4/29/19 Rain Forecast
Look at that, we had .15 inch of rain overnight in Santa Barbara. My rain clock woke me up at midnight to hear and see the rain dropping. That was a sight we have not seen in awhile.
https://www.cnrfc.noaa.gov/images/countyPrecipMaps/santabarbara_24HRprecip.png
The cut off low is spinning right over us right now. Rain is falling in Santa Maria and north. I expect Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez to see more rain shortly. Rain for us should end by noon. Ventura to LA will see rain move in this morning and last into the afternoon. This system is very showery in nature, so most areas will see totals vary. 1/10 to 1/3 is expected. Santa Barbara is already half way there.
Look at that rotation from the East. You do not see that too often:
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
Remember in yesterday forecast when I said, “if this low drifted over us, the rain chance were better,” well that just what happened. The past 3 days have been very damp, but today is really wet. Nice round of spring showers. I guess no roofs will be torn off today 😬.
Rain should clear out this afternoon and leave us with fog. Tuesday morning will be another foggy day.
Tuesday night looks like northwest winds will blow in my back yard. This might clear out some of the fog here at least, but other areas will see it continue.
Wednesday fog coastal, but inland will start to clear out earlier.
Thursday and Friday, a light off shore event. This will allow inland areas to warm up, with temps above normal. Coastal areas will likely still see some fog, and temps will be a few degrees below normal. Highs in the upper 60s.
Saturday will bring more of the same, then Sunday afternoon another low pressure system rolls in and gives us another chance of rain.
I guess the rainy season is not over quite yet.
Enjoy the rain, you don’t have a choice ….
Have a good week, you are prepared weather wise.
Lake Cachuma
I was driving by this morning (4/28/19) and had to stop and see it for myself. Looks great to see it so full.
4/28/2019
Gloomy morning out there.
Fog, drizzle and cool temps are the story for the day, and the week ahead.
The story for the next 2 days is going to be a cut-off low spinning off shore.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html
This will bring in a chance of light rain this afternoon and tonight for mainly the southern 2/3 of the forecast area.
This low pressure system is just spinning off shore and will begin to move onshore this afternoon. Depending on the north or south track, we could see some light rain tonight and Monday morning.
Showers are also possible in the mountains.
Tuesday the low will pass to the East, but May Gray or June Gloom will remain all week. Cooler days with temps below normal will last all week.
Thursday and Friday, a slight warm up but the weekend brings in another low pressure system with rain possible again next weekend.
Bottom line for the next week, we will have cooler temps, highs in the 60s with fog and minimal clearing during the day.
On another note:
I would like to thank everyone that contributed to my grandson’s memorial fund. We have raised $17,000.00 for the boys and Girls club.
You all are rock stars for helping the Kids of the boys and Girls clubs. Today would have been Rigley’s first birthday. It makes me so happy that we have raised so much money to help other kids.
If you would like to help, here is the details and info:

Thanks to all and have a great week.
4/26/19
Good Friday morning,
It is like pea soup out there. Very damp this morning with the fog layer extending into the valleys today.
Today will be a cooler day, with temps a few degrees cooler than yesterday. Fog will clear slowly today, with valleys clearing mid day.
For Santa Barbara, we will likely see fog well into the afternoon. We will also see the clouds of the mountains with a slight chance of thunder storms.
Likely not, but it will pretty the skies with the puffy white clouds after the fog breaks.
Saturday and Sunday more fog. Damp morning and cooler temps.
Sunday night into Monday, a cut off low moves over us. They are still advertising a slight chance of rain, really it looks like more of a chance of drizzle than rain.
Next week, looking like May Gray is going to be the main story. Fog during the day with clearing in the afternoon. Temps will remain cool, with highs in the 60s.
Wednesday and Thursday a little warm up.
Have a great weekend.
4/25/19 Thursday Forecast Update
Good Thursday morning,
One more warm day inland with cooling along the coast. Today a weak low pressure system will affect the area starting this afternoon.
For us, the most we will see are the pretty puffy colds building over the mountains. There is a slight chance of rain over the Ventura mountains.
