Jack's Weather Report

4/23/25

By jack martin on Apr 23, 2025 at 04:38 PM

Good Wednesday morning,

Chilly and damp is the main forecast with a few twists. Bottom line it will be cooler today and damp through the weekend with temps 10 to 15 degrees below normal.

This morning you can see the deeper marine layer, bringing dampness to some areas.
https://zoom.earth/

Later today we should see some winds start to come up, especially in Gaviota and north Goleta. Winds in the 45 mile an hour range in Gaviota later today. This will likely clear out the fog, but it will not make desirable outside outing fun.

As we get into Thursday morning the winds will likely allow a clearer morning, but temps well below normal.

Friday low pressure starts to arrive deeming the marine layer and creating drizzle for numerous areas.

Saturday a cut off low approaches and can even bring some light rain and drizzle. The weekend will be much cooler and quite damp.

The good news, next week is looking warmer and sunnier. You just need to get through this week of cooler, and damp weather.

Hang in there, I promise better weather ahead, pack your sweatshirt in the meantime.

Good Monday morning,

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. The weather was just perfect with sun, but mild weather.

This week we will see more onshore flow with plenty of fog along the coast. This will give us cloudy skies and below normal temps all week.

Highs in the 60s along the coast and low 70s in the valleys, all week long.

No rain, maybe some drizzle at times especially towards the end of the week.
You can see the onshore flow and marine layer moving in.

Have a good week, it will be cooler, but nice weather for April

Good Friday morning,

Today we will call it transition day as a low pressure system exits and a ridge moves in for the weekend.

Today we will see more sunshine and a warm up where it will be 3 to 6 degrees warmer the yesterday, but still below normal for this time of year. Highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. You will even see a few puffy clouds over the mountains this afternoon, but the rain threat is over.

Saturday and Easter Sunday we warm up and get back to normal temps for this time of year. Overall a nice weekend with highs in the 70s and sunshine ☀️. It will be perfect for Easter egg hunts and Sunday brunch.

Next week is also looking nice, dry conditions through the week with not much excitement in the weather

It is that time of year, that my granddaughter is participating in a fund raiser for her school on Solvang called a color run. She is now 7 years old and in the first grade. She called me yesterday and said Poppa can you post my fund raiser on your weather report and of course poppa never says no, so here is a link and I hope you can help her raise money for her school.

Good Thursday morning,

Another week and month are racing by. Today, we have a low-pressure system that has been talked about all week.

This has been wobbling around near LA. It will move closer to us and bring a 20% chance of rain, but where it does rain it is more likely over the mountains.

This is a cold system, more January like than April. Rain chances will start up after 11am and go through tonight, Friday morning any chance for rain goes to the East. In reality, you will see nice puffy clouds starting to build up over the mountains with rain very showery over the mountains. Rain will be very light with 1/10 to ¼ of an inch. If we get rain here on the coast it is more likely in the foothills as cloud spill over the hills. Bottom line on shore flow will give us a cloudy day with rain chances over the hills this afternoon. I would not cancel any plans today, just pack a sweatshirt and an umbrella if you will melt with a few drops of rain. Rain chance end Friday morning. There is another system to the northeast and is now to far east to affect us on Friday.

Saturday, we start a warmup and offshore flow. It will be a nice day for the Easter egg hunts, just dress the kids warm in the morning. Easter Sunday more warming 4 to 7 degrees Saturday and Sunday most areas will be in the 70s except for 60s right on the beach. The valleys will be in the upper 70s.

Next week Monday and Tuesday will be the warmest days, followed by 2 days of a little cooling then warm up again. Next week will be more Spring-like and nice Santa Barbara weather. If you are going to Coachella, you are looking at a high of 75 and blowing dust and sand. My suggestion - goggles and long sleeves!

(I personally will pass, but have fun if you are in your 20s, 30s or want to be!!)

Have a great weekend, it will be getting nicer as we reach Saturday and Easter Sunday dust off your Easter hats and clothing.

4/15/25 Tax Day

By jack martin on Apr 16, 2025 at 05:22 PM

Good Tuesday morning,

Of course it being tax day, the weather will be gloomy.

As discussed previously we will see damp and cool weather all week long.
2 low pressure systems will affect our weather through Friday. The first will move closer to us Wednesday and bring back the chance of drizzle, however today we are starting off a little dryer than yesterday.
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=38.4,-120.6,4z/date=2025-04-15,05:40,-7

Yesterday was cold with a high in SB of 59 degrees and damp most of the day. Today will be no different, however the wetness might be less. The marine layer is 1700 feet, so clearing is not likely.

Wednesday the first low pressure system moves closer and we can see some dampness or drizzle again.

Thursday another system approaches with a little better chance for instability as this is a colder system. A matter of fact it will be more January like then April. Snow levels will be 6000 to 8000 feet and quite chilly. Thursday night and Friday there is a 20 to 30% chance on mountain showers spilling into our area. Now don’t get to excited, because if rain does occur it is 1/4 inch or less, but it will be quite chilly.

Saturday the cold air remains, but the cold air will likely take away the marine layer. This will make a chilly start to the day, and those kids looking for Easter eggs will need to dress warm.

Sunday some warming and temps in the 60s to low 70s for Easter Sunday

Enjoy the damp cold week, maybe next week will bring back warmer weather

Good Wednesday morning,

Let’s roll out summer weather. Starting today through Friday we will have just that.

