick streets.
Here is the satellite:
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Rain today will be showery at best. As I am typing right now, the rain is arriving in my back yard.
Showers will end this afternoon, and then we will have dry weather the rest of the work week and likely through the weekend.
As previously discussed, expect a big warm up mid week, then cooler for the weekend.
Next chance of rain is Christmas Day. But that’s way in the future for weather models.
Have a great week before Christmas, it’s coming fast.

Good Sunday morning,My weather report is a bit late today. Not because it was a party night. It all falls back on my cute grand daughter.I was on watch this morning, following her crawl all around the house, not to get hurt. Her mom is up now, so here we go.Rain is on the way. No real changes from yesterday, everything is on track.https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.htmlToday will be sunny and nice. Some clouds will begin to stream in this afternoon.Tonight, rain will begin north to south. Rain should begin in SLO around sunset then move south.Rain will arrive around 10 PM in Santa Ynez and shortly after in SB. It looks like light rain till 4am, then turn to showers.Rain will end Monday around noon and turn sunny. Looks like we will see 1/4 to 1/2 inch in SLO. 1/4 inch in Santa Barbara and 1/10 in LA.Not a big rain maker, all rain will be on the light side.Tuesday through Saturday will be dry, and sunny, high pressure begins to build in Tuesday and each day we get warmer.By Thursday we will be 8 to 12 degrees above normal, with some areas seeing the low 80s.Things cool on Friday and Saturday, but no rain in sight at this point.Have a great Sunday.
12/15/2018 Weather Update
Good Saturday morning,
The clouds of yesterday are gone now. As we talked Friday we had a weak front with just clouds move through. This created nothing more than clouds and the look of rain.
Take a look at the satellite picture. You can see the next system drawing closer. Where this actually looks impressive, it will not be a big rain producer for us.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Today, expect a nice sunny day. Temps will rise a few degrees to the high 60s.
Sunday will also start off nice. Then clouds will start streaming in later in the afternoon.
Sunday night the rain begins to the north. Looks like rain will arrive in SLO somewhere around 7pm. This will work its way south and arrive to our area after midnight.
Monday looks to be wet the first half of the day, then start to clear up.
All in all, this is a weak system, enough rain to wash all the streets, but nothing more than that. Santa Barbara will receive 1/4 inch points to the north 1/4 to 1/2 inch. LA maybe a 1/10 of a inch. The system will really begin to fall apart as it rounds point conception.
Tuesday, high pressure builds and we warm up.
Wednesday and Thursday we warm up more. We are looking to warm into the upper 70s and some 80s even.
Friday, we turn a little cooler.
Ok have a great weekend. 10 days till Christmas 🎄 good thing I am not in charge of shopping.

12/13/2018 Weather Update
Good Thursday morning,
Today is going to be sunny and warm. Santa Ana winds are blowing down south. Ventura and south Santa Barbara will not have wind, only warmer temps. We should see 70s today.
Friday a front approaches. This will knock down the ridge . And bring high clouds and cooler temps
Friday night looks like a little rain in the hills only. Dry for us.
Saturday will be nice.
Sunday a front starts to move in. This will not affect us during the day, but over night it will bring rain.
Rain will start up from north to south, just before midnight. Rain will occur in SB and south early Monday morning into mid day.
It looks like 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
Tuesday high pressure build in. This will bring dry and warm likely the rest of the work week.
Enjoy the great day ahead of us today.
Northeast Pacific – Water Vapor Loop
12/12/2018
Good Wednesday morning,
Dry weather here in Southern California. A matter of fact all of California.
If you want to see rain and lots of snow, just go to the Pacific Northwest. The storm track is over them, and they are getting hammered.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
For us, basically just fantastic weather for mid December. All the way through the weekend. All rain and snow stays to the north of our area, until Sunday night or Monday.
Today, it is high pressure and cool morning heating to around 70. A weak inside slider will drop in tonight and create a little wind at best.
Thursday off shore winds take over and warm up the area. Winds will be on the light side for Ventura south, 15 to 25 miles an hour.
Friday and Saturday, just nice sunny days. Great Christmas weather, that everyone but Florida wishes they could have.
Sunday a front approaches. Still not 100% in the exact forecast, but it looks like light rain will come in Sunday night into Monday.
Next week, models are suggesting a strong Santa Ana event mid week. This is looking to be a good one for the Ventura and south folks. More to come later.
In the mean time, great weather the rest of the week, then a little rain Sunday night into Monday. Then dry weather the rest of the week. We are on one of those patterns that keep the storm track away from us.
Lastly, the week following is Christmas. Wow how time flies.
Have a great day, and enjoy why we pay high taxes to live here.
12/11/2018 Weather Update
Good Tuesday morning,It is going to be a quiet week of weather. No real excitement with the weather at least. We will see some wind at times, but that’s the most excitement we will see.Today there is a weak front passing though. No rain, maybe some wind later in the day.Wednesday high pressure and off shore winds for 1 day.Thursday an inside slider brings back the wind and off shore flowFriday back to off shore winds.Friday night another front with no rain.Saturday and Sunday should be nice and warm, with Santa Ana light wind.Sunday night into Tuesday there is another weak approaching front. Models can not decide when or if we will get any rain. We will wait and see how this goes. If we do, it will likely be on the light side.https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html Enjoy a great winter week in southern california, highs in the upper 60s and low 70s.
12/10/18 Weather Update
Good Monday morning,
It was a nice weekend, with some high clouds today. All in all, a great winter weekend with highs in the low 70s.
Did you watch the national weather Sunday night? You would have saw the system that rolled though LA earlier in the week, hammering North Carolina with snow.
For us this week we will have some wind, but no rain. The first week in almost a month that will remain dry. Looks like all systems will stay to the north. We will only have the wind factor. Monday night into Tuesday is looking to be windy here.
Looks like off shore flow sets up Wednesday and Thursday with a Santa Ana wind event. Winds in Santa Ana locations (not Santa Barbara) will be around 30 miles an hour, otherwise dry through Friday.
Extended Friday night into the weekend is still very questionable. Long range models differ on what will happen.
For now we will focus on the short term.
All rain will stay to the north. That means Oregon and north. For us, north slope might see a chance of rain. For us, only a little wind.
Dry weather all week.
Now you are ready for the new work week. 15 days till Christmas and 12 days till the shortest day of the year.
Amen for that, let’s start the longer days.
Oh this is from the sky