Friday and Saturday really begin to cool off. Fog should get to 2500 ft and drift into the valleys.
It is looking to be a cooler weekend with low clouds and fog.
Sunday should start off with fog. There is even a chance of drizzle in the morning.
Sunday afternoon another low pressure system moves in.
Models are even trending towards a little rain with this one, Sunday night into Monday. We will see how the days affect the models.
Monday and Tuesday look to be on the cool side with highs only reaching the 60s.
Here we are bouncing back and forth between warm and cooler temps.
Have a great day, make someone smile.
4/24/19 Weather
Good Wednesday morning,
Tuesday sure was a great day. We hit 83 in Santa Barbara. Paso robles hit 90.
Not much excitement to talk about this time of the year, and the next 5 days are exactly that.
The excitement comes in fog verses sunshine. Hot verses cooler, But here we go.
Today. On shore flow is back to coastal areas. I can see the mist in the air through my security cameras.
Inland valleys will still remain above normal temps, coastal areas will drop into the upper 70s.
Still nice overall.
Thursday, low pressure drops in. This will do nothing more than give us greater morning dampness and fog along the coast.
Cooling will continue. Thursday afternoon there could be a few showers and puffy white clouds over the mountains.
Friday will be even cooler with low clouds and fog making it all the way to the valleys. Cooling another few degrees.
Saturday is pretty much a repeat of Friday. Cooling a few more degrees to make temps dip down into the low 70s.
Sunday another low drops into the area. This will hold off into late afternoon.
There will even be a slight chance of rain of a whopping 1/10 of a inch over night.
Ok that’s the forecast, hope I did not put you to 😴sleep.
I will have to think of more excitement to report.
Have a great Wednesday.
Here is how it looks from the sky:

4/23/19 Forecast
Good Tuesday morning,
Today is the day, if you did not get enough of the warm and sunshine over the weekend, you will want to take the day off.
You will not be disappointed.
Off shore flow will bring temps up 10 Degrees to the mid 80s for today.
If you can’t take the day off, then be sure to get home early and enjoy a great great spring day.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Wednesday will also be nice, but onshore flow will return. It will cool off along the coast, with some fog possible.
Inland valleys will remain very nice and warm.
Thursday and Friday, there is really not a lot of excitement. Just typical weather for this time of year.
Some coastal fog, then clearing to sunshine.
Saturday should be about the same, but low pressure approaches Saturday night.
Sunday there is a slight chance of rain. Just a smidgen at this point. More so, you will see some puffy white clouds over the mountains.
Monday, low clears out and we will likely see some wind for the day.
Ok , you might want to break out the shorts for the day….It is going to be shorts weather.
Enjoy 😉
Monday 4/22/19
Good Monday morning,
If you liked the weather on Easter Sunday, you are really going to enjoy the next 3 days.
I went to brunch at the boathouse. Wow was it nice there. They were packed with folks all dressed up in Easter egg colors, and the beach was packed too, like it was a summer day.
The only down side to the next 3 days is most of us need to go to work.
High pressure and a mild Santa Ana wind event is going to warm us up each day.
Today we should see temps around 80 degrees with lots of sunshine.
Right now the only fog is in the Santa Ynez area, but that will clear quickly.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/wv-l.jpg
Tuesday, a mild Santa Ana event warms us up more. We will reach the upper 80s with some 90s in areas.
Wednesday, we will see more of the same, maybe backing off a few degrees.
Thursday and Friday, looks like on shore flow returns with some fog and cooler temps.
The weekend is also looking to be seasonable, and nice spring weather through the week.
I want to say hello to all my new friends that read the Montecito Journal.
My name came up in Jim’s editor article and requests to join the group keep rolling in.
Thanks, Jim for the kind words and welcome to all.
I try to have fun with the weather reports to entertain myself and hopefully you also.
I am not a journalist, so you will find words spelled wrong at times, but I promise to make you laugh sometimes.
Have a great day, and you will need sun screen this week.
