December 2015

12/28/15 Monday Morning Weather

I hope everyone had a great Christmas like I did. San Francisco area was great with my kids.

Weather wise, there is another weak north to south system coming our way this morning. Rain is occurring to the north in Santa Maria right now

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=radar_cr&list=VBX_7.png,VBX_6.png,VBX_5.png,VBX_4.png,VBX_3.png,VBX_2.png,VBX_1.png,VBX_0.png

This is another one of those north to south systems that will likely not make it to Santa Barbara.. Rain will occur in Santa Ynez and north. With only a slight chance for us in SB

After the front passes, yes another round of wind…

Then Tuesday though the week we will see dry weather, with no rain in site.

Enjoy the short work week; New Years is right around the corner!

12/24/15 Christmas Eve Weather

Good morning from rainy San Francisco,

Yes, woke this morning to see the rain. It has been quite absent from southern California weather. Sadly this trend will likely continue for SB south.

Not if you are looking for snow. There is lots of that in the Sierras. It is snowing there right now as we speak.

The low that is bringing rain and snow to Northern California right now will sag south this afternoon.

Clouds will appear this afternoon and rain will begin north of Santa Barbara.

Everyone in Santa Ynez and north will see rain.As for Santa Barbara, well the mountains of SB will block us again. If any rain occurs it will be very light.

Wind will usher in our Christmas morning in SB. The wind event will not be as bad as Tuesday, but you will still know it is out there.

Friday will also be very cold in areas. SB will not be as cold because of wind, but grape vine might see snow. If so the 101 will be a real mess.

The weekend is sunny and warm. Santa Anna wind event, will keep SB warm and sunny.

Lots of wind in Ventura south.

Next week, a weak system Monday then dry though Wednesday .

Merry Christmas to all    santa

12/23/15 Good Wednesday morning

Good Wednesday morning,windemoji

Wow, those winds lived up to there advertisement . Yesterday and over night they blew crazy. My back yard looks like a war zone. Stuff everywhere.

Well the winds will die down today, by noon. Still blowing pretty hard at 5:30 am

Today after the winds die , will be dry and sunny.

Thursday will start out dry, then late in the day another round of north rains and south winds will hit us.

Looks like we will get a little rain from this one, overnight Christmas eave.

However the north to south flow , will block or drop most of the rain to the north of the mountain range.

Looks like another wind event for Christmas Day. Not as crazy as the one we just had, but you will know it.

The cold low dropping from the gulf of alaska will make Friday over night quite cold.

Saturday and into the weekend a santa Anna wind event picks up.

Yes, lots of wind for Ventura south. Here is SB . Just a nice warm up.

You might even call it beach weather. Highs might get into the low 70s.

We will have a mix of summer and winter in California.

snowman

If you are in the mountains you will find lots of snow and great winter weather.  At the beach, well how about 70ssunny

Love California .We will have something  for all. Just a 6 hour drive away

For the start of the last week in 2015, it will be dry though at least Tuesday.

More to come, 2 days till Christmas !!!!

12/22/15 Good Tuesday Morning

Good Tuesday morning,

Well as advertised, we are trying to squeeze out a little rain. Rain is falling in Santa Maria into the valleys of Santa Ynez. If you watch the radar it just disappears as it hits the mountain of SB. Looks like there is a few showers over the hills to the north. ( the San Marcos pass)

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=radar_0r&list=VBX_7.png,VBX_6.png,VBX_5.png,VBX_4.png,VBX_3.png,VBX_2.png,VBX_1.png,VBX_0.png

Today looks like there will be light rain through at least mid-day.

Santa Barbara may stay in the rain shadow and there will only be showers over the mountains.

This afternoon, get ready for the wind. We will have good northwest wind event with winds in the 30 to 50 mile an hour range.

Wednesday will be dry.

Thursday will start out dry, and then rain chances increase through the day. Rain for sure in SLO. We should also see some rain, but similar to the other systems it fades as it reaches us.

The weekend is looking like a Santa Ana wind event. This weekend will feel like summer weather in winter, with highs in the 70s.

3 days till Christmas

FYI, have you seen the weather on the east coast. It is going to be in the 60s and 70s for Christmas. If you believe in El Nino then they are living it right now on the east coast.

Just wait, we will get ours next month…..

12/18/15 Weekend Weather

Morning,

Here is our next system marching in. This has a little more southerly movement, however like all the past systems it will move through quickly.

Rain will start from north to south overnight. We will all see rain sometime early Saturday morning. Rain will be short lived with a 1 to 2 hour period of steady rain. Then showers and wind behind. We are looking at 1/4 to 1/2 inch to fall on us.

Today we will have a nice warm day. By the end of the day the high clouds and the beginning of the low will be seen.

Today will be warm, even some low 70s.

Saturday, well of course rain then Saturday night cold and some wind. Rain should be over in the afternoon.

Looks like another shot of rain Monday night into Tuesday. Then models are talking about a bigger storm for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Christmas is 7 days away !!!!!!

12/17/15 Rain in our forecast

Good morning,

Rain is looking better, stronger and earlier for Saturday.