Good Friday morning,The rain is gone now. We all need to try to get caught up on work projects. However, if you look at the 10 day models, they are callingfor a big storm ☔️.Where this is quite a bit out, we will keep an eye on the future. 10 day models can change. In the meantime, enjoy a great weekend. This will show us all why we live in Southern California.Enjoy your weekend Jack Martin

| Good Thursday morning,The low pressure system that has been spinning in the pacific is now on the move.As a lot of lows that spin around, they have a mind of there own. Wednesday Morning, Dec. 5th Forecast
Good Wednesday morning,
This storm has become a dud, we have only received 1/10 of an inch of rain so far.
As you wake up and go outside, you can feel why the rain has not dropped much moisture. There are a few factors for this.
- This system is much further south and west then typical. Most of the time the low sits off the coast in northern Cal and rotates bands of rain our way.
- Winds are out of the south east. Blowing just like a Santa Ana wind. These are dry winds. As rain drops from the clouds, the east (dry winds) evaporate the rain, resulting in less rainfall.
- This system is also further west. Main low stays off shore and there is no subtropical support from the south.
These factors all spell a dud for rain.
https://www.windy.com/34.452/-119.180?20.303,-120.586,3Satellite
Satellite
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
The low is just spinning around and moving slowly. This means the chance of rain will be less through Thursday.
The low will drop south into the Baja of Mexico on Friday. At that point it will be too low, and chances of rain go away.
Today and Thursday we will see some rain, more showery in nature. All in all, we will see 1/2 in total. Maybe a few areas will see 1 inch.
The weekend and Monday look dry, and nice. Temps will actually climb to be normal or even a few degrees above. Highs could get to the low 70s.
Tuesday, another low drops south. This is looking to do the same thing as this one.
System will be west of the coast and any rainfall will be light.
There’s your update, you don’t need to fear a lot of rain from this one.
Rain Is On the Way
Good Tuesday morning,
Here is the low spinning off the coast as discussed yesterday.
This storm is further off the coast than normal and there are northeast winds. This will dry up some of the rain.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
That being said, this is a good sized storm. If these factors did not come into play, this would be a big storm.
Rain will start up today in SLO county late morning, then drop south late in the day.
Rain will arrive in Santa Ynez late in the afternoon and Santa Barbara around 5 or 6.
Rain will continue over night and half of Wednesday. We will then see on and off showers through Thursday afternoon.
This system will be more showery then the last. Also rain rates will be less because of the east winds.
All in all, we will see decent rain in Santa Barbara .75 to 1 1/2 inch. LA will see less, 1/2 to 1 inch.
The further east you go the less rain you will see. This system will land in the Baja on Friday.
If heavy rain falls, it will not be until Thursday and it will be quick and short bursts.
Rain clears out Thursday afternoon. Then we will be dry through the weekend.
Next rain is Monday night into Tuesday. This system is advertised to be lighter at this point.
Talk to all around 5am on Wednesday.
Have a great day.
Monday 12/3/2018 forecast
Good Monday Morning,
Well here it is, the next rain system.
Take a look at its position. It is much further south than a typical storm starting out of the gulf of Alaska.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
This creates 2 issues. The storm will likely track over the coastal waters more, creating less rain inland.
In addition, there is going to be some East winds that will dry the air, creating less rain inland. (Notice I say inland).
The coastal areas will still see pretty good rain total. Santa Barbara County should see the most rain. 1 to 2 inches.
Rain will start up overnight on Tuesday. Rain will not likely make it to LA until Wednesday.
For us, we are looking at rain Tuesday night, all of Wednesday and showers on Thursday.
Friday will be dry, and it now looks like the weekend will be also.
It seems our pattern of rain mid-week will continue. More rain likely next Tuesday into Wednesday.
This sure screws with any work week plans for a roofing contractor, but we deal with what is dished to us.
We do need the rain.
Also, cold and frosty out there. The next system will likely create some snow on mountain tops in the Santa Ynez valley.
Someone please get me a picture. That’s one thing I miss about living in Santa Ynez.
Hope everyone has a good week, and we will be there with your morning coffee on Tuesday.