4/22/19 Easter Sunday Forecast
Good Sunday morning and Happy Easter,
I guess spoke to soon yesterday when I said the drizzle missed Us. Shortly after I sent out the report, there it was.
I Hope the Easter egg hunters did not get too wet on Saturday.
From the sky: https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Today you will not be disappointed.
The winds from the north last night blew the fog away, and we are waking to blue skies and soon to be sunshine.
It will be a great Easter Sunday outdoors.
Today we will even warm up to normal temps for this time of year. Highs will be in the low 70s.
Monday high pressure really starts to build in. This is going to warm us up each day. Expect upper 70s Monday.
Tuesday, we really warm up. A mild Santa Ana event will bring temps into the 80s. This weather continues into Wednesday, with warm temps.
Thursday, we transition back to onshore flow. This will cool us off slightly along the coast, but inland areas will stay warm.
Friday and into the weekend, looks to remain dry with maybe some coastal marine layer.
All in all, dry weather through next week.
Happy Easter, and enjoy a great week to come.
4/20/19
Good Saturday morning,
Looks like Santa Barbara escaped the drizzle this morning. That’s great news for any kids going to the Easter egg hunt at Elings Park.
However, it is chilly out there so dress them warm. It starts at 9am. If that’s too early for you, there is another one at La Cumbre mall at 10 am.
Today will remain on the cooler side. Fog and low clouds will be around till noon, then the sun will prevail and warm us up.
Tonight looks like the wind will come up. We are expecting a north sundowner wind.
Sunday, the wind should blow any fog away. We should see sunshine in Santa Barbara to start the day.
It will be cooler, but a nice Easter Sunday.
Monday, the warm up begins. Looks like each day will warm up and Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the mid 80s.
Thursday and Friday, a little cool down but still nice dry weather all of next week.
Have a great Easter.
4/18/19
Good Thursday morning,
Not much change in the forecast, so let’s start with something fun.
Lake Cachuma has now hit 80%. Even without the threat of rain, it keeps climbing a little each day.
https://www.countyofsb.org/uploadedFiles/pwd/Content/Water/Documents/rainfallreport.pdf
Nacimiento is at 86%.
Weather, today will be sunny and warm, with weak off shore winds. Highs in the upper 70s.
Another nice night tonight, but off shore winds turn to a sea breeze. This will cool us down, and bring in a little marine layer.
Saturday a weak low passes to the east. This will do nothing more than bring us a damp morning and possibly some drizzle.
Sunday high pressure builds back in and we warm up gradually.
Monday more of the same.
Tuesday and Wednesday, a big warm up with temps in the upper 80s and some low 90s.
That’s a quickie for the day.
Enjoy.
4/17/19
Good Wednesday morning,
Tuesday brought us some light showers early, and wind in the afternoon and last night. Now your going to like the next 3 days.
High pressure is building in, and temps are going to jump today through Friday. Expect 70s and 80s the next 3 days.
Friday night into Saturday morning, a low pressure system drops over us where rain is not really going to be a factor.
You will feel a major shift with on shore flow, 10 to 15 degrees cooler and some drizzle Saturday morning.
The Easter egg hunt might be damp out there.
Sunday (Easter Sunday), high pressure builds back in and so do the temps. Looks like we should climb back into the upper 70s.
Sunny and warm weather through tuesday of next week.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Have a great day!
4/16/19
Good Tuesday morning,
There is a few weak showers rolling through in some areas.
As the morning moves forward, any chance of rain will be limited to the mountains. After the low passes through, the wind will be the factor.
Expect the winds to come up in Santa Barbara this afternoon and evening. Winds will be from the northwest likely 20 to 30 miles an hour.
Wednesday through Friday, we will warm up and be quite nice.
Friday, another inside slider rolls down the coast. This will be just like today’s system. Looks like Saturday we could see some drizzle locally.
Any rain looks to stay to the north at this point.
Sunday and Monday, we are looking for another warm up.
Have a great Day.
4/15/2019
Good Monday morning,
Hope everyone had a great weekend. No doubt the weather did not disappoint us.
Today is April the 15th, the day I have to give the government more money….Uggs.
