April 2022

4/21/22

Good Thursday morning,

Rain is on the way.

The low-pressure system to the north has a long counterclockwise rotation from Canada to the bay areas.
https://zoom.earth/#view=39,-116.9,5.05z/date=2022-04-21,04:50,-7

This will begin to sag south and rain will occur for all starting later in the afternoon for areas north of point conception.

Tonight in areas south of point conception (yes, that’s us). The models have even bumped up the rain totals a bit with 1/3 to 2/3 on the central coast and 1/4 to 1/3 for our area. South facing mountains in SB around 1/2 an inch, and on the central coast up to 1 1/4 of an inch. This is all good news because we will take what we can in late April.

Friday the system clears out and the winds return. Another round of sundowner winds for Santa Barbara Friday night.

Looking into the weekend, high pressure and offshore flow begin and a big warm-up will start Sunday into next week.

80s and some 90s are likely Sunday and Monday. We might even break some records on Monday.

Tuesday starts a cooling trend with some low clouds and fog as onshore flow builds back in.

Dry weather through next week and likely through the next 4 months until the monsoonal season starts.

Enjoy the rain, it will likely be a while before we see it again

Good Wednesday morning,

The big news of the day is the rain will happen.

Long-range models are always hard this time of year, but short-range models are in and they all agree we will see spring showers with rain Thursday afternoon into Friday morning.

This is thanks to a rainy Pacific Northwest and low pressure sagging into California.

You can see the storm system spinning and sagging towards us  https://zoom.earth/

What does this all mean for us? Other than we will have spring rain …

Today onshore flow will increase with cooler weather.

Thursday the marine layer deepens, and rain will work its way into the central coast.

Rain will start Thursday afternoon in SLO and work its way south arriving in our areas later Thursday night.

How much rain? SLO 1/4-to-1/2-inch, Santa Barbara 1/10 to 1/4 of an inch.

Friday it goes away, and we are in for more wind. Both Friday night and Saturday more sundowner winds for SB.

Sunday, we start a big warm-up into next week. Temps will be on the rise Sunday into mid-week with the 80s and some 90s in LA.

Love spring, wind, rain, and heatwave. Nothing in the middle for California.

Turn off the sprinklers for 2 days this is likely the last rain for awhile.

4/5/22

Good Tuesday morning,

It was a windy night for those in Montecito. The highest wind gust was 71 miles an hour, but most of the area saw gusts in the 50s. The winds will also lead to very hot temps today with highs in the mid to upper 80s in Montecito.

Take a look you will need to blink to believe your eyes

Winds will shift to the south today and rock Mark’s home and everyone’s from Ventura to Catalina Island.

They are in for 24 to 36 hours of wind.

This will also increase the Mercury for all. Highs will go to the 80s and 90s.

Then some valley locations will even see some low 100 reading Thursday and Friday.

Back in our neck of the woods, it will remain in the upper 80s and low 90s through Friday.

The wind event for us is pretty much over, Montecito might still see some wind, but the event has moved south.

As a classic Santa Ana event is the story.

Saturday, we cool some still above normal.

Sunday and into early next week, onshore flow returns, and cooler temps come back.

This is thanks to a cut-off low that will draw the marine layer back and provide a slight chance for rain in SLO and north. We will see fog and cooler weather.

The bottom line is the heatwave is on ….. hot weather for the next 4 days with record-breaking heat chances starting Wednesday through Friday

Stay cool and enjoy the outdoors