High pressure and off shore winds spells 70s, and mostly 80s with some 90s through Friday. Then we cool off into the 70s and low 80s in the valleys for the weekend.

If you want hot, go to Vegas, Palm Springs and Phoenix where it will be upper 90s to 100.

Next week onshore flow and marine layer with low 70s, but still nice spring weather.

The days are getting longer with sunrise and sunsets later and earlier each day.

Soon I might be going to bed with daylight unless I change my ways. I do love it when daylight starts in the 5am hour.

Enjoy the great summer weather. Those on the East coast are very jealous as they currently have freezing temps.

As summer approaches I look forward to visiting Washington state when it stays daylight well into the 10pm hour. Sumner solstice. Is 10 weeks away….

Enjoy the early summer weather the rest of the week

Good first weekend in April 2025.

Do I have a treat for everyone.

We all survived the winds, cold and showers this week. Now it is time to start enjoying great spring weather for at least the next 7 days👏 .

Last night the cold air aloft built up the clouds over the mountains a spilled a little rain over us producing the spring showers. This is all moving east now and the rest of the country will be feeling this. For us, it will be summer like. Today the warm up begins and calm winds come back, with highs in the upper 60s.

The weekend we are looking at 70s for all and some low 80s in the valleys. Just great weather to Spring the flowers on the hills.
Next week after a slight pause on Monday. We really heat up with 80s and 90s though the rest of the week. Break out the sunblock, because it is going to bare us lots of liquid sunshine. Enjoy the weekend and the final 4.

It is time to dust off the summer clothes as summer arrives for at least the next week.

Good Thursday morning,

It has been a brutal week for the weather with winds, cold and unstable air. The good news is we only have 1 more day of this then we will see the type of weather we love in California. https://zoom.earth/maps/precipitation/#view=35.71,-116.096,6z/date=2025-04-04,01:50,-7/model=icon

As we start out Dina’s Birthday, we will have sunny skies through the noon hour with highs in the 60s. However, after lunch the warming of the day and the unstable cold air with bring a chance for rain over the hills that can spill into the coastal areas. This happened last night just as I arrived home, as I looked over the hills, I saw a light shower arriving from the northwest. This brought us a quick shower over the mountains. It truly defined the name “Spring Showers” we have 1 more afternoon like that, with a higher chance for heavier rain from the 2pm to 6pm hours. Where a thundershower does occur up to ½ inch could occur, but for the most part any rain will be a trace, and only 25% of the areas will see rain. It will make the clouds over the mountains quiet pretty.

Friday, we start a nice warm up with a fantastic weekend for all of us. Highs Saturday in the 70s and Sunday we will see 80s in the valleys.

I am sure all the college students will look forward to this with Deltopia this weekend. IV will be making the news reports. I will be in Santa Ynez enjoying the 80s.

Next week a slight cool down on Monday, then summer arrives on Tuesday through the rest of the week. If summer weather is what you wish for, I have good news, and we will see 80s and 90s Tuesday through the week. The heat and sun will create spring flowers in all the hills making the mountains and valleys very pretty. That’s the update for the day, a nice day, except for showers that afternoon over the hills.

Lastly how about those Dodgers at 8-0 and a walk off homerun last night on Otani bobble head night. If you have a spare 4 minutes you will enjoy this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuiB9bLZPo4

Have a great day, Happy Birthday Dina, and Me!

Good April 1st day,

A new month is starting, and the season of spring has arrived. Here In Santa Barbara area, I think of April and wind in the same sentence.

Very typically this time of year we see low pressure systems stay more to the north, and we see the tail end with wind.

This week is all about the wind. Low pressure is parking over Nevada and will create on and off winds https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=39.4,-97.9,4z

Along will winds there is cool temps with snow levels dropping to 4000 or 5000 feet on Wednesday. Regarding rain there are some chances, but if it does rain, it will be mainly over the mountains. 40% for the Santa Ynez valley today, but quite light. As we get further into the week the next chance of rain shows up Thursday afternoon and this will be more of a south event, with unstable air mass can cause some thunderstorms, we will see how that develops as we get closer. Once we get through Thursday the low moves East and we are in for a nice weekend with 70s and some 80s for the first weekend in April.

Enjoy the cool and windy weather the next few days, know that warmer is coming for the weekend.

Don’t forget April fools’ day is today, who will bring the best practical joke for the day

Good Monday morning,

It is the last day of March and a damp morning to end your month.

We received a nice little rain Sunday that started to clear up later in the afternoon with just great views from Sunstone vineyard (see attached)

We received 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch with the nice spring rain yesterday
This morning just some light showers are left as the second wave of rain
arrives, this will be very light with just some showers.

Skies will clear later today, and wind will ramp up. Matter-of-fact wind
will be a part of the forecast most of this week with north and northwest winds, but not a lot of rain
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G17§or=wus&ban
d=GEOCOLOR&length=12

Tuesday low pressure wobbles into Nevada and it will just give us winds,
and cooler temps. The rain word is really not likely at all this week.
It does look like we will see some rain on North slopes and even some snow, but here in SB no rain is in the forecast.

As we get into the week it looks like a slight chance for rain, but the once big storm system has dwindled to nothing.

As we get closer to the weekend, we are looking at warmer weather, with
nice spring temps in the 70s.

Have a great week, and enjoy spring and April weather