Weather wise it will start out foggy and damp in areas. It will clear to be a nice, but cooler day.
Tonight, low pressure approaches and brings everyone a chance of some light rain.
This system is typical for any spring time storm, and will not give us more then 1/10 of an inch.
Rain chances are tonight and into Tuesday morning:
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
The system moves through Tuesday leaving a chance of showers, mainly over LA mountains.
Wednesday through Friday looks to be uneventful with a slight warm up.
The weekend looks like we might have another weak low pressure system coming through.
Models are beginning to hint the possibility of some rain. We will see what shakes out of this.
Have a good week ….
4/12/19 Weather
Good windy Friday morning,
This work week started with wind and will end with it. The good news is nice weather will prevail for most of the weekend.
Today the winds will start to tail off. Winds will diminish later this morning.
This afternoon, northwest winds change to northeast winds. Ventura south will take over the winds.
Saturday, just a perfect windless day in Santa Barbara. Warm and sunny as high pressure and off shore winds bring a great day.
Sunday the off shore event turns onshore. Still a nice day, but temps drop off a few degrees.
Monday and Tuesday, a weak low pressure system drops over us. No rain, maybe some coastal fog.
Tuesday through Thursday high pressure and off shore flow comes back. Nice warmer weather on tap.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Enjoy a great weekend!
4/11/19
This week has been all about the wind. This trend will continue through Friday, then we will have a great weekend.
Today, the winds will actually calm for the day, but they will be back tonight with another sundowner event on tap.
Tonight and Friday morning, an inside slider will drop from the north.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
This will really do nothing more than bring the heavier winds back again.
My pool has really taken a beating this week. Marcos is going to hate cleaning my pool on Friday.
Speaking of Friday.
We will start out with some morning winds, then high pressure build in and warms us up nicely for the weekend.
Saturday, chambers of commerce day. Great weather… get out there and enjoy the upper 70s and low 80s.
Sunday will be nice also, but temps will back off to the mid 70s.
Monday April 15th. The day I hate…..tax day….
Sometime this weekend I will have to drain my bank account and give to to the government 😢.
Next weeks weather is looking good.
Looks like all week we will see dry weather, with another warm up on Wednesday.
Have a great day!
4/10/19
Good Wednesday morning,
It has been a windy week so far, with more to come.
It does appear the worst is finally over for us at least. It will remain windy in the foothills and mountains today.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Today will be windy, but winds will slow to 10 to 20 mile gusts at a time along the coastal areas. The hills will still remain windy.
Thursday, the winds drop off everywhere to become just breezy. A nice day overall.
Thursday night onto Friday morning, a low pressure system drops in.
This could give a few mountain showers, but should not affect us. Just a little wind in areas.
Friday of course some wind as this next system brings in some colder air.
Saturday and Sunday looks to be quite nice with warm off shore flow.
It will be a nice treat for all the hard work we put in during the week.
Next week will start off dry Monday and Tuesday.
Have a great day!
4/9/19 Windy Tuesday
Good Tuesday morning,
What a day, warm winds heated the temps to 91 degrees near San Marcas Pass.
Wow those winds last night were crazy all night. Yesterday at 5 pm I was struggling not to blow off a roof in San Antonio creek area.
Gusts last night had to be in excess of 60 miles an hour.
Today wind with temps returning to normal in the 70s, but winds will remain 20 to 30 today. Then tonight look out again.
Tonight low pressure passes through and cold air behind make for another extremely windy night.
Expect wind gusts 40 to 50 miles an hour coastal and 60 to 70 in the foothills.
Wednesday more wind, but it will begin to back off.
Thursday will be calm.
Friday another inside slider passes through. This will create rain in a few locations, but wind for us.
The weekend is looking like a nice warm up.
All in all, this is typical spring weather. Storm systems stay more northerly and we just get the wind.
Good thing Swanie is still hibernating for the winter, because she would have flown out of the coop.
Ok sunrise is nearing. It is time to go pick up all my patio furniture out of the pool.
