August 2020

08/31/2020

Good Monday morning and the last day of August!

We will put another month with COVID into the history books. August will end with cooler days, as the first few days of the week will start out with morning fog and low clouds.

2000 feet thick which will make for later clearing today and Tuesday.

https://www.eldoradoweather.com/satellite/goes/goeswest-large/us-pacific-coast-geocolor.php

The first day of September will pretty much be a carbon copy of today.

Wednesday we will start to transition back to warmer weather and by the weekend we will be in a heat wave. With coastal temps 10 to 20 degrees above normal.

Inland and valleys will see triple digits for all. This will arrive just in time for the Labor Day holiday.

It will be another interesting holiday with COVID. Beaches are closed for sun bathing, but open for swimming and walking.

….love Government……well it will make it nice for a beach ride.

Enjoy the fog while it lasts.

Take a look at the photo that Brett took 2 weeks ago. I blew it up into a canvas at Costco and hung it on my deck…. thanks Brett I got one for you also!

Good Friday morning,

It should be a great day today along the Santa Barbara coast. We are starting with clear skies and highs will be around 80 degrees. Just perfect weather……lucky me with all my family in town.

https://www.eldoradoweather.com/satellite/goes/goeswest-large/us-pacific-coast-geocolor.php

Today will be a mixed bag for other areas. The central coast and Santa Ynez will be slightly warmer then yesterday and SB to LA, a few degrees cooler.

All in all a great day:

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?x=191&y=117&site=lox&zmx=&zmy=&map_x=190&map_y=117

Unless you are in Cabo. They are surrounded by 2 tropical storms. It is going to be a wet day there.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/?epac

Now, back to California. Saturday and throughout the weekend will be nice, with slightly cooler temps and some coastal fog.

Overall nice with 75 to 78 coastal and upper 80s in the valleys.

Next week we will have a warming trend starting Tuesday especially in the valleys.

All in all great summer weather. August overall has been hot and sunny, but it is almost history.

We will welcome September and Labor Day next week.

Enjoy the weekend.

Good Thursday morning,

A warm day on tap for us, before a cool down begins for the weekend. Temps will still remain around normal for this time of year.

Today all the Action is in the tropical locations in the Gulf and Pacific.

Laura has landed and I am sure we will see lots of messy photos on the news.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G16&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Also there are 2 tropical storms in the pacific near Cabo that is going to make their weekend weather quite damp.

These 2 storms are looking to combine in the pacific west of Cabo, but it appears only one of them will touch the Baja as a tropical storm.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_ep3.shtml?start#contents

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_ep4.shtml?start#contents

Our weather is looking to be a great day today, if you like the summer warmth. Highs coastal in the mid 80s, valleys lower 90s and Woodland Hills and places like that a toasty 102.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.68038932047783&lat=34.44021400083095

Friday we will begin a slight cool down. You will not feel much of a difference, but a few degrees cooler.

The weekend will bring back some morning marine layer and slightly cooler.

Highs coastal around 80 and upper 80s in the valleys.

Next week starts out the same, but Tuesday we are looking at another warm up.

Have a great day.

Good Wednesday morning,

Today we are waking to fog again, but a nice warm up is in the forecast the next few days.

No real excitement on the west coast, but the Gulf will get hammered today with the next hurricane touching land.

This will be all the news tonight. https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G16&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Wow Laura is a Cat 3 or Cat 4 storm. it is going to be a bad night for them tonight.

Today and Thursday we will see temps rise into the mid 80s coastal, with sundowner winds each of the next 2 nights, keeping us warmer in the evening.

Inland triple digits are expected the next 2 days.

Friday into the weekend we will see a slight cool down bring the temps back to normal with upper 70s low 80s coastal and upper 80s low 90s inland.

Ocean temps continue to be a nice 70 degrees, great surf and beach weather.

Still watching these 2 storms on the west in the pacific in Mexico. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=epac&fdays=5

Have a great day.

Good Monday morning,

After 5 days of tropical weather, we are returning to typical Californians weather for this time of year.

Highs once again will be in the low 80s coastal and low 90s in the valleys.

Fog has also made a return at around 1000 feet thick.

This will create some cooling the next few days along the coast.

The former hurricane is due west and really creating no harm to us along the shore.

https://www.eldoradoweather.com/satellite/goes/goeswest-large/us-pacific-coast-geocolor.php

The only real noticeable change is in the ocean temp. We are slated to have 70 degree ocean temps all week. That will be refreshing and require no wet suit.

The night time hours will turn back to more manageable with lows in the mid 60s over night.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.68972779996695&lat=34.432#.X0PfOshKiUk

It looks like mid week we will get warmer by a few degrees and the weekend slightly cooler. Really there is no big change to our weather.

Quiet week with normal summer time temps.

On the hurricane front. The gulf coast is going to have an active week with 2 tropical storms hitting tonight and Wednesday night.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov

On the west coast 2 other storms are brewing and will turn into hurricanes at the end of the week.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=epac&fdays=5

For next week, we will have to watch the progress and movement on these.

They could cause trouble for parts of Mexico.

Have a great week.

