8/27/18 New Work Week’s Weather
Good Monday morning,
Consistent weather has made my reports few and far between. I just thought I would check in and let you know I am still alive.
This week’s weather is going to be nice, with cooler week on tap.
We will have fog and low clouds to start our mornings through Wednesday. Thursday and Friday looks to be sunny.
The Labor Day weekend is still a coin flip, because models differ. For us, it looks to be warm, but there are a few Gulf of Alaska systems that are challenging the models.
More to come later in the week. In the meantime, enjoy the fog and nice temps in the upper 70s and low 80s.

Wednesday the 15th of August
Good morning,
Not much change in the forecast. This time of the year, the weather is pretty predictable. Sunny, and warm. Makes typical summer weather.
The only change is little pockets of fog. This will be short lived. Highs today will be in the upper 80s coastal and 90s inland.
Perfect weather for the show at the bowl this evening. Be on time. Frampton starts promptly at 6:30, followed by Steve miller.
As far as the rest of the week and the weekend goes, it is going to warm up.
Valleys topping the 100 degree mark, and coastal in the upper 80s.
Here is what it looks like day by day

Also the ocean water temp is quite warm, 72 degrees here, 78 in San Diego. That’s around 8 degrees warmer than the average for this time of year.
Is this global warming, or El Nino?
Here is a graphic.
https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/sst/contour/californ.cf.gif
21 Celsius is 70 degrees to 24 Celsius 75 degrees…Wow!!!
Have a great day, see you at the bowl. It should be a great 80s reunion night.
Good Tuesday Morning
Tuesday the 14th of August. Another month flying by.
From the weather front, not much to report about. It was a little cooler to start the week, but by the weekend we will heat up again.
The one interesting thing, is the ocean water temp. It seems to keep climbing.
Now at 72 degrees in Santa Barbara.
https://seatemperature.info/santa-barbara-water-temperature.html
As far as the air temps, coastal should stay in the mid 80s most of the week, then for the weekend it will be closer to 90.
Inland just add 5 to 10 degrees. The weekend should break you all back into the 100 degree mark.
Ok, that’s it for today. Enjoy summer.
I saw the kids lining up at the junior high yesterday. It must be back to school time.
Have a great week.
See you at Steve Miller and Peter Frampton on Wednesday night.
It should be a great night for the show.
Good Warm Friday Morning
Here we go with another hot day. Here comes the sun!!!
Coastal was supposed to see some relief from the heat, because of coastal fog.
However, this is not happening because the ocean water temp is so warm.
This is pretty crazy for the Pacific Ocean. Water temp in Santa Monica right now is 78 degrees, here 70 degrees.
Any way you look at it, that’s about as warm as you will ever see it around here.
Everyone needs to beat the heat with a trip to the beach this weekend.
It is also humid out there, tropical storm John is moving north. Well west of the coast, but is affecting us with humidity.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Today look for 90s and 100s everywhere.
Saturday, more of the same, maybe a few degrees less.
Sunday, mid 80s costal and mid 90s in the valleys.
Next week, slight cooling. Still hot with 80s and 90s.
Ok, that brings you up to date, come to the beach.
There will be lots of surfers and folks just wanting to cool off in our warm ocean.
No wet suit needed this weekend.
See you at the beach.
Today’s Weather
Good Thursday morning,
The weekend is fast approaching, and here is our forecast.
Our month long hot weather will continue. We set a record for California with the hottest month on record in July.
Today will be the hottest, with some minimal cooling into the weekend.
Today, valleys should be near the century mark, and coastal areas near 90.
This is with the exception of a few locations, where fog rolled in near Ventura.
Fog is not much of a factor this year, because the ocean water temp is at 70 degrees.
That’s quite warm for us.
https://seatemperature.info/santa-barbara-water-temperature.html
Look at this fact ….Ocean Water temps are 4 to 9 degrees warmer than normal based on our historical data over a period of ten years. The warmest sea in this day in Santa Barbara was 66°F/19°C, and the coldest 61°F/16°C.
Out in the Pacific Ocean sits a few tropical storms.
John will be the closest and Katherine a little further west. These will do nothing more than give us more humidity and for the surfers, they will enjoy some waves.
The air temps will cool a few degrees over the weekend, but still in the mid 80s coastal, and low 90s in the valleys.
Yes, it is summer time. Lots of sun, little fog, and no rain. Except if we get monsoonal showers.
These however will only affect the LA Mountains at this point. Nothing our way.
Speaking of warming ocean temps, El Niño is looking like it will move in. Water temps are already well above normal.
Predictions show ocean temps continuing to rise into the fall month. This means our likely hood of an El Niño winter is favoring the likely side.
Ok, that’s your tease for the day. “Better have a good roof this winter.”
In the meantime, Pearly and I will visit Hendry’s Beach this weekend and feel the ocean water temps.
Enjoy great vacation weather, and it is almost back to school time.
Wow, where did summer go?!!!
Hot Weather Continues
Good Monday morning,
Fiesta is over, and it is time for the hot summer to continue.
High pressure has built in once again with summer heating and Santa Anna winds heating us up once again.
The next few days will bring hot weather, with everyone in the 90s and great places like woodland hill reaching close to 110 degrees.
Hot weather is not the only threat, we will have a Santa Anna wind event the next 2 days.
Winds will blow from the northeast, so Montecito and points south like Ventura will be most affected by this event.
Tuesday will be the hottest day of the week.
Wednesday, we can see some marine layer arriving, but do not expect a lot of cooling.
As far as the hurricane front goes to the south and west, it is getting crazy out there.
There are now 3 named tropical storms out in the Pacific, and one more that should be named in the new few days.
Yes, that is pretty crazy. 4 will be lined up…take a look…
HTTPS://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=epac&fdays=2
Hector is to your far left, can’t really see it. This is going to brush Hawaii’s big island later in the week.
Nature will create a challenge with the volcano, and the hurricane for the big island of Hawaii.
Enjoy another hot week…
Good Friday Morning
It is heating up again out there. Also quite a few tropical depressions and hurricanes are forming in the Mexican coastal waters
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=epac&fdays=5
The interesting facts are. I do not think there has been even 1 named tropical storm on the east coast this year. We have 3 brewing out there right now. 2 of them aimed towards Hawaii. The first towards the end of next week.
This summer has also been one of the hottest summers on record so for in California.
This is all starting to add up to warming ocean temps and a good possibility of a lite to moderate El Niño this rainy season. Water temps are on the rise, and are expected to warm even more over the next few months. If this does come true, we will be expecting greater rainfall this winter.
Where this is still developing. The chances are looking stronger as we approach the fall. I am sure you will hear lots more chatter about this in the upcoming months. It will be very interesting to see what happens.
In the mean time, expect the hot weather to continue.
High pressure has built in over California again. Today will be another warm day, with some sundowner winds the next 2 nights.
This will be felt the most in western Goleta , bringing another round of high fire danger.
Expect temps to remain in the upper 80s coastal though the weekend and inland in the upper 90s .
No relief early next week, with maybe some cooling by midweek.
It is August the 3rd and it has been quite a warm summer so far. Oddly enough the warm weather is typically just getting started. Our warmest months are August, September and October .
So we have 3 more hot months to look forward to.
Ok, that’s it for the day.
Enjoy the weekend , and if you going to Hawaii next week. Keep an eye on