First of all, we will have nice weather for the next 2 days. This will mean cold nights, sunny days and highs in the upper 60s.

All eyes are really on Saturday’s storm. Models are now calling for some southern support. This means rain will be enhanced with the subtropical support.

We will have to watch this, as the models show some consistency, but keep an eye out for more rain fall possibly.

Rain will arrive mid-morning Saturday. It looks like we will see a minimum of 1/4 inch, and more if we get the south flow.

There are actually a few storms that can affect us starting Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday look dry. Then another system just in time for Christmas

Stay tuned.

Saturday’s rain will come together by Friday morning.

12/15/15 Chilly Weather

Good morning all,

The word of the next few days is “cold”.

Tonight will be the coldest night so far this year, with frost warnings all the way to the coastal areas. All valleys and mountain areas will be well below freezing overnight.

Wednesday will be pretty much a repeat of today, with maybe a degree or 2 warmer.By Friday a short warming trend starts, expect the warmest days of the week to be in the upper 60s.

Saturday night through Monday we will see 2 lows move through. At one point Sunday’s low was going to cut-off and spin over us. This is a great formula for rain and heavy rain for us; however models have turned the other way at this point. Now the forecast is showing 2 more systems like last Sunday.

We will see how it all plays out for the late weekend.

In the meantime…Cold and LOTS of frost on those ROOFs.

Be careful and dress in many layers. It will start and end cold every day.

**REMEMBER all the way back to summer when we were looking forward to some cooler weather!!!! That seems like a long time ago now. No A/C needed now.**

                                            Have a great day

12/10/15 Rain Today

By Jack Martin on Dec 10, 2015 at 08:13 AM

Good Thursday morning,

Yes, rain day has arrived.

It does look like the rain will start to the north late this morning, and then arrive in Santa Barbara in the midafternoon.

Rain total, however are going to be light. This is a system coming at us from the northwest. This never helps rain fall totals in Santa Barbara.

As you can see on the satellite picture we are getting the tail end of a huge system that has been pounding the northern areas all week.http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=sat_16km&list=IR16.GIF.3.jpg,IR16.GIF.4.jpg,IR16.GIF.5.jpg,IR16.GIF.6.jpg,IR16.GIF.7.jpg,IR16.GIF.8.jpg

Rain will turn to showers, then wind. Friday we should see some scattered showers on and off through the day.

Then on Friday night I expect a pretty big wind event from the northwest that should hit Santa Barbara pretty hard.

Saturday and Sunday look to be dry, but much cooler

Sunday night into Monday another round of rain, and then a third system on Tuesday will bring us more chances of rain. Rain will remain on the light side, but we should get some additional rainfall. We will watch and update, as it gets closer.

Ok that’s it for now. Have a nice day. Rain will be here around 3ish today

12/8/15 Tuesday Update

Lots of actions to the north, take a look at the series of systems hammering the Pacific Northwest —

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=sat_16km&list=IR16.GIF.3.jpg,IR16.GIF.4.jpg,IR16.GIF.5.jpg,IR16.GIF.6.jpg,IR16.GIF.7.jpg,IR16.GIF.8.jpg

The rain will remain to the north for the next 2 days. For us, we’ll see almost summer like weather today and Wednesday.

Wednesday night the low in the Pacific Northwest will sag our way. Thursday morning we will all wake to some dampness in the air. This is really only going to be the marine layer to start the day. Later in the afternoon Thursday will begin to usher in the rain.

Rain will start Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. Expect 1/4 to 3/4 to the northern SB County and Around 1/4 to 1/3 for us.

Friday and Saturday clear up with some winds from the northwest. Then Sunday night another round of rain.

These are not huge rain makers, but we will see rain both Thursday and Sunday night.

Ok enjoy the next 2 great days, more to come as Thursday approaches.

12/7/15 Upcoming Rain

Good Monday morning,

It sure is nice to wake up on a Monday morning at home, instead of the past 2 Monday’s in the hospital. How sweet that is.

There is lots of Action out there, weather wise. It is just all to the north of the forecast area.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/animate.php?root=sat_16km&list=IR16.GIF.3.jpg,IR16.GIF.4.jpg,IR16.GIF.5.jpg,IR16.GIF.6.jpg,IR16.GIF.7.jpg,IR16.GIF.8.jpg

We will see high clouds steaming over us for the next 3 days. No rain until Thursday, just the high clouds and high surf.

We have a nice ridge right now, which is pushing the rain to the north of us. This will breakdown Wednesday, then open the door for rain Thursday into Friday.

I do feel we will see rain for sure with this next system, 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Also the good news is that we might even get into a wet pattern, with another system for the weekend.

Yes, if you look at El Nino history. Mid December is the time it begins. Water Temps are 5 plus degrees higher than normal. This really does draw a picture of the start of an interesting few months. Really, Jan and Feb will be the time of year that the Gulf of Alaska systems will drop much further to the South, creating rain to enhance over southern California.

We will see how this plays out as the month goes forward, for now we will see some much needed rain.

Get ready, I hope we will get into a wet pattern.

Enjoy dry weather for the next 3 days, and then we will see what the rain Gods bring us

Have a great week, see you all out there.