Good Wednesday morning,

Yes, it is easy to report the weather. It will just be another hot day.

More records were broken yesterday. Santa Barbara hit 98 degrees…..

Today will be a carbon copy of Tuesday with the exception of a Eddie that has formed near Catalina.

This is providing them a break from the heat.

The hot sun is even heating the ocean with Santa Barbara at 68 degrees and Hendry’s beach at 66 degrees.

The warmest of the year.

https://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/Hendry-s-Beach-Arroyo-Burro/seatemp

Speaking of the Ocean, if you look well to the South Hurricane Genevieve is going to Brush the Cabo coast starting this afternoon.

The strongest winds are 100 to 120 miles an hour, but the good news is the areas on land will see half of that, since the heart of the storm will stay off Shore.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G16&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

How will this affect our weather, this is still unclear. Surf, will create a South swell likely to start on Sunday. Rain, we are not Sure at this point.

I do have some good new on the heat.

It looks like the central coast will get a break on Thursday with onshore flow allowing the temps to retreat 8 to 10 degrees.

Here at home we will get 3 to 4 degrees cooling, but that’s not a lot. It will be slightly cooler though the weekend, but still 80s and 90s everywhere.

Last night you could see the smoke filled skies to the north from a fire up in Salinas That should not affect us much here, but the central coast is seeing the smoke.

There you have it, another hot day.

If you have the luxury the best spot is on the beach.

Have a great day.

Jack Martin

08/18/2020

Good Tuesday morning,

It is still dark out there and that is a good thing, because today is going to be hotter than Monday.

Yes, if you thought it was hot yesterday, today is going to be hotter. The only good news that I can give you is thank God we don’t live in death Valley.

It was 130 degrees there, the hottest day on earth anywhere in over 90 years.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/death-valley-hits-130-degrees-053931284.html

Today locally, Santa Ynez will be 106 degrees.  That’s just too hot!!!

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-120.11489876545964&lat=34.61490062248761

Additional bad news, Wednesday will be just as hot….As a matter of fact, all week will be around 100 degrees in the valleys. If your lucky it will stay in the upper 90s.

Along the coast is really the only area that will remain reasonable but still hot in my book. Santa Barbara will hit 90 today.

It looks like we will see slight cooling on Thursday, but still quite hot everywhere. I remember a few weeks ago we were talking about the cool summer we are having.

That’s no more.

For the weekend it looks like hurricane Genevieve will bring us at least a South swell. The jury is still out on any chance of moisture here, but it is not looking likely.

If you are in Cabo San Lucas it looks like you will be getting wet. The Hurricane will only brush the coast, but should bring some wind and rain but it will roll up the coast off shore.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_ep2.shtml?start#contents

Ok, your ready for the day. I will need a nap, because I got up way to early today.

65 here and 6:23 am is sun rise

Have a great day,

08/17/2020

Good Monday morning,

I hope everyone survived the heat from the weekend. It was hot out there with Paso Robles hitting a record at 114 yesterday. Today is not going to be any better at 115.

As you can see with the link below, it is going to be hot all week.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.69329833984375&lat=34.42616890436072#.XzqE3y0iefA

Some lighter news is my weather station is all set up at my house, so I can share real time weather from my back yard Daily.

The weekend was quite warm everywhere, with the best relief close to the ocean.

Ocean temps at getting slightly warmer as the ocean is 64 degrees. Typical for this time of year is 61 to 67, this puts us right in the middle.

Today Santa Barbara will see mid 80s coastal and 90s in the foothills.

The valleys will continue to have 100+ temps.

Night time will cool into the mid 60s coastal, but mountain temps will remain warm in the Lower 70s.

Through Wednesday, this really is the story, not a lot of changes.

There is a chance for afternoon and evening thunder storm in the mountains as the heating of the day creates convection in the mountains. Chances still remain pretty low.

The second half of the week will cool us off slightly, but still remain above normal.

Late in the weekend, another tropical storm from Mexico will drift our way. We will have to see how this affects us. Likely some surf for sure for the weekend.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_ep2.shtml?start#contents

Ok have a great week, so cool and drink lots of water.

Jack Martin

08/13/2020

Good Thursday morning,

Subtropical weather is arriving as Elida is bringing us high and mid level clouds. You can see them streaming over us:

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Today there is a 20% chance for showers, then this afternoon a better chance of thunder storms in the mountains.

The heat wave starts today and will last likely through Monday.

Highs are going to be quite warm everywhere, but close to the coast will be the place to be. Most inland areas will see triple digits Friday through at least Sunday.

The coastal areas will see 90s in the foothills and 80s at the beach. True summer weather.

It is looking more and more like a beach weekend, as lots of folks will be flocking to the cooler ocean.

It is interesting to look at the subtropical jet as there are a number of disturbances heading the same path as Elida.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=epac&fdays=5

This might give us an extended period of hotter weather and chance for thunderstorm in the mountains.

My best advise, stay in the shade and get outdoor work done earlier in the day.

See you at the beach this weekend, here is the tide schedule.

Good Wednesday morning,

Are you ready??!! Ready or not, the heat wave will transition today.

