12/30/25-Weather Update

Wow,

Just a crazy forecast, we seem to be getting all the rain coming from the north and west. Now it will come from the south. Additionally, we are currently experiencing a Santa Ana wind event, which is an offshore phenomenon that typically blows everything out to sea. The worst is that we are coming off a brutal storm with the heavy rains and crazy winds.

I have been working on wind-related calls along the beach areas. There has been damage due to strong blowing rains in all areas, caused by the southeast winds from the beaches to the mountains.  Christmas was short with no time off, due to the rain and crazy call volumes.

The forecast did show we would be dry through New Year’s Eve Day, but no more ….. Here is the latest ….

There is a storm system to the south that will drift up out of Mexico and start to affect our weather today. Everyone will see high clouds and possibly a few sprinkles. The interesting part of this is that we are in the middle of an offshore event. Typically, the air is so dry that rain evaporates before falling.

It does look like we will see a dry day with no rain until overnight. The first system is coming from the south, and it is a monster in size https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/. This system will affect us from Wednesday early in the morning through Thursday, New Year’s Day, and possibly through Friday.

The heavy rain will come on New Year’s Eve night through the morning.  There is a 100% chance of rain on New Year’s Day.

The last time Pasadena had rain on New Year’s Day was 2006 (20 years ago ). The parade and game will be a mess. Those from Alabama and Indiana will not be very happy with our weather this year. The first system will end on Friday.

Then Saturday, we turn our eyes to the North as a system moves down out of the Pacific Northwest and starts to affect the weather on Saturday, all the way through Monday. This will be a colder system with snow levels a bit lower at 5,000 to 6,000 feet.

It looks like we will have another 5-day rain event. This event will not be as windy or as heavy as the Christmas week, but the lakes – reservoirs are full and the ground saturated. It is going to bring us lots more rain. I can’t even add up all the totals for the next 5 days, but it will be inches. But 1 to 3 inches coastal and 3 to 5 inches in the mountains. Then there is Sunday’s system…. https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/ from the north …

Happy New Year, 2025 is going out with a bang, and 2026 is doing the same with more rain!

Happy Birthday to my daughter Courtney, sorry you have to work on your birthday 🙂