4/8/2019 Week’s Weather
Good Monday morning,
Time for a new work week. Spring weather is prevailing once again.
This week will be no different. We will see the tail end of a few systems which will create wind and a slight chance of rain, mainly over the mountains.
Today will be warm and sunny with some wind from the east. Typical Santa Ana event.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Tonight a weak system drops south. This will cool us off.
Tuesday the weak system can create some showers, mainly over the mountains.
The main event will be the wind. Northwest winds will blow pretty good Tuesday afternoon through mid day Wednesday.
Thursday winds will calm, and it should be a nice day overall.
Thursday night and Friday, another system drops down. The model are not clear on this one at this point. Last week they were showing a good spring storm. Now there is just doubt between the models. One shows wind, the other rain. We will wait and see how it sorts out.
The weekend is looking sunny and warm.
Enjoy the work week, it is going to be a warm one today in the 80s for most.
4/5/19 Weekend Weather
Good Friday morning,
The first weekend in April will bring us typical spring weather. Then a nice warm up Sunday and Monday.
If you look at the satellite picture, it looks like rain would be possible. https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
But, It is that time of year. where low pressure systems pack less impact to our area. The past few systems is a perfect example of this.
Todays system will follow the same path. Today rain will fall in the central coast, but it will struggle to get around point conception.
Any rain that does will be on the light side, meaning 1/10 of an inch Santa Barbara and south. The central coast could see ¼ to 1/3 in northern areas.
Saturday another weak impulse comes in, this should do nothing more then give us cloudy skies and a cooler day.
Sunday a nice warm up begins. Temps will climb into the mid 70s.
Monday will be the warmest day of the period. Some 80s are likely.
Monday night into Tuesday another low arrives, weak once again. Will do nothing more then cool us down.
Thursday the same result, with another weak system that possible could bring some showers. Although this is still to far out to think about seriously.
To cap it off, no excitement with the weather. Typical spring weather between weaker systems.
Enjoy your weekend
4/4/19 Spring Showers
Good Thursday morning,
There are 2 weak systems passing through today and Friday.
This morning is damp with a little drizzle. A little rain is coming into northern areas (central coast) in a few hours.
if we get any rain here, it will not be until the afternoon, then 1/10 of an inch is what will drop from the sky.
Friday the second system rolls in. This should dip a little further south. We could see 1/10 of an inch from that one. Also in the afternoon.
The weekend we will have a little warm up, but not as hot as once reported.
Here is the sky view:
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
4/03/19
Good morning,
Happy birthday Dina. For your 40th, there will be a weak ridge over us.
Nice day, but lots of high and mid level clouds.
Thursday the first of 2 lows starts to move in. Looks like we could have some dampness each morning with some drizzle is possible. Even a slight chance of rain, but mostly to the north.
Friday more of the same, as the second low arrives.
This one gives us a better chance of rain in the afternoon, however most should remain in the central coast.
Possibly a 1/10 for us, and 1/4 in SLO.
Saturday transition day, with high pressure building in on Sunday. Looks like an 8 to 10 degree warm up on Sunday and Monday.
Next week is looking dry, but if you look into the 10 day crystal ball they are hinting of rain next weekend.
Way too far away at this point.
Enjoy the spring like weather.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
4/02/19
Good Tuesday morning,
Monday must have been lonely without my report. I felt the same way after a fun weekend in Vegas.
Onto better things.
Today, a very weak system will bring temps down 10 to 12 degrees from Monday.
As far as rain goes, maybe some light drizzle along the foothills. It will remain cooler and any rain should stay north of point conception.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
Wednesday and Thursday will remain cooler and dry. Looks like the first Wednesday in a while with no rain.
Thursday night, another weaker system rolls in. This should also keep rain to the north.
Friday is the best chance for rain. The central coast should see rain start in the morning. Then move south towards us in the afternoon.
This is also a weaker system, but at this point should hold together and give us a little rain.
Transition day Saturday, then Sunday and Monday is looking to be very warm with a Santa Ana event.
Enjoy the cooler weather…. it was 87 in LA yesterday when I was driving back from Burbank …