Lots of Action out there the next 5 days with subtropical weather coming our way.

It is going to be a mighty hot Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Even Thursday.

https://www.weather.gov/lox

Today will be the last reasonable day, for temps before we feel the heat.

Hurricane Elise is going to influence our weather. She is moving her way up the coast and is going to bring on the tropical weather.

No need to go to Mexico. Mexico is coming here.

This will be felt on Thursday, with temps rising and chances for thunderstorms Thursday evening in the mountains of SB and SLO.

The heat factor will also creep up, but Friday though Sunday are going to be the hottest day.

Downtown LA. Get out of there…..upper 90s Thursday through Sunday.

Going to the lake, change your plans. It will just be to hot. Triple digits the entire time.

Valleys, same idea. Hit the beach……

For us, along the coast. We will see warm, but manageable weather. 90s in the foothills and 80s at the beach.

It will be a beach – pool weekend or you will want to burn that AC.

You will only heat up next month when you see your Electric bill… if you have solar life is good. The Sun pays your AC bill.

(Advertisement – call Kirk At Action Energy 805-896-3776 , For AC call Tony at Beyond Heating and Air 805-966-4321 )

Ok back to the Fun….

Make extra ice cubes, you will need them.

It looks like this might be an extended heat wave as tropical system are lined up and heading north.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=epac&fdays=5

Ok more fun to come on Thursday morning.

Good Monday morning,

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Now it is back to a crazy work week with real estate going Bananas in Santa Barbara – Montecito.

As we start out our work week, we will find Monday and Tuesday to be a repeat of the past week.

Cooler and below normal temps. Fog till noonish. Highs in low 70s coastal and low 80s in the valleys.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

It almost sounds like a broken record skipping and saying the same thing (for those of you who know what a record is 🙂 Right when we we’re getting use to sweat shirts in the morning, this is all going to change starting on Wednesday.

Wednesday we will call transition day.

High pressure moves in from Arizona and sets up over SOCAL. This is going to squash the marine layer and warm us all up .

Thursday and Friday, the mercury is rising and temps will climb above normal.

For the weekend.

All eyes are on the Thermometer, because we are expecting triple digits in the valleys and 80s and 90s in SB.  Even the beaches should be in the 80s.

Way to hot in the valleys, so come to the beach.

Enjoy the last few cooler days. Wednesday on we will rise each day, and by Sunday it will be 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

Have a great week.

Good Thursday morning,

We are on the back side of our work week. The weekend will be here soon.

Our weather has been very uneventful, I guess that is much better than what the East coast has experienced this week.

Talking with Family and friends, it was not a good week for the Shore. Winds were pretty crazy with damage and trees down.

For us, we just continue to have cool June like weather. Today is just another day of foggy and cooler temps.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

As we flow into the weekend, it will remain cool along the coast, highs in the low 70s. In the valleys, highs will get into the low 80s.

Quite cool for this time of year.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.6897277664393&lat=34.442705631145785

Next week we start out cool then we will see how the week progresses.

It looks like a subtropical system in Mexico might work it’s way into our region at the end of next week.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=epac&fdays=5

In the mean time, don’t forget your sweatshirt. Chilly mornings out there.

Enjoy boring weather.

Jack Martin

08/04/2020

Good Tuesday morning,

Today we will start a cooling trend. This will be felt especially inland.

Last night sundowner winds blew, but stayed more towards Gaviota where temps were 80 degrees after sunset.

Goleta and SB had a slight bump, but nothing much.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?x=193&y=120&site=lox&zmx=&zmy=&map_x=193&map_y=120#.Xylpfy0iefA

Today the valleys will feel the biggest changes with temps dropping into the 80s.

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-120.14267451431395&lat=34.5921753397175

Coastal areas will cool a few degrees, but not much change.

Tonight we have one more shot of weak sundowner winds. We will see where they land.

Wednesday should be the coolest day of the week, but there is no excitement in the weather pattern.

Thursday on into the weekend, a very slight warming trend. Temps will remain well cooler then the valleys were last weekend. Coastal, we will not feel any real changes.

Have a good Tuesday.

Jack Martin

8/3/2020

Good Monday morning,

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. It was hot out there if you were in the valleys.

I went up to Santa Ynez yesterday and the heat was on. 96 degrees when I left to come home to 75 here.

The Pacific Ocean is our friend in Santa Barbara.

Today is going to be hot in SB with Northwest winds we will hit 91 degrees today. Everyone else should see temps the same as yesterday, with a degree or 2 less.

This morning we wake to no marine layer. Except in areas to the South toward LA, where a weak Eddie has pulled the marine layer in.

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&band=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Today we will continue with the heat. One more hot day before we get relief.

Highs in the 90s everywhere today.

Tuesday we get a nice break in the weather as marine layer starts to return in areas.

Low pressure moves in and this will cool us off 10 degrees.

The rest of the week looks to be uneventful with just cooler weather. Highs back to the 70s coastal and 80s in the valleys.

As the weekend approaches, we will see a slow warm up, but nothing like what we saw this past weekend.

Enjoy the first work week in August, as we check another month into the history books.

As always, make someone smile 😀

Have a great day!
